I Want To Be More Modest

Are nude/tan pantyhose more modest than black pantyhose?

This is a good question, as I usually don't think too much in terms of modesty when I dress; mostly, I try to think in terms of the flow and coordination of the outfit.

Some suggest that black is classy and elegant, but that rule isn't universal. On an evening dress, yes, black is very elegant. But on a short cocktail dress, black is provocative and daring.

The modesty of skin-tone hosiery can also vary, depending on the finish. If it is satiny or glossy, it naturally draws more attention to the legs. A more matte or powdery finish is a more subtle touch, and doesn't scream for attention nearly as much.

So for this particular situation, on the modesty scale, I'd say:
- Skin-tone in matte or powder finish is the most modest
- Skin-tone in a satin or gloss finish is less modest
- Black is provocative (least modest)

How can I become more modest?

How can I become more modest?I personally think that I am quite clever and I get annoyed if I feel that people do not view me as clever. Now perhaps I am indeed quite intelligent however, I want to become more modest. Bertrand Russell and Shakespeare both stated that wise people know they are fools, how can I be like this?“I used to lack modesty, but now that I have it, I’m perfect!” – as the old joke goes.“Clever” has many flavours. There is intelligence, cunning, wisdom, knowledge. Being intelligent and full of knowledge doesn’t mean that one has the wisdom to apply it.Both Russell and Shakespeare draws from Socrates. The story goes that Socrates never held himself as the wisest, because he knew he didn’t know everything. But still, people called him the wisest, so in order to refute that, he went all around Greece to find someone wiser. But regardless of whom he spoke to, he discovered that they thought they knew more than they did. Eventually, he grudgingly accepted that he was the wisest of all, because he knew the limits of his knowledge. And “grudgingly” is important, because he didn’t rejoice in being the wisest. Rather, he thought that it was quite sad that everyone else were less wise than him, the fool.

I want to dress more modestly, like a Muslimah, but can't wear the headscarf. What are other good ways to do this?

A Muslim has what is called in Arabic the ‘awra. This is the part of your body that no one outside your family should see. For men, it is from the naval to below the knee. For women the guidelines for their dress in front of women and men differ. Among all women it is also from the naval to the knee. Scholars have said this is to allow women to breastfeed freely when they are in the company of other women. In front of men, she should cover her body in loose clothing and should only show the face and hands.Since you are asking how would one dress more modestly without wearing the headscarf, you could opt for clothing that is not form fitting, too short or reveals too much of your chest.Modest dressing: Why the cover-up?This article from the BBC is an interesting look at the rise of modest fashion among some of the world’s most popular women. I found this quote to be particularly resounding:“The recurring theme around modest fashion is that a definition is difficult to find, and not altogether necessary.”Basically dress in a way that speaks about your intellect, your compassion and your way of life, not your physical attributes as a woman.

How to make short shorts look more modest?

I have these pair of black high waisted shorts, and they're really cute, but they show my butt cheeks. I want to wear it to school but I think it's too short. I was thinking of wearing tights under them, would it look less obviously short? Would maybe wearing black or dark tights make them look more modest? Please help :3

Instead though I would make the bottoms shorts nothing like basketball shorts but just shorts nonetheless and keep the triangle part of it . As for the the top i have no idea. I was thinking a tank top but then the triangle part of the shorts would have no use. I guess I could tuck it in but then would that look stupid? Everything else about it i would keep (the boots and the arms and the neck thing ) but im just having trouble with the top thanks. Please dont tell me to choose someone else I really want to be her

Were women more modest and men more like gentlemens back in the 20's, 30's, 40's and 50's?

I see 2 different worlds. That of today (reckless) and that of the 50s (modesty). Today young ladies feel a need to reveal as much as possible or bring attention to the breast area, verses the modesty of the 50's. The colorful vernacular of today was unheard of in public in the 50's and 60's. I have seen girls wearing the shortest possible skirts that were unthinkable in my days. Wearing thongs under a micro mini skirt. What is wrong with this picture? And the guys, well they are down right pigs.
Note: I wasn't trying to look, they were trying to expose. And if they don't have respect for themselves, why should I have respect for them and what they want to reveal.

My boyfriend wants me to dress more modestly. I need help?

We are both 20, in college, and have been dating for ~5 months.

We both come from conservative and religious families, but mine is less so than his. I dress pretty conservatively but I will occasionally wear a top that has a little peak of cleavage, or a dress or pair of shorts that are a little short (maybe ~3 inches above the knee, max).

For the majority of our relationship he hasn't said anything about my clothing. But within the last month he has asked me to dress even more modestly. He prefers that I wouldn't show any cleavage in my tops (even when bending over/crossing arms), that my hems are at/around my knees at the shortest, and that when I bend over my tops don't ride-up and show my bare lower back. He also asked that my bra/bra straps not be visible but I've already been really careful with that.

Now I've been trying hard to make it work, but at least half the time my outfit seems to upset him. It always seems silly too. Like we'll be cuddling and I'm literally in his lap in a weird position and he'll be mad that a little cleavage pops out of my shirt. Or I'll be in a high neckline top and long jeans in 85 degree weather and he'll be mad that when I bent over to pick up a pencil a sliver of my back showed briefly.

It's become really frustrating because I've never dated a guy that cared so much about this and it's starting to cause fights.

Do you guys think he's being a bit overly strict? Or is it reasonable what he is asking? Any tips? =\

I would like to wear the hijab to become more modest, but I'm not Muslim. What will people think?

You don’t have to be a Muslim to wear hijab, you just have to be a female. It’s not that you have to use burka or scurf you can do it with anything you can do as long as you fulfill the condition“And tell the believing women to reduce [some] of their vision and guard their private parts and not expose their adornment except that which [necessarily] appears thereof and to wrap [a portion of] their headcovers over their chests and not expose their adornment except to their husbands, their fathers, their husbands' fathers, their sons, their husbands' sons, their brothers, their brothers' sons, their sisters' sons, their women, that which their right hands possess, or those male attendants having no physical desire, or children who are not yet aware of the private aspects of women. And let them not stamp their feet to make known what they conceal of their adornment. And turn to Allah in repentance, all of you, O believers, that you might succeed.” (Quran 24:31)“O Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to bring down over themselves [part] of their outer garments. That is more suitable that they will be known and not be abused. And ever is Allah Forgiving and Merciful” (Quran 33:59)
