I Want To Be A Midwife

I want to be a midwife, but feel I am too shy?

I am a first year medical student and I understand what you are going through! I always thought I was too shy to be a doctor, or too stupid (sounds bad, but I had no confidence in myself), but ever since I went to university and started my placements on the wards, I loved it and I am really confident. When you have experience and you get in the zone of what you want to do, you are quickly not shy and you soon won't be able to shut up lol ;) I suggest you get some experience in a hospital - so help out in a hospital or shadow a neonatal nurse or a midwife for 1 week or 2 weeks, so you can see the role and job they do, how they interact with patients and then you can prepare yourself. Also, at university they have special seminars where they show you and teach you how to talk to patients and build up conversations with people - you do role plays, and you see your weakness and your good points. Nobody is perfect, we all have our flaws, but you can improve on them. When you go on the ward for the first time and talk to a patient, you will probably be scared and find it hard to talk to people, but once you have pratice and you talk to several people, you will get used to it and it will be a breeze (: drama is a great way to boost your confidence. Don't worry about it, everything will be fine, just be confident, have a smile on your face and everyone will love you. Good luck :D x

I want to be a midwife. Any advice? :/?

Any advice of becoming a midwife?

I am 14 and I really want to take this up as a career but I have a few questions :)
-How much pay ( I don't care about the money just asking haha)
-Is it a travelling kind of job or do you stay in one place
-Are there different types of midwives?
-What do I need to study for in order to become one?
-Any extra advice please tell me :)

Thank you so much, I really appreciate it!

How do I change NHS midwife (UK)?

I'm not really happy with the information given by the midwife at my Doctor's surgery and desperate to change. However, when I spoke to the doctor about this, I was told that she is the only midwife at that surgery and if I want to see anyone else I have to change doctors. This would mean changing GP, Surgery location and a lot of effort. Also, she warned it could cause a gap in my antenatal care.

Is this correct? Who else can I ask if I want to change? Is there any way of being referred to another midwife at another surgery without actually having to change where I am registered? Or even a midwife at the hospital? I would really prefer not to have to start seeing another GP, it's just the midwife thing that's an issue.

Please note that I live in the UK and this is a question about the NHS - we are allocated midwives rather than having a choice. Thanks for any help you can give!

How to become a midwife?

This year is my last year of high school & of course every high school student at this point should be concerned about the path of life they want to take. I want to become a midwife, but I'm not sure on what steps to take to do so. My dream is to be a midwife & travel to countries such as Africa & Southeast Asia & help women with childbirth. Where do I start?

How to tell my parents that I want to be a midwife.?

Hi. I'm 14 and want to be a midwife when I grow up. I know this isn't the most popular choice of people my age, and most people my age think birth is gross, but I don't. I grew up watching A Baby Story on TLC and birth has always fascinated me. Last yearish I went on YouTube and watched a few birth videos and they didnt gross me out at all. I have been doing a lot of research on this subject and think that midwifery is what I Want to study. The problem is my mom has said many times before "why would you give birth without drugs?" or "giving birth at home is the stupidest thing I've ever heard". Well due to the fact that I want to study (and have been studying for over a year now) and hopefully one day become a
midwife I see her faults and lack of knowledge on the subject of
giving birth. She has actually said to me when we were watching
something where a women gave birth at home, that I should never
give birth at home because it's stupid. So due to the fact that I live in
the united states where most women give birth in hospitals and are being brainwashed under the dillusion that the only place a women can/should/will give birth is at a hospital. My mother is in that category and I believe If I tell her she'll think it's a stupid career or that I'm referring to being a labOr and delivery nurse. I know I have plentaly of time to think on this but this is really what I Want to do. Any help is appreciated and hearing from real midwives would be very helpful.

Hello i want to become a nurse-midwife?

a nurse-midwife and a midwife are two different things. A nurse midwife is a nurse (that has an RN) but acts as a midwife ( delivering babies) but she/he is a registered Nurse. A midwife is a individual that that is not certified as a nurse and delivers babies. Typically nurse midwives work in hospitals while midwives work is birth centers. You can become an RN in community college and this can take about two years a nurse midwife typically has a masters degree in midwifery. You can also go to college (bastyr university) and get a degree in midwifery without having to become an RN. it will take you about 4-6 ( with undergrad college included) it depends a nurse midwife usually works 3 days a week in 12 hours shifts. But there are different circumstances. I personally don't think there is anything bad about this career you get paid well and you have a lot of fun. You also get to bring babies into the world:) they deliver babies but a nurse midwife could work in the neonate wing. Good luck it's a great career go for it girl!

I have my GED, and I want to be a certified nurse midwife. How can I get the proper schooling for that career?

I have a GED; not a high school diploma. My ideal career would be a nurse midwife. What are my options for schooling/how could I get into a good nursing school?

also what kind of degrees/education do you need for a nurse midwife career?
