US, Canada, UK, Australia dominate top 50 & top 100 rankings. It's the caliber & ranking of university where you are accepted & graduate - with what GPA, etc. - which matters most. US, for example, has over 3000 universities, and going to an unknown & low-rated university does you no good. Choose a school which is highly rated, AND highly regarded by employers in your country or you're going home with a rather useless degree. The field is becoming very competitive for jobs, and you must go to an excellent school, and do very well to have much chance of a job anymore. These are not the Y2K years 2 decades ago when there were urgent needs for people. Now employers have plenty of applicants to choose from.
Does software piracy affect the economy of a country? How?
Software piracy in the narrow sense, doesn't affect the economy of a country much. But there are some indirect effects which will lead to cause little trouble in the economy. Of course, after all it depends upon which sector of society will be the great contributor of the national income.In the countries like India, South east Asia, where Agriculture is the largest share in the market, software piracy is no more take importance.But as per the developed countries, like US, income from the software will be the greater importance.Hence piracy of a software product will harm the growth of the respective authorised company at every level of market.You might be get shocked if you hear that the Software Piracy accounts 57% of the world's software market.It means more than half of world's computers run on unauthorised softwares.Hence, automatically, it harm the income of software companies. Then it leads to less involvement of each company in the development of nation in the form of infrastructure, investment etc.This will not allowed to increase the national income.If everyone buy each product legally from the manufacturers, it will indirectly influences the economy of the country.[edit if any grammer mistakes]

The answer lies in your question itself, you are a software engineer so most of the time is not yours. Whatever little time you have spend it by investing in yourself.Consider yourself a knight and the area in which you want to be an expert , a fort. You can build that fort brick by brick (read by adding skills ). Every fort has a solid foundation, the core technologies of your interest area will form that foundation. When you want to raise the walls of your fort learn the related skills that complete the ecosystem of your core skill. More you go deep in to the related technologies higher will your walls be but beware O' knight ... walls can only stand on a very strong foundation so never make a mistake of raising walls first. In my opinion that is the most basic mistake all knights err.. sorry software engineers do, they get so overwhelmed with the height of other knight's forts that they ignore the importance of a solid foundation. Never commit that mistake.Like other Knights you need a covert weapon who will take care of all your not so high profile but important stuff and that covert weapon is MS PowerPoint and MS Excel. As these are not the things in which a great knight in making ,such as you, can take pride but these are the tools that you need because the king of your country likes to talk with you via PowerPoint so learn it as they adds value to your armory and who knows some Knights can become Kings !Also it is very important to learn from another Knights ,who knows what cool trick they can share that will save you in a rainy day.Visit your country side once in a while as all great Knights needs to know their country and landscapes. Keep track of the latest armors and weapons that are coming up in your country to maintain your edge. Take ample rest and Have Fun while doing all of this as it is a never ending enterprise !
