I Went To School In Texas In A Very Small Rural Town. My Education Is Horrible Where Do I Go

Should I move out of state during my senior year in high school?

It might make a difference for college. Doesn't CAL give their HS grads free instate tuition at state schools? I know NM does, but WI does NOT. Check that out, as that can be HUGE. WISC is a much smaller state with more rural sensibilities (hunting) which has 13 state universities, with UW-Madison one of the best schools in the country. Their other schools are medium-sized schools where you can obtain a good education, but 2nd and 3rd tier. WI gives reduced tuition to instate residents and has reciprocal agreements with MN. College Admission standards for the best schools, Berkley, Madison, will be very similar as they recruit nationally.

It's very difficult moving in your senior year, particularly as you're almost 1/2 of the way through the school year. It can be done and can be a growth process, and prepare you for going off to college, but it can be a lonely, difficult time, moving then. You need to be outging, gregarious and willling to make the first move to make friends. Are you deeply involved at your school? Are you in sports, clubs, student leadership? Are you likely to get some awards? If yes, I'd say Stay, but if NO, then the move should make little difference in your prospects.

Best of luck making this difficult decision!

Can you tell me a little bit 'bout educational system in America? What I need to do to become a good student?

Not all US high schools are as bad as that other poster made them out to be. I should know, I went to one. The problem most of the bad schools have isthat they are filled with stupid poor people. Avoid inner city schools.

In general what you want to do to be a good student is just make the teachers think you are trying hard. If you do that they will grade you easier and give you the benfit of the doubt in most circumstances.
Yes, you shoucl participate in extracurricular activities. They look good on applications and they keep you busy so you dont fall in with a crowd of drug addict losers.

Is Texas A&M a good school?

Texas A & M is an outstanding school, and it's one of the few in the country with a veterinary program. My daughter has visited there several times and is thinking of attending there next year.

College Station, where Texas A&M is located, is rather far from a major city, but it's a good-sized town in itself. Because it is primarily a college town, there is a lot of activity and night life.

Good luck with your studies!

Choosing to go to law school over my relationship?

I am a first generation college graduate who has always dreamed of becoming an criminal prosecuting attorney. I graduated last May, postponing higher education because of personal family matters. I have since become a full time employee at a police academy near where I graduated college.

My boyfriend and I live together in a small townhome in the same city I graduated from college. We both hate it here. I have begun preparing for the LSAT, and am looking into what schools to apply to. The University of Texas School of Law has always been my first choice law school for many reasons. It's a Tier 1 law school with plenty of positive notoriety. It's much closer to my family, who now lives in Texas instead of Virginia, where we live now. It's affordable, offers public service scholarships, and is in an area I always wanted to live.

He's a wonderful man who has already pledged to spend the rest of his life with me. There is a 10 year age difference, but we hardly notice. I am an old soul! He's from the north, and has expressed that he has no interest in following me to Texas. He also works in public service (a police officer) where his income is limited, but his job opportunities abundant across the country. He wanted to move back to his home state, where there are also several other law schools (not necessarily known for the type of law I want to practice) and settle down near his family. He wants me to choose a law school based on where we can both agree to spend the rest of our lives together.

I can't choose a law school based on that.

I am torn between choosing to further my education and chase my dreams or to choose a family life with a man I love very much. Do women really have to choose between a family and career still? Does anyone have any personal life experience that might help me find direction?

What do you like about living in a small town?

Small towns are awesome because you can find so much peace and quiet in them. However, every single thing you hear about everyone knowing your business is absolutely true. Its just one of the things you have to accept with small town living. There will be some culture shock too for sure, but your kids should be just fine.
