My school is looking for mural ideas?
Be as specific to your school as you can. Maybe incorporate your school mascot or a nearby landmark. If you're truly inartistic, you can put up inspirational quotes in fun colors or the musical notation for your school song. See if the artistic students have artwork you can use to base yours on and give them the credit. I took a drawing of the school mascot done by a recent graduate and used a photocopier to enlarge it and made it into a stencil to use on the podium for graduation. It turned out beautifully. When I was in high school, someone did a silhouette of all of us standing in the lunch line and painted each person a different color. My latest idea, which I haven't been able to do for health reasons, is to paint a big fish with wishes for the kids on its scales in symbolic, almost clip art form. Keep your eyes open when you visit other schools, not to copy but to be inspired and to see how they solve the practical problems of creating the artwork. You can do lots of things with virtually no talent at all.

How long does it take to paint a 6 ft by 8 ft school mural?

Then decide how ambitious the mural will be.Assembling the equipment and materials is next. 6 x 8 feet isn’t a big mural, it’s actually a very manageable size, so I’d say hours for the one below or days for something more detailed or realistic, but plan well and allow some flexibility.A simple example is that I took five days in business hours to paint the walls of a 15 by 15 feet room in a shop to look like old sandstone, floor to ceiling, two doorways and customers coming and going. But that was without stencils, moving furniture to get around and behind things and pretty intense paint effects.Six by eight feet is more like a regular painting area which is nice, and depends on how many features are contained in it. What steps do i take to painting a brick wall mural?
Hi-I am a 30 yr mural artist and have painted school ball walls (as we call them) tons of times. If its primed-great! Saves you a bunch of time but if the kids have played ball against it or its been in the elements at all-get the janitor to high pressure hose it down. Then, and I'll get to types, when you get your paint (use Home depot or Lowes etc) find what is called Liquid Sandpaper-its clear and you can use a sponge (like to wash your car) to apply it- or wipe it down. (7.00)What it does is cause a chemical adhesion between the paint/primer and what you are painting on-important because it will help it "stick" even though there might be dirt or grease even after you clean the wall. Those big rolls of brown paper as drops are great too-use duct tape to stick it to the blacktop-other tape doesn't work. Use exterior semi-gloss or satin paint. This is due to the fact that flat is usually limited to less color choice (think body of a house verses trim) in Trim paint or semi-however you think of it-you can just about get any color. Valspar and Behr are great,Walmarts paint is actually Valspar so you can get that too. Get qts for most-(7-13.00 ea) and maybe a gallon for background main color. Walmart also has in their crafters section, a great 5.99 bag of misc brushes I like to grab and in their paint section-those throw away ones work fine. Rough walls wear your brushes so its ok to go cheap. Wash them in water first to get out any loose bristles. Use ziplocks to carry back and forth to give them a final wash at home after each day. You can also use the crafters exterior tiny (1-3 oz) paints they have out. They are cheap and work great. Not just acrylics-but acrylic paint for exterior use. Walmart,JoAnns,Micheals.
