Sir, Does B.com give advantage in CA-IPCC over CPT clearer students?

Hi. There is a lot written about the subject by others which clearly points out why and why not of doing B.com. So I'll not go much deeper into it and would just like to say that from perspective of doing CA and its curriculum, while it would be wrong to say that B.Com will add no value, we can safely say that not doing B.Com will not do much harm to your CA preparations. IPCC curriculum and institute books are desiged to make you learn the basics as well as advanced aspects of Accounting, Costing, Taxation etc. It would not start with a higher level assuming that you know the basics. While lot of coaching institute presume and account for that in their teaching, but the fact is not so. If you read ICAI books, you find that they start with the basics and move on to higher level. However, if you need to brush up your basics, then you can use any B.com or commerce book to go through the elementary aspect before moving on to higher. Having said that, doing B.Com is not a bad option,  but it should not be the sole criteria to prepare for IPCC. While it clears your base, it takes three years to clear the course after which you can enrol for IPCC. Where as CPT can be much faster and easier entry to IPCC. You can do B.com and IPCC simultaneously and won't have to invest time in studying same thing twice. Now, looking from the wider world perspective, doing a graduation has lot of benefits. Firstly, one should be very clear that CA is a professional course and not a degree course. You'll not be a graduate if you haven't completed a degree course (I'll not go into the popularity and importance of these two course as it is not the question of discussio). Also, in case ever you want to study further, lets say MBA, then CA won't be accepted as a graduate degree but B.com would be. So to have a larger and wider vision, it helps you in long run in your career planning. However, do not base your decision of IPCC on B.com. All the best for your career. In case I have missed any detail, then please let me know so that I can incorporate it in my answer.

Is it better to do CA after BCom hons or with BCom hons?

It totally depends how u could manage ur studies and articleship.Option 1 : CA with BCOMGenerally those who does CA and BCOM together clear their CPT after 12th so mainly they have to manage their Ipcc studies and college.AdvantagesAs subjects are similar in BCOM and Ipcc so those college lecture could help u in ur Ipcc and u may need to join coaching for every subject. The biggest advantage is of ur articleship coz only student through campus placement got articleship in big 4 without reference.DisadvantageIt becomes very difficult for some students to manage their college and sometimes it takes several attempt to clear Ipcc. You can't do ur articleship with regular college so even if u pass Ipcc u will have to wait till completion of ur graduation.Option 2 : CA after BCOMAdvantagesSince u have already studied the concept in your BCOM so for Ipcc you just need practice and if u have good conceptual knowledge you can manage yous studies with office. You can better enjoy your college life which never comes back.In your BCOM u would got better understanding that after BCOM whether you should do CA or any other course believe me it is the biggest advantage coz you decide better than those who choose after 12th coz after 3 years of college you would have better knowledge of courses and u would know what u love to doDisadvantagesGenerally big 4 and other good firms don't appoint students through direct entry and main reason is Ipcc examsYou would enjoy ur college life but after joining CA your life could become hell for you coz you are going office and you also have to study for Ipcc and after Ipcc then it's final so life may become hell after collegeI have mention only some basic points, hope it would be helpful for you.You may ask some other questions

Can I register for the IPCC during the final year of a B.Com without CPT?

Yes. This is called provisional registration for CA-Intermediate course, which can be done in the final year of your graduation. The advantage of provisional registration is that once your exams are over, immediately you can undergo one month course of ICITSS and successfully complete the same.By the time you complete ICITSS, your graduation results will also come.Immediately thereafter you can convert provisional registration into regular registration, and then join 3 years article ship under a practising Chartered Accountant. If you donot get provisional registration, and wait for regular registration, then your article ship will get deferred, as you can join article ship only after successfully completing one month course on ICITSS.Candidates seeking article ship in Bengaluru, Chennai, Gangavaram, Kakinada, Krishnapatnam, Palayamkottai, Neyveli, Tuticorin or Vijayawada can send their resume to the email id indicated in my profile.

How do you manage B.Com and CA simultaneously? Like study schedule during regular college and articleship.

Hi there, my younger one is a CA and he did attend regular classes for http://B.com and tuitions for CA along with full time articleship. It is indeed a tough life to live atlesst for the a couple of years until you granduate. Having said that your hard work will pay off once you are a CA.Being the elder one I was a the one motivating him every day as I myself knew 2 years with 16 hrs a day schedule would be an uphill task. His day used to start at 5 AM i the morning, had no other option but to attend morning college, which starts at 6:30 AM and gets over at 10:30 AM, office {Articleship} started at 11:00 AM till 5:30 PM, then 2 CA coaching from 06:00 PM to 08:00 PM and 08:15 to 10:15 PM.Its easier said then done, though it was just for 2 years, but everyday looked like a new battle. There’s something I advised him & I would advise every CA aspirant reading this answer. I am an Entrepreneur, not a CA, but because of my foreign branches I am consulting one of the best CA in town. Mandatory articleship would not only give you more learning then the curriculum but would also prepare you to be one amongst the best, dont even think of getting a dummy. If you riding on luck you might clear the exams in first attempt, but once you get hired you’ll make a mockery out of yourself in front of everyone. There’s just one thing sure about Luck, it would run out some day.CA is by far one of the toughest course, do justice to the degree with struggle.Remember “THE MORE YOU SWEAT IN PRACTICE, LESS YOU BLEED IN THE BATTLE FIELD”BEST OF LUCK !!

Does Doing B.Com benefits a CA?

Thanks for A2A!Every CA student opts for b.com as a side course along with CA.The main reasons are as follows: Ca is a risky course i.e. there is no gurantee for becoming a CA even after lots of hard work. At the time of joining the course, you never know whether you'll be able to complete it or not (very different from engineering & medical degree, where if u once clear the entrance, you are guranteed to pass either by hook or crook ).B.COM is a easy course i.e. if one has studied IPC, he can clear B.com (full) without even opening the book.Bachelor's degree is also required to appear for competitive exams & post graduate degrees (like mba)No attendance issues in colleges. Most of the ca students go only on the examination day of the college. There is no other such benifit doing b.com. But on a safer side, its good to join.
