Can you press charges against someone if you don't know their name?

Let's say someone commits a crime against you, and then legally changes their name. Can you still press charges against them even if you don't know their new name?

I may not have been clear enough. Let me explain.
Joe Green punches Some Guy.
Joe Green later changes his name to Joe Johnson.
Some Guy goes to the police and files assault charges against Joe Green, unaware that this is no longer his name.

Will Joe Johnson still be found?

Can I press charges on a girl if she hits me?

Yes. But you can take the fight, if you want, somewhere else so no one sees it, but also, i need to tell you one thing... If you want to get her back using physical abuse (LISTEN), she has to at least swing a punch at you so that you can fight back and call it self-defence. For example, if she threw a punch at you and hit you ( or even missed), you can punch her until she falls to the ground. This is self-defence. After she has hit the ground, you can't touch her, this is the rule in self defence, if you touch her, the self defence law is finished!

Can my employer press charges for theft?

If your employer actually has evidence of you doing what you said, he can make a complaint to the Police. They will charge you.it is called larceny as a servant. If is regarded very seriously by society, particularly if you are in a position of trust. It is not uncommon for a Magistrate or a Judge to pass a full-time sentence of imprisonment in respect of this type of larceny [stealing]. I doubt you would be locked up for $900, but it is stI'll regarded serioulsy. The court will also make an order that you reimburse the employer.there are other social ramifications because even in 2017 trust is so important. You will have difficulty obtaining employment; no one likes the idea of working with a ‘theif’….and it’s not discrimination.so, if you have the opportunity to pay and avoid all of these problems, for $900, take it. You will never get a better offer.

If someone is assaulted and the victim does not press charges, can the assaulter still get into legal trouble?

Others have written good answers and some of those others are lawyers or police officers ... Me? I'm neither, but I think I have a little to add that may help clarify things (but not really add a lot new).In a criminal case, the case reads e.g. New York vs. Joe Smith.  In a civil case, it would be Jane Doe vs. Joe Smith. In a criminal case, the prosecution is done by some combination of police officers, other investigators, and the city, state or federal authorities.  The police are paid by the "people".  If it goes to trial, the attorneys for the prosecution are also paid by the people. Several people raised the fact that, in a murder case, the victim can't press charges. True.  But hardly unique! This also happens in many drug cases, prostitution cases and child/spousal abuse cases. However, it wasn't always so and it isn't so everywhere.  All the above is centered on the USA (although I believe many other countries are similar). Some states have, however, not even tried to prosecute criminals and others make only minor efforts to do so.  This failure may be due to the actual law or it may be due to lack of resources or it may be due to corruption. When this is the case, people take the law into their own hands.  Such places are always very violent.  E.g. the "wild west". I'd be interested to hear about how criminal cases work in other countries.

Can a minor press charges against their parents for abuse if there are no visibal marks?

1. A private citizen doesn't have the power to "press charges." Only the prosecutor can file charges. A victim can ask that criminal charges be filed, but the decision rests only with the prosecutor.

2. Charges could be filed even in the absence of physical evidence if there was corroborating evidence. (A witness. One of the parents confesses.)

3. Emancipation is almost never an option under these fact patterns. Emancipation is a legal process that takes time. Abuse is never justification for emancipation. To be emancipated, the minor needs to be in the position (emotionally, physically, financially) to take care of himself. A child who is abused or neglected can be removed from the home and placed with another family member or placed into the foster care system.

Can i press charges on someone for trying to break in my house and i caught them?

Ok so I just spoke to my sheriff's office and waiting on a deputy to call back but the person I talked to said they could probably issue a criminal trespass warning. And I'm not happy about that I know this person he was told to stay off my property and away from me. I have all the messages still of his threats saying he would be back and I would get mine. They don't even warn him about the warning! Is there anything else I can say or do I can't afford a lawyer. And I have two pit pulls and a whole gun cabinet full of guns but am not prepared for something like this to happen and don't want to get in trouble for shooting them. I just want to make sure he won't be back again this is all very scary to me
