I Really Want To Be A Dentist However I Am Terrible At Math Help

"I want a tattoo on my wrist, however I am also applying to dental school, would this be a bad idea?

Hi i am a dentist and i have two tattoos.. both are on my back.. I got them one while studying in dental school

The reason i got them done on my back an not on wrist or shoulder because it looks unprofessional

Seeing my tattoos my patients will really wonder that whether i am a teen going to clg or a doctor..........

I am sorry to say but its true that fashion fads donot go with a respectable and responsible profession like ours! But at the same time as we want to have fun , so its better we do things with few restrictions and obligations!!!!!

And congrats for the beginning of new career!

Math problems that dentists use?

Boy, I can't wait to see a good answer for this. I had to take Calculus to get into dental school and 31 years later, I have not had to use it once.

Math... Sometimes I calculate a child's dose for a medication based on his weight.

If the dose for a medication is 250 mg per 70 kg body weight, what would be the proper dose for a 45 pound child?

To get the answer, you have to figure out how many mg per kg, figure out how many pounds per kg and take it from there.

250/70 = about 3.57 mg per kg of body weight

2.2 lb = 1 kg so:

45 lb / 2.2 = 20.45 kg

3.57 mg X 20.45 kg = 73 mg proper dose

Did I do that right or did I kill the kid? Check my math.

Otherwise, we sometimes measure stuff, but that's about all. The orthodontists use various simple math formulas for stuff that I don't know too much about. None of it involves calculus, though.

Can I become a dentist if math isn't my strong suit?

yes for sure!Maths is not needed as a primary subject to pursue dentistry. You need to have medical subjects specially biology till 12th grade, appear in pre medical exams, get into a dental college...... and congrats! you are now on your way to become a dentist!I have seen people who struggle in maths, becoming very good doctors. Go ahead!Hope this helps!

I'm bad at Math, but I want engineering. What should I do?

I am an engineer with over 40 years experience, having risen to the senior management level of a process engineering contracting company. I worked in plant operations, design, marketing, project management and general management. At no time did I use any of the advanced engineering techniques (Fourier equations, LaPlace transorms etc) which I dutifully learnt to reproduce in my Engineering Mathematics exams. Now, such techniques (and many more) are undoubtedly used in complex simulation techniques and other R&D applications, but they are not required for many areas of "practical engineering". Nevertheless, if you wish to graduate in engineering, you will need to "go through the hoops" of passing in your mathematics subjects. And there will be some areas of less advanced math, such as calculus and statistics, which are more likely to be of use through you career. The other thing to consider is that, while you may not need the advanced techniques, you will need a "numerically-oriented" brain which is able to do the manipulation of data required in engineering, be it a heat and mass balance it a structural stress calculation. This "numeracy" skill, which is developed through your study and your professional career and is an important component of our skill set as an engineer.

Tooth abscess but can't afford dentist..?

You can't leave this, and your friend is right, you can absolutely die from a dental abscess spreading to your brain.

You have to get another adult to help you: your advisor, your friend's mom, your dad or another relative. Explain to them that you're in AGONY--the pain is just terrible--and you can't concentrate in school and you can't sleep, and your mom will not take you to a dentist no matter what. The school counselor or nurse may be able to help you figure out if you qualify for aid from your state or county. It's child neglect/child abuse not to get you appropriate medical care. Look in your Yellow Pages, even, to find a dentist who will take payments if money's an issue with your mother. You may need a root canal, which means that your tooth won't need to be pulled. You don't want to pull a tooth--otherwise the nearby teeth will move and then your bite will get screwed up. Does your mom get child support for you from your dad? Are you on your dad's health insurance? You need to be persistent about getting help, and if you get someone at your school to help you then they'll check to make sure you got to the dentist. There is no excuse for this. I'd keep doing warm salt water rinses to make your gums less sore but this is not a permanent fix, and nothing from the drugstore will fix this. Your mother has to get up off her rump and do her job. Keep stressing to your school principal that it's interfering with school because you're in too much pain. And if that doesn't work, then ask your friend's mom if she won't call Child Protective Services on your behalf (or you can do it yourself). You can do this--be brave and ask for help as often as you need to until you get to a dentist. If your mother gets mad, tell her you asked for her help and she blew you off, and you couldn't understand why she didn't care about you.

You have a good friend, and I bet her mom is nice too. I'm sure they'd help you. Dental pain is just awful, I don't know how you've stood it this long. Be persistent, and good luck! I will keep you in my thoughts, sweetheart :-) (and if your mom wants your painkillers tell her to forget it!)

I am really good at math but suck bad at science. What is wrong with me?

There is nothing wrong with you. Your brain just has a different focus - logical numbers is your focus as opposed to analytical processes.

I was exactly opposite you when I was in school. I was reallly good in science and hated math. Sucked at math. So so in physics ( hated the math bit - that would be the part you would like).

Look, don't panic. It's just the way it is. Your mind is focused at looking at logical deductions that is why you are good in math. Science is a little bit different as the equations and logical deductions can come with different outcomes. There's also a lot of process involved and is not as straightforward as just working with numbers. Is this a weakness? Not at all. You will do well in your mathematical field - science needs people like you, you know.

Focus on what you like and don't stress out on the ones that is not really much interest to you. You are young. Dont' forget to have fun.

You will never regain your youth once you've lost it.

I might fail organic chemistry, will I still get accepted to dentistry or medical school if...?

Medical schools and dental schools are not interested in your knowledge of Chemistry. They do, however, care about your problem-solving skills. Organic Chemistry is one course they use as an indicator of your inductive reasoning ability, your diagnostic skills. You must get good grade in Organic Chemistry and its associated lab course to be acceptable to dental school.

Take the course again and get an A.

If I’m bad at math and science, can I ever get into medical school?

It is possible, however extremely likely. To get into medical school here, you require grade A in Chemistry, Biology, Maths/Physics, and one other subject, usually two. Medicine is largely based around chemistry and biology. To try and get into medical school without a great ability in the sciences is akin to trying to apply for law school without knowledge of logic and rationality, or applying for a graduate spot in French without knowing anything beyond Bonjour. If, however, you have the capacity to learn quickly, and you simply haven't applied yourself, then taking a premed year (A101) can allow you to study any remaining science you don't understand.

Can I become a nurse even though I failed math?

Yes!!I'm terrible at math. Just terrible… My brain turns numbers around….but I made it through nursing school. You have to pass the pre req’s. For me it was basic algebra. I had to take it twice. All those numbers and letters meant nothing to me. Once I understood what they represented, the relationships between concepts, well, it was still hard, but I passed. Not with an A, but good enough. Now to nursing. There are really only a handful of simple formulas you need to know. Kilograms to pounds. Drug conversions. A few others. If you can struggle through basic algebra, you can manage them. The nursing program I was in had a math quiz every single Friday. That was smart. It drilled it into every students brain, and even if you had a bad day, that one grade wouldn't trash your grades. By the time I graduated I could do it. Years later I can still do. I can't balance my checkbook, but I can get your drug dose right.Being bad at math doesn't mean you are dumb. It means you probably have a form of dyslexia. There are tricks you can use, and practice makes perfect. If you want this bad enough, you can do it.

Dental and Methadone question?

Im 28yrs old, I do not have Ins. & I really need to see a dentist.
I have very bad teeth, not from bad oral hygiene, but more likely because I had braces when I was a teen & I think they made them weaker, & it was really hard to brush them good with them on, also I had 3 children before the age of 21, so Im sure my body wasnt done growing either & it took all the calcium ect. out of me when I was pregnant with them.
However my main concern {other then the massive headache & the infection} is that Im also on Methadone ;( and I dont know if I can be sedated with the nitris gas stuff, or "laughing gas" I want to get it if possible but am afraid it may interact with the Methadone..? Im scared
:(
