Why do you want to be an actor/actress?

I couldn’t tell you. It’s never been a conscious decision.I remember watching The Muppet Show as a kid, particularly the scenes of chaos backstage, and thinking, “That’s me. That’s where I belong.”I remember staring at people as a kid — people I knew, strangers, whomever — and trying to will myself to see out of their eyes. I think it was an early manifestation of the impulse to get out of myself and experience the world through someone else. It’s never been for money or fame or adoration or any of that. People who do it for those reasons don’t last, because almost no one gets that stuff, and those who do find it isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. I’d say it’s a love of the work, but it’s more than that. It’s my calling. It’s who I am. When I’m doing the work of sustaining a life as an actor, I feel at home, like I’m doing what I’m meant to be doing. The few times I’ve had to walk away from it for a while have been deeply painful. Everything felt wrong. Many of the actors I know describe it similarly. If we could turn it off, we probably would have at some point, because being an actor is a crazy thing to do with your life. But we can’t. It’s just who we are.

I want to become an actor but Im shy?

Okay - forget about Starnow - that's basically useless, although adults might find a few very low-paid roles going. Until you really ARE an actor - it's pointless. No-one ever hires beginners. And any auditions that you have to pay to attend, are total scams!

In the UK there's really only one way to get to be an actor.
First, you'll need to get into a good acting class, like Stagecoach, and keep attending for several years. You'll also need to learn how to sing and dance well. There are kids' acting classes everywhere - not just in London!
Get lots of GCSEs, then go to college to get A Level Drama, English, Psychology - that sort of thing. And all the time, keep taking acting classes and taking part in stage plays wherever you can find them. You have to get experience.
Then you'd need to try to get a place at a major drama school - but that's a long time in the future.

But if you're not tough enough to cope with people laughing at you, getting teased, you'll never be an actor. They have to be really determined and not care a bit what people say! Actors get laughed at, criticised, rejected, mocked and told bad things almost every day of their lives!

Have a think. Can you be strong enough to ignore anyone who makes fun of you? Do you want to be an actor enough? Being shy isn't a problem - I know loads of actors and most of them are quite shy. If you really want this - find a local acting class and get working!
Good luck!

I want to be an actor but i have no experience?

I really want to be an actor, i know i have to get experience but i am finding it hard to find workshops and classes in my area. What would be the best way to get experience-go college or to a workshop, im not able to afford a drama school yet. If i go college when i finished the course would i then have to go drama school or could i look for acting roles straight after?

I'm 18 and i want to be an actor, is it to late? i have no experience in acting?

I literally have no acting classes near me other than the college, but i was thinking of practicing samples of scenes i would like to do. hopefully when i get my G.E.D i can get classes and experience, i don't have stage fright, so not to worried about that. I've noticed others asked this same question, and some want to be an actor/actress's for fame i haven't even thought about fame. I only started thinking about acting a year ago, afraid to tell anyone cause i like to skateboard, snowboard, bmx. I've brought it up to my sister and a friend but they kinda laughed as if i was joking thinking its not my thing cause i do all those action sports. I want to act in a tv show like Slide, and sci-fi shows.
can't think of anything else i wanna do as a career.

I'm 19 and just decided I want to become an actor. Where should I begin?

Where are you?  What do you look like?  If you're good-looking and/or young-looking (i.e., you could pass for a minor) go to LA, take some acting classes, and start looking for an agent.  I knew lots of people in their 20s who made good money playing underage in movies, TV and commercials.  No one is going to expect you to have much of a resume at this point, so a lot depends on your looks, and if you get your foot in the door, your personality and talent. If you want to be a serious actor and/or you are not spectacular- or young-looking, either look for a good acting school or a college or conservatory with a good theatre department.  Do your research.  See who has graduated from those programs.  A good college program should have some sort of showcase for agents and casting directors that they put on with their seniors.  Or access to regional auditions. Or both.  You'll need to take acting and/or on-camera classes no matter what.  But doing your research is important.  Anyone can put out a shingle and call themselves an acting teacher.  And many colleges have theatre programs that won't do a thing for you.If you decide to go the straight-to-looking for work route, it's best that you be in NY, LA or Chicago.  There are acting opportunities in other places, but they exist in much greater numbers in those cities.  If you want to concentrate on film and TV, the place with the most opportunities for that is LA, although they do film things in other places, obviously. No matter where you go, just try to put yourself out there, as much as you can.  Perform as much as you can.  Go to as many auditions as you can get into.  Just don't ever pay an agent to represent you.  That's a big no-no, and if anyone ever asks you for money for that or insists you use a certain photographer, run.  That would be a scam artist, IN EVERY CASE.  All the unions prohibit such behavior. It's difficult to succeed, but plenty of people you've never heard of make decent livings as actors.  It takes luck and talent.  I wish you both.

I don't think i want to be an actor anymore? 10 pts?

You don't have to have a professional acting career to act. You can use your talents locally in things like community theaters or may hosting local events. If making money is your goal - there are much better ways of doing that then acting. And you could be just as happy doing something else as you would be acting.

But there's no easy way to make money. That's why some people are attracted to acting - they think it's easy money. But you know all the blood, sweat, and tears that goes into trying to have a professional career. It's going to be the same for any career you choose. It'll require hard work and sacrifice. That's why it's important to be passionate about what you try to do - to get you through the hard times. Talent is fine - but if you don't work and improve that talent in whatever you do. And if you can understand whatever industry you choose to go into, it'll increase your chances of success.

The key is to have a well-balanced life with whatever career you choose. Work on balancing career, training along with relationships, education, and basically your life.

My story - I was a professional stage actress for 15 years and worked VERY hard for the mild success I had. I was never famous - but I worked pretty consistently and I liked the work that I did. I invested a lot of time, effort and money into my career. When I got older, my husband and I wanted to start a family. I knew I couldn't be the mother I wanted to be and but the same dedication into my acting career, so I choose my children and I don't regret it at all. I do community theater in the area. I host fundraising events at my kids school. I help out in school productions. Now that my kids are older, I joined an improve group and investigating how far I want to take that.

The point is - you will have several choices through out your life. That you choose an acting career now and you never "make it" doesn't mean you'll look back on your life as a failure. If you keep a balance in your life, and know yourself and what you really want and what makes you happy - whatever you do, you can make it work. Right now - you're still trying to figure out who you are and what makes you happy and that's OK. Keep working that out and know that your priorities will change throughout your life - just keep an eye on who you are. Don't loose sight of that.

Good luck.
