I Spilled 3 Ounces Of Gasoline In My Room

How do you get rid of a gasoline smell spilled on concrete floors?

While there is no exact proven method to get rid of the smell of gasoline, I am in a profession where I often have to remove odors, smells, and or stains from hard-to-reach places or places that you would think are impossible. With that being said on concrete my number one issue with gasoline would be if there are any cracks or places where the gas could settle or go down into. I would first address these issues by spraying vinegar which is mixed with water in a spray bottle into the cracked portions of the concrete. Secondly, I would adid water to the concrete and mop liberally mixing the water and vinegar as I go. Lastly, I would ventilate (blowers, fans, open windows) the area thoroughly as gas will usually naturally evaporate from the area. Most importantly, I would make sure that there are no people who need to be in this area for long periods of time because if you can smell the gas that is a problem. Make sure that you can ventilate the area for at least 24–48 hours. Worst case scenario repeat the water and vinegar solution until you at least neutralize the odor. Good luck!

How fast does gasoline evaporate?

Gasoline is very volatile, meaning that it evaporates easily. It is the volatility that allows the fuel and air to mix thoroughly before ignition in an IC engine.Everyone who has filled up a car with gasoline has dripped some fuel at some time. Notice how quickly it dissipates into the atmosphere? The speed of evaporation depends on the temperature of the fuel and whatever surfaces it contacts. Pour a cup of gasoline on a sunlit concrete slab during the summer, and it disappears quickly. Do the same thing in the shade during the winter, and it will hang around a bit longer. This is also why gasoline blends are adjusted between winter and summer. During the winter, more butane is added to the fuel to make it suitably volatile during cold weather. In the summer time, less butane is allowed so that the warm weather doesn’t produce excessive hydrocarbon emissions to the atmosphere.

What should you do when you drink gasoline by accident?

It’s better to go to a hospital if you have swallowed a large quantity. In case you have swallowed a few drops or even a teaspoon full, it should not be a cause of worry. However, you must take few precautions. Here’s a list of precautions / thing to keep in mind.1. Petrol in your body can affect your heart and brain. If swallowed in large doses it can cause permanent brain damage.2. Poisoning can occur from large doses of petrol and can cause dizziness, difficulty in breathing, vision loss, stomach pain etc.3. Do not smoke or drink alcohol for about 24 hours.4. After rinsing the mouth with water, drink juices or water. This would let petrol pass quickly through the system.5. Petrol in the digestive system is likely to create some discomfort and cause the person to burp. This is nothing to worry about.6. Avoid drinking aerated drinks as it would aggravate the burps that might naturally result from petrol.7. In case the person vomits naturally, it’s okay. Inhaling Gasoline can be much more dangerous and can cause respiratory problems. Therefore do not try to induce vomiting as it may result inhalation of fumes. One should avoid breathing the gaseous vapours.8. Petrol is highly volatile and therefore the risk of brain damage is much greater in swallowing it. Inhalation in large quantities can cause lung oedema.9. Children are more susceptible than adults and may experience adverse affects even with smaller quantity of liquid.10. It’s widely assumed that drinking milk or eating milk products can stop poisoning, while the opposite may be true as milk can cause faster absorption of petrol in the body. It’s better to take an opinion of doctor before doing so.

Will putting bleach in our fountain kill birds?

there is a wonderful safe algaecide sold at Lowes and at pet stores that will solve the problem of the green water and goop and still not hurt the birds... get some.... bleach will kill your pump... don't use it!.... five gallons?... dump and clean and refill it.... don't use soap... use a rag, a brush and some sand to scrub it.... then rinse and fill and add the algaecide.... there's even a 'block' called Fountain Blocks that will keep the water clear without a lot of fuss, too.... another thing that helps is..... overfill..... if the fountain is like a bowl or tub, turn on the hose and fill it till it spills over and then a bit more.... adding new water, which has the city chlorine in it, will 'freshen it' and cool it some.... the heat and the sunlight encourages the algae to grow..... shade DOES help, but if you cannot move a big fountain, that's out..... the season for it is going to be much better here soon... cooler weather means less algae growth.... get the right stuff and enjoy your fountain!!!....

Why does water spilled on a floor evaporate more rapidly than the same amount of water in a glass?

Well, assuming the floor is the same temperature as the water in the glass - the obvious difference would be due to the surface area.Water can only evaporate off of the surface - so if you take the same VOLUME of water - and spread half of it out over (say) one square meter of floor and pour the other half into a glass where the area of the liquid’s surface is only (say) 10 square centimeters - then you’d expect the liquid on the floor to evaporate away 100 times faster. In practice, the rate difference may be even higher because the sides of the glass may be able to trap some of the denser, humid air just above the surface of the water and with a layer of close to 100% humidity, prevent any more evaporation. If the floor is larger than the spill and the room is well ventilated, then the spill would dry even faster than the 100:1 rate you’d predict from the area alone.Water evaporates faster at high temperatures, but when things evaporate, they cool the liquid that’s left behind. Because the surface area of the glass itself is smaller than the floor, the temperature of the water will decrease and STAY cooler due to the evaporation. But the floor (being a large slab of more or less uniform temperature) would barely change temperature at all. So the water on the floor is likely to be warmer than the water in the glass - and that makes it evaporate faster too.All three of these effects will contribute to the water drying from the floor faster than from the glass.

How can i open an aerosol hairspray can?

I'm not sure how you plan to "pop off the bottom of the can", but there are commercial devices made for safely puncturing and emptying aerosol cans. A hammer and nail and can opener or pliers is not a safe way to do it.

There may still be several ounces of flammable liquid inside the can even though the propellant appears to be exhausted. Plus, the liquid may be hazardous to you and the environment if consumed, spilled or disposed of improperly.

I have this sneaky suspicion that you are going to try to open your "empty" hairspray can anyway. Please think about this - About 5,000 people end up in U.S. emergency rooms each year from accidents with aerosol cans. Hopefully, you won't be one of them this year.

Concerned 1st Time Mother?

Are you sure it's all his milk? When babies spit up it looks like alot more then it is. Someone once said spill 1 Tablespoon of water on the counter and look at how much more it looks like. If your baby is projectile puking (like a couple feet) and isn't gaining weight I would be concerned. If this is happening you need to talk again to your doctor. Insist on having an US done for pyloric stenosis, which can show up a few weeks after baby is born. If your baby has this, he will start to lose weight and be projectile puking ALL his food up. It could also be a milk allergy.
Otherwise all you really can do is keep them sitting up after feedings and make you burp him well. Some babies just spit up more. If it's formula, they have a formula out there that is supposed to reduce spit up (I don't remember what, as I breastfeed and my baby rareyl spits up).
