There are other types, but these are the main types.PTFE, with its low friction, is ideal for those with tight teeth; it can slip between the tight contact points & get out the gunk. PTFE is also shred proof.Nylon is more ‘shred resistant’ than shred proof, but the advantage of Nylon is that its’ high friction cleans closer to the tooth enamel, cutting through the oral plaque. What is it like to live in Aiken, SC?
To answer your second question first, yes, it is a nice place to live. I've been here for almost eight years now and have really fallen in love with this little town.To answer the first question, it's complicated. There are 3 major contributors to the Aiken economy, as I see it: the Site, the retirees, and the horse folk. The horse people, which includes the "Winter Colony" who spend summers elsewhere, most consistently have the most money. They really help bolster the arts and entertainment scene and are less susceptible to variations caused by the larger economy. They are the customers at the nicer restaurants and high-end boutiques, as well as personal services.Retirees form a large portion of Aiken's population. The city has been actively recruiting people to move here, and it's worked pretty well. Many of them have a good deal of disposable income, and the volunteer time this group puts in has helped make Aiken a wonderful place to live in many ways. But the retirees are very susceptible to price fluctuations, since many are living on fixed incomes. They are the customers at pretty much any mid-level business you can think of.Finally, the Savannah River Site, which includes the Savannah River National Lab, is the area's largest employer. It employs a lot of professionals, many with Masters and PhD's. These are your middle-class and upper-middle-class folk. When times are good, they keep the local economy humming. But keep in mind they are all government employees, so when there's a federal employee pay freeze or budget issues, they tighten their purse strings. The government shutdown definitely hurt Aiken as many people had to be furloughed.One other group I should mention are the Original Aikenites. These are people who have grown up in Aiken and still live here. That there are so many of them attests to the fact that this is a great little town to live in. But they grew up driving to Augusta to do all their shopping, because Aiken used to be a lot smaller than it is now. And they still mostly drive to Augusta to shop because it's what they're used to. So if you're opening a business, convincing long-time locals to buy local might have to be part of your marketing strategy.
