I Want To Have Unsold Magazines From Shops

Where can I find old magazines for free?

In my neighborhood, in recycling bins. You can also go to professional places (nurses, dentists, all the place where you have to wait and ask if you can get the old ones. Even offer in exchange to wash the windows….

Why do magazine subscriptions take so long to receive?

Even though they have your subscription and payment, the information still has to be entered into their data base. And it also depends on when they receive your subscription in relation to their mailing cycle. If they get your sub right after they mail the June issue, then it will be a month until they mail the next issue (July). Magazines are sent by second class mail, which is a relatively slow mail service, but it costs less than any other way they can mail. So all in all, 6 weeks is really about standard.

What do stores do with unsold magazines?

At Barnes and Noble, the old magazines are taken to the back room and the covers are stripped off. The covers are returned to corporate for partial credit and the rest of the magazines are recycled.

Why are magazines so expensive in the Republic of Ireland.?

The reason is because they simply can, Irish people (Irish woman) are willing to pay the inflated prices so therefore the prices remain inflated!

Most of the magazines, at least the most popular ones, are all British. They are not printed in Ireland and therefore there is an extra cost due to vat, imports, extra delivery costs etc. but in reality, they do charge ridiculous more expensive when compared to Britain.

Another point, British Magazines in Ireland, just like British Newspapers in Ireland (like the the irish daily mail, the irish mirror, irish star, irish sun... they are all British owned) dont really care about the irish market as it is so small. They make all there profits in the British market so whatever small profit they make in Ireland is a plus for them.

What does Goodwill do with donations they don't want?

In our area, there are three thresholds a donated product goes through.   The first threshold is for Goodwill's retail stores. If an item (clothes or household items) makes it into a store, it will remain there for 6-8 weeks. If it is not sold, it is pulled. The second threshold is for items not good enough for retail plus the items that have not been successfully sold in the retail store...these time are then processed at a Goodwill bargain outlet.  Here, the items are sold by the pound ($1.29) to the public.  More than half of the clothes and items sold at the outlet are resold again by the treasure hunters at local flea markets or online. Finally, the third threshold is taking all the leftovers (after three consumer tries) and then selling it to company that either shreds the clothes and creates new products or ships the clothing overseas.  The goal is to eliminate waste and trips to the dump.  In every event, all money raised goes into services that help train, retain, educate and then place people into new jobs in the community.  Goodwill has a national name but it's actual help is focused on the local community.

What happens to all those expensive magazines that grocery stores don't sell when they are current?

They are returned to the distributor for a credit.

The distributors send them to recycling.

At least that is what the magazine distributors I know of do...

What do they do with the newspapers that are not sold?

Retail outlets selling newspapers operate what is known as sale or return (this also applies to most magazines as well).  Basically what this means is that anything they do not sell will be refunded to them by their newspaper supplier, provided they return it.  The same van that drops off the stock every morning also picks up unsold copies from the previous day, and they are taken back.  The supplier then has the same arrangement with the newspaper publisher, and returns them for recycling. This makes great commercial sense for everyone.  From the supplier and retailer's point of view, they never want to have to tell a customer they're out of stock.  Sale or return means they can always ensure they have plenty to sell, without worrying about waste.  From the publisher's perspective, the last thing they want is a customer going in for their preferred daily newspaper, and buying a competitor's product because the shop is sold out of what they want.  The excess is then recycled, reducing their raw materials cost for subsequent print runs. (I work for a company that writes till, back office, and warehousing software for a number of different retailers and distributors.  News sales are a big part of our business)

What happens to all of the clothes after the fashion show is over?

So this question really piqued my interest (as I also had the same question but was never bothered enough to Google for it). And I did some online research and found the below answers. The samples used in fashion shows are also used before the show for "look books" photography, magazine editorials and advertising. After the show they travel to trade shows where retail buyers can examine the collection and make their orders, then they will travel to trunk shows at retail outlets, they can be used as sample displays in the designer's office and show room and they can also be used for displays in larger retail stores. A runway sample has a long and useful life. After they've done their job for the season they are often placed in storage so the design team can refer back to them for future collections. This will help the design team in future collections -for example they can see if this season's print blouse will coordinate with the color of last fall's pants and skirts. If you do like a garment on the runway you can ask -they will give you where to buy information. Often they will have more of it for sale at a retail store or they will make a copy for you to buy. Some places place samples on sale at the end of the season or a season or two later. Source: What happens to clothes that are used at fashion shows by models? Do they bin it after the fashion shows? - Yahoo AnswersQ: Do models get to keep the clothes after the show?A: No. A show is really just a preliminary introduction to the collection — the clothes are still needed for at least a few more months for sales, production, editorial, and celebrity-dressing purposes. Only after they are on sale in stores and the next collection has been shown can those older pieces be given away.  Source: 10 Shocking Truths About Fashion ShowsThe clothing at a fashion show is carefully put on and removed to keep it in perfect condition. High-profile pieces occasionally find their way into museums or are sold to benefit a charity. More often than not, the pieces are sold to the general public or simply given to a model. In some cases, the fashion pieces go into storage for later display during a minor event like a store opening. For example, they might be placed in a store window along with the year they were showcased and the name of the model who wore them.Source: What Happens at a Fashion Show?

How to Get a Self-Published Book in book stores.........?

I don't really know the world of poetry, but my husband has self-published a children's book. He got it in our local branch of Waterstones by going and talking to the Manager, they were very open to doing a little promotion for him as a 'local author'. He has also gone around local schools, talking about writing and how to write and the creative process and sold quite a few like that. He also registered his book so it is on Amazon, ABE books, and other online retailers. It is a lot of work and you have to be quite willing and able to promote yourself and your work.
