I Need To Reinstall Mac Os X How Do I Go About This

How do I reinstall the OSX on my iMac from scratch?

First of all, reinstalling the OS rarely fixes a slow Mac; that's more of a Windows thing. You should look for the cause of the slowness otherwise you're going to reinstall the OS and restore from a backup and find your computer just as slow as it was before. Check Activity Monitor and find out if your HDD/SSD is healthy. Make sure that you have enough memory (if you're using Chrome, try not using it and see if that helps). To answer your question, you can reinstall the OS from the recovery partition. Shut down your computer, hold down the Option key, reboot it, and select the recovery partition. Once you're in there you can do a simple reinstall of the OS, or go into Disk Utility and wipe the computer completely before reinstalling. From there you can restore from Time Capsule. Keep in mind, as Glyn Williams points out, if the problem is because of the OS, restoring from the backup is likely to just reconstruct the same problem. There are ways around this if that's the case.

Should you wipe your Mac and reinstall OSX every year to keep it from viruses, malware or spyware?

This is one way to help keep your system clean, but a lot of malware can ‘hide’ in a disk and reinstalling doesn’t protect you. It’s a common practice in the industry to replace disks when a computer is found with malware. We do this as part of a forensics response and the disk is used for research and evidence. And if you install a new disk, you now have to worry about malware that might hide in firmware of various possible chips on the motherboard (low probability, but thought you might enjoy this ;-)When Sony was hacked by North Korea, I was at FireEye and the only way to insure a Mac was clean was to get rid of the old Mac and buy a new one, making sure not to copy any files over that weren’t absolutely cleaned through a very complicated process. In addition, there has been several computer manufacturers who had ‘spyware/malware’ installed in new computers (as far as I know, Apple hasn’t been one of them, but if someone knows of an instance, please comment). In the end, assume you are infected. Once a year is too long a time to take a look at your computer. I always reinstall the OS on a computer if the factory installs one. I then lock down the OS based on best practices and the OS I’m dealing with. Next, I create several users and try not to use an ‘admin/root’ level unless needed. Per several researchers, 99% of Windows (yes, I know you are talking Mac) attacks would not work if the user didn’t have administrator privileges. In other words, we always compromise security for convenience.

Old imac need to gut it. How to reinstall Os (no disk)?

Okay, I am a Mac idiot and know nothing about it. But, I was given an old imac 4 from a non profit (about 10 years old). They only ask that I delete EVERYTHING on it and reinstall everything. Problem. I know nothing of these things! The computer is hella slow and can not do anything at this point,it won't even play dvds! Anyway, if you can help with tips I would appreciate it. I only really want it for the sole pupose of putting educational games for my struggling 5 year old- nothing fancy. Don't really even care about internet access. Here's a little more about the machine:

Model PowerMac 4,1
Power Pc 750 (33,11)
Mac Os X
Version 10.4.11
Processor 600MHz
Power Pc G3
Memory 385 MB Sd Ram

Where would I find discs to clear computer? How do I reinstall the system?? How do I clear it completely? I mean a 'Mean Clean'? How do I get more memory??

Any info is pertenant info because I know nothing. Thank you in advance, Lee.

How to reinstall Microsoft word for the Mac OS X?

Open the Applications folder. You'll find a folder that named 'Microsoft Office 2011' (or any other year's version) in there

There is no known incompatibility between Office 2008, 2011, and OS X 10.6.8, so there must be some other problem.

I would first try the usual troubleshooting routine, to rule out corrupt files or OS X file system problems as a cause of the problem (in which case a reinstallation of Office wouldn't help.). So, check and repair the file system and trash the preference files of all Office applications:

1. Launch the Disk Utility application from the Utilities folder within the Applications folder. In DU, click on 'Macintosh HD' in the right-side column to select it, then click 'Repair Disk Permissions'. This will take 5 minutes or so. When it's done, click 'Validate Disk'. If Validation fails with a red-colored warning, you'll need to boot the Mac from the OS X install DVD and launch DU from there to repair the file system... If validation ends with a green OK message, quit Disk Utility and restart the Mac.

2. Go into your user home folder (the one with the little house icon), navigate down into the folder Library > Preferences. Here you select all files that start with com.microsoft. ... and drag them into the trash. When done, try and launch Word again.

Only if it still doesn't open, should you try if reinstalling Office helps. (Trash the folder 'Microsoft Office 2011' in the Applications folder beforehand.)

To reinstall, you run the Office 2011 installer package downloaded from Microsoft. If you don't have it anymore, you should be able to re-download the Office 2011 installer from the MS website: https://www.microsoft.com/mac/trial The license key you already have will make the trial version a full version. Don't forget to run the Update feature (Help > Check for Updates) after launching Word the first time, so that you get all bug fixes.

I am trying to format and reinstall Mac OS X and it is taking about 15 hours. Is this normal?

I don't think it's normal, unless you're using Internet Recovery (which I don't recommend). The only massive update to Yosemite so far is 10.10.1 that is already included in the installer downloadable from App Store. In my opinion, the best way to go for this is to create a USB installer to upgrade to Yosemite (Create a bootable installer for OS X Mavericks or Yosemite). The installation from USB can be slow as well, but not that much.

How do I restore my mac without os x install disk?

Insert the install disc, and at some point during the installation you should be able to use "utilities" at the top of the screen, select the disc utility and format your current partition. Then simply continue with the installation.

edit;
it clearly states in your question details "I possess the snow leopard install disk and the iLife disk".
How else do you plan on installing Snow Leopard?
