The US Constitution prohibits democracy through the 9th and 10th amendments in the Bill of Rights, which say that the Federal government is limited only to the powers specifically granted in the Constitution. This is to prevent a majority of the population from imposing some kind of tyranny on a minority, which is exactly what democracy does.But, just to be clear, the Centauri Republic in Babylon 5 or other shows is not an endorsement of the Republican Party, per se. The GOP is no more pro-republic than the Democratic party is pro-democracy. The Democratic Party hates democracy, even though it uses the word a lot for PR purposes. For example, in the 2016 primaries the Democratic Party actually undermined the popular vote. Their corrupt system throws out six million primary voters and replaces them with a few thousand Democratic Party Elite, the “super delegates”, who end up actually deciding who is nominated.This is why when Bernie Sanders was winning the popular vote for the nomination, the Democratic Party-controlled media described Clinton as winning, robbing Sanders of the momentum that would have carried him to a nomination. The DNC and media were counting the Super Delegates, overriding the democratic majority who preferred Sanders.
