I Want To Be Healthy And Fit. Help

Getting healthy and fit?

Talk to a trainer at the gym. You may have to pay a little, but if you only do one or two sessions to learn, it'll be worth the expense.

For a general rule, do 30 minutes of moderate cardio and lift with light weights (5-15 lbs) for 3-5 sets in 15 reps each alternating upper and lower body every other day. There is no such thing as target weight loss. End. Of. Story. Cardio and weights is the best way to drop weight.

As for eating healthy, figure out your BMR (Google for a calculator). Eat regular, small, balanced meals about 5 times a day. Get about 5-7 servings of whole grains, 3-5 of both fruits and veggies and plenty of protein. For example:

Breakfast:
Oatmeal made with either skim or vanilla soy milk with a few walnuts and half an apple chopped and mixed in (my personal favorite)

Lunch:
Whole grain english muffin with Laughing Cow light swiss, apple, chicken, walnut and spinach (I like apple and walnuts...)
Yogurt cup

Dinner:
A huge salad with lots of veggies and oil and vinegar dressing
A source of protein like beans, poultry, or fish
A piece of fruit

Snacks can be stuff like grapes, pretzels, popcorn, ect. Feel free to email me if you'd like more suggestions.

Moderation is the key. Learn portion sizes (just start Googling...) and pay attention to what you put in yourself. You can't help but eat healthier if you do.

Im 14 and I want to eat healthy and become fit. I'm not that fat, but i can't eat healthy because in my family no one eats that healthy.?

I'm 14 and i go the gym 6 days a week but i dont see any results at all. I think its because of my diet, i'm 171 pounds and 5.8 Feet and inches.
Is that fat or what? I can't eat healthy because my family always serves unhealthy food, and there is no option for me. what should i do?

I want to become fit and healthy, where do I begin?

Don't join the gym. People join the gym for one year membership and only go for a week. Try this instead. Get a small pocket book or calendar and hang on the wall somewhere in your house.Start with day 1. Do push ups like 20, burpees and pull ups as many as you can in one set. Do 4 sets of each workout. 1 set means you did 10 push ups aka 10 reps without stopping. Do 4 sets of everything.  Do the same thing next day but more than what you did yest. May be 11 push ups or more. Follow this for 5 days and take 2 days rest. Try again same thing next week. May be go for running or long  jogging or any type of workout. Mark your calendar or book. What you did here is "commitment' if you did your workout without skip a day or two. You are ready for a gym if you want. You can always workout at home or go in the park. Next part is nutritions. You learn more as you go but the most important time to eat before and after workout. Eat carbs like rice with chicken or bread with meat so you get some energy. Eat right after you done working out. Same food. Sleep a lot and drunk lots of water. Good Luck! Let me know if you have any questions.

Why do we have to stay fit and healthy?

My body is aching for attention. It’s been a month since I joined college, and not a day has passed when I haven’t chewed on something from any one of my college’s 5 canteens - or the food outlets outside. I have been stuffing my body with god knows what oil and junk, because food acquires a whole new flavor when taken with bargaining, begging for treats and in the company of friends.Somehow, everything seems just a bit more special and yummy with my friends. My body takes it all, silent, uncomplaining. And miraculously, the very next day or so, everything is the same. I’m okay. I am living. My eyes ache day and night as I remain glued to Whatsapp and Facebook and Quora, texting and chatting at inane speeds with around 10 people simultaneously, at 1 in the morning. And yet, the next day I wake up with normal sight, and can take in the beauty of the world around me.My body cries for attention. For me to take care of it. This miracle machine, this immense gift we have, this system which works so perfectly in digestion and sensation and thinking and loving and what not - we ruin it day after day by stuffing it with foreign, unpleasant food that appeals to our limited senses but not to our souls. My body is weeping. And I need to care for it. I need to be grateful to this machine, this stupendous, mind-blowing creation which works even when I’m asleep or just doing nothing, and wants only my attention and nothing else.I need to keep my body happy. By keeping it healthy.

I am 6ft and 124lbs. is that healthy?

No. That makes your BMI 16.something. Way too scrawny.

What are your health and fitness goals?

Hey hun

Firstly, my health goals are to:
- Consistently drink 3 L of water daily and some green tea,
- Maintain a high level of fruit and vege intake,
- Very very rarely touch fast foods or greasy meals,
- Experiment with different healthy foods,
- Vary my diet more, and
- Continue cleansing my system

My fitness goal is to generally become fit, tone my stomach and legs/bum. I would love to just feel a whole heap healthier! I also want to be able to maintain my weight throughout my University course and be able to reach a high level of flexibility (do the splits again, etc)

A month has past and I'm on my way to achieving these things... My only wish is that I could have done it earlier!!

Health: I am 40 years old and I want to keep my body fit and firm to sustain it habituated to work at any condition. What kind of diet do I need to maintain starting from breakfast to dinner. What food habits and with what kind of exercise should I take care of my body?

This is a good age to get serious if you haven't yet. You aren't so old that health problems have started, but you aren't young anymore either-so abusing your body is less of an option. I'd suggest the following:Resistance training should be number one with a bullet in your arsenal. As we age, we lose strength and muscle. So, not only does that mean spindly arms and legs due to muscle atrophy, it means you are getting weaker. Lifting weights, or other types of resistance training will help to maintain your overall strength and tone. A fitness trainer can help you, or you can purchase any one of a number of books that will help you craft a weight training program. I was your age when I started lifting-and I used this book:  Getting Stronger: Weight Training for Sports: Bill Pearl: 9780936070384: Amazon.com: BooksClean up the diet. This is number 1A. You may have heard it said that good health starts in the kitchen. Well, to some degree, that is true. Many of the ills that we have as we age often are caused by bad eating habits over decades. Get rid of the processed foods, and start buying whole foods/foods close to their natural state: veggies, meats, fish, eggs, bread with minimal processing such as whole grain bread or wheat pastas. Cook/prepare more of your own meals with these foods. Processed foods contain a lot of preservatives and a lot of sugar, and we are now discovering what a number all that added sugar in our food is doing on our health. Start reading labels when purchasing anything in a can, a bag, or a box, and try to cut down on that. Whatever you do buy should have as little added  crap in it as possible. Fortunately, it seems to be easier to find foods that have little processing to them than it was a few years ago-food manufacturers are starting to get the message that there is a market out there for food with natural ingredients.Cardio. You need to move. Sloth is not only a deadly sin, it can kill. Walk everywhere you can. Start an exercise program: running, biking, swimming, playing sports, whatever will get your butt off the couch, your heart pumping, and will make you sweat. Take the stairs instead of the escalator/elevator.

I want to be fit and healthy, but I dislike working out. Is there any other way to become/stay fit and healthy?

Work out in a different way.Just like the problem of books with people lies not in the fact that we don't like to read but the fact that we still haven't found our favorite books, there's more ways than just exercising at a gym for working out. It could be walking for 45 minutes after eating lunch, it could be playing some movement intensive precise motion control based games, taking the habit of climbing up and down stairs instead of using elevators, walking an hour and a half in your favorite Mall, etc..Take these alternatives as first steps for doing workout, but don't discard common workout methods forever. In fact, when you feel like doing them, opt to do these common workout methods in a place you can fall in love with. You could even do some workout in the park of a Mall that has public exercising machines if that exists! All in all, remember as well that you need to reasonably think in the long term: You won't kill your fat in just a few days or weeks. Just try to form you workout starting as reasonably easy as possible, thinking about what you have managed after doing so, trying to do it regularly and stepping the difficulty up as gradually as you see it step up the best for you.Oh! And if you're like me and don't have much time because of school or work, try to do that work in the mornings of every possible day that is free of school or work. You'll be thankful that you activate your body after you come back at 1 PM to your house, feeling ready to confront the responsibilities you need to confront.

What do most german people do to stay healthy?

While I was in Germany I did notice a few things. Even though some German food is what we would consider very fattening the Germans we saw appeared very healthy and fit. What I noticed:

Many, many Germans (and Europeans in general) do not have cars. They have been paying sky high prices for gasoline for decades and a car is pretty much a luxury item. So, while they use mass transit, they do much more walking than we do.

Germans are much more involved in physical activity during their free time. Many Americans come home from sedentary jobs, eat way too much for dinner and then spend the rest of the evening in front of the TV. Or, the closest we get to sports is to watch the game on Sunday. On the weekends in Germany you will see whole families out riding bikes, hiking, playing soccer etc.

They are more physically active even when they are home. One thing we noticed all over Germany was the homes are spotless. I mean inside and out - and "out" includes the sidewalk and gutter in front of your house. The yards are immaculate and the windows sparkle.

On the weekend I might walk 50 feet from my front door to my car. Drive to the mall and after only a little slow walking, sit down in the food court and have things we all know are not healthy. In Germany, on the weekends, many streets will be closed off to cars so people can wander up and down and have easy access to all the little shops. Of course they have already walked there from home and will walk back again when they are done.

If you go out on a weekend you might stop at Cold Stone Creamery and get a giant bowl of ice cream with all kinds of other fattening stuff mixed in. On the walking strasses if you bought from the ice cream vendor you got a scoop about the size of a golf ball.

If you ever get a chance to visit Germany - or any other country for that matter - grab the opportunity. Even if you go to a really modern country you will be amazed to see just how easy we have it here.
