I Need To Know - Tendon Injury

Achilles tendon injury?

Injuries on your achilles tendon are very difficult to heal. You probably have a small tear... which has never healed, and may never heal completely. I have an injury of this sort, and it is a chronic problem if I overwork myself. Make sure you warm it up and stretch the tendon well.

Peroneal tendon injury?

I heard a "pop" as rolled my ankle Nov. 1st 2012 and fractured my lateral malleolus. I kept my weight off it for the prescribed time and when the doctor said it was OK to start using it again I cautiously commenced.

After 6 months I was still having pain in the ankle and went back to my doctor for another xray. The doctor said that my bone is healed and that my injury may just take a long time to heal - up to a year.

Now as I research online it's looking like I injured my peroneal tendons. Why did the doctor not tell me this? Is it because the pain is very minimal (even though it's very constant and get's worse if I run or play sports)?

Will this heal within the year? How do I know if I need surgery? What can I do to heal this non-surgically?

If you have answers I would be grateful to hear them. Thanks so much for reading...

I am 13 and I have a knee injury from sports, but I know its not growing pain, what should I do?

Is It a Bowed Tendon? Please Look! I need to know!?

Maria- HE SHOWED NO LAMENESS. BTW- im not gonna stop exercising my horse because the ring is a little deep. we just got it redone with rock dust and its a bit too deep where the barrels are. I'm not going to call the emergency line @ 9pm unless it's something super-serious! I looked it up and found nothing like it. And I'm only trying to get a general idea of what it might be. I love my horses and give them the best I can! I wouldn't have gotten my used-to-be rock hard ring redone if I didn't care. Do you have any idea how much ONE load of rock dust costs? A LOT! I've done what I can do and decided if the swelling is not down by tommorow I'm calling the vet. No need to be rude!

How did you recover from your achilles tendon injury?

For chronic achilles tendonitis...Things I tried that didn't work:eccentric heel dropsresticeheatsports massageheel wedges in shoescast/bootThings I tried that did work (in order from best to worst):strassburg sockgraston (got it from a PT first then did it on my own with a butterknife)ibuprofen (especially before bed, after graston/scraping. 800mg three times daily for a week or two)foam rolling (twice a day)consistent stretching (3-4 times a day)continued easy runningeccentric heel drops (3x15 twice daily progressively adding weight to backpack. 12 weeks minimum.)A few disclaimers... eccentric heels drops didn't work when things were really sore/inflamed, but did help as a preventative once things calmed down a bit. My main problem was lack of flexibility, which I believe is why the strassburg sock/stretching/foam rolling etc was effective. If you're tight, you can do anything you want, but until you increase your range of motion, you'll continue to have problems.Anything that got blood flow to the area made the quickest, most drastic difference with recovery. The tricky part is doing that without making it worse. Also, in my case, I noticed some "gentle" activities like biking actually made me more tight, which was counter-productive. And that's the main reason I continued to run instead of bike. Waiting until you can run pain-free is important. I eventually learned what kind of "discomfort" I could and couldn't train through. It's a really tricky injury and can last for a long time (years).

How can I tell if I tore or injured the tendon of my thumb?

If the tendon is torn there will be much more pain but everyone tolerates pain differently. If the tendon is torn, depending the tendon, the Range of Motion of the thumb would decrease and you would not be able to move the thumb in that certain direction that the tendon is supposed to move. Also you would be able to see the a change in the muscle where the tendon is coming from. The best is to have your thumb evaluated and imaging may be needed in order to make sure that it is torn and not simply injured.

Horse tendon injury? Treatment?

Unless you are well trained on bandage wrapping, don't attempt to wrap this, or you may further the damage. This requires a vet to diagnose...it does sound like a tendon bow. there are varying degrees of bowed tendon injuries, and you need the vet to evaluate this. You can't know the proper treatment without an accurate diagnosis. At least get on the phone and describe the symptoms to your vet, and get an opinion as to whether he needs to see the horse, and follow his advice on treatment.

EDIT...I don't know if you will even see this. I would not give bute without first speaking to the vet, for a multitude of reasons including that you shoudn't mask symptoms that the vet may need to see if he decides to come, which is not unlikely. The fact that the swelling goes up the leg as it does makes abscess a less likely cause, unless infection has spread diffusely into the skin tissue, as in cellulitis, which is serious.
