If I Am A Social Security Survivor Do I Get The Money Or Does My Mom

Social security survivor benefits?

Now that you are age 18 they automatically come in your name because you are an adult. However they are still being sent to the same account. If you want to receive the money directly you will have to set up an account in your own name and let social security know your account # and bank routing #.

You will continue to receive benefits as long as you are unmarried and a full-time high school student. Benefits will end when you graduate or when you attain age 19 and two months - whichever comes first.

The Social Security sends my mom money because my dad stopped paying child support. I’m 17 years old. If I start working, will Social Security stop sending my mom money?

I agree with the previous answer. The social security money that comes in is 1) your mom is on disability or 2) your dad is on disability. When you turn 18 that money will stop.If dad owes back support your mom needs to talk to the child support collection agency about what she can do to keep the case open after you turn 18 to keep money coming in to be applied to arrearages.

Social security "survivor" benitifts question?

The money is to be used for the *benefit* of the survivors. In other words, to provide you with what you need to live an adequate life, even without financial support from your deceased family member: food, clothing, shelter, heat, electricity, school supplies, etc.

This isn't just extra money that your mom is wasting or hoarding. This is *family* income -- and she's in charge of the family budget, so she gets to decide what it's used for.

Can parents receive Social Security survivor benefits if their child dies? What then happens to that inheritance?

First, one pays into social security by working and paying social security tax. Therefore most Children (under the age of 16) have not make any contributions to the Social Security system. Then, once the child is an Adult, the survivor benefits go to the family members for whom the person who died was responsible for. That would be the dead person’s children who need support until they are adults. However, and here is where I am no expert, if a person has parents who are under the age of 62 and those parents for some reason are Dependents of their adult “child” and can be claimed as dependents on the person’s Federal Income Tax forms, then it is “possible”. But that would be a rare situation. If you have a “child” who is 30 years old, and who dies after having worked for ten years and making contributions to the social security system, the parents would get Nothing and there is No social security “inheritance”. Indeed, the social security money merely is paid in by workers and paid out to those who collect social security on an annual basis. There is no real investment portfolio that I am aware of.

How do I get my deceased mom’s Social Security, because she has money owed to her?

If your mother truly has an underpayment of Social Security benefits (money still owed to her), it can be paid to the next of kin. You will need to contact Social Security and complete a form SSA-1724. The underpayment is first paid to the surviving spouse. If none, then to surviving children. This means if you have siblings, the money due is divided equally among all of you.You will need to provide your birth certificate to prove that you are her child, and your ID. You will also need the addresses of each of your siblings.I’m not sure how you know she has money owed to her. Let me state here that many people feel that money is owed when it actually isn’t. An example that frequently comes up is this: A person passes away on June 30th. The Social Security check that arrives on July 3rd has to be returned because she isn’t alive to negotiate it. This is NOT an underpayment. This is because a person must be entitled every moment of the month to get that month’s payment. She wasn’t alive the entire month of June, so the check that came in July isn’t due and won’t be repaid. Now if this same person passed away July 1st, then the check that came July 3rd is for the month of June, and is payable to survivors. Again, I don’t know your situation, but hope this helps.

Is a divorced woman entitled to her ex-husband's social security?

If she has not remarried..then she may indeed be eligible for half of his SS. She was his partner. If she has not paid into enough of her own because she was supporting his career and raising his children..then depending on the states laws she may have a claim..to his 401k too!

Have her see a lawyer ASAP.

If she is entitled..she needs to make sure she is protected. If she is not..then she needs to start making plans!

Will social security ask unused survivor benefits back?

I know that my daughter was receiving benefits because I have social security, and then SHE died....I went to the Soc Sec office to ask them if I was supposed to send money back since it was already the 24th of the month, and do you know what they told me?
THEY SAID THEY ALREADY WENT INTO HER BANK ACCOUNT AND TOOK ALL THE MONEY THAT WAS IN THERE. Then they asked me for the rest, but I told them, it was the 24th of the month,
so she had obviously already paid her rent for the month. They made
ME bring them the rest of the money or else they were going to put a freeze on MY bank account. Unbelievable.

EXPECT ANYTHING, AND BE PREPARED TO PAY THE MONEY BACK. FIND OUT BEFORE YOU BUY A HOUSE BECAUSE THEY CAN TAKE THE HOUSE IF YOU "OWE" THEM ANYTHING.

If you are able, then go to a social security lawyer before you do
anything like buying property. PROTECT YOURSELF.

Social security benefits for a 18 year old?

As long as your mother is keeping the money FOR you, then leave it be. Are you an immigrant or something? This is the immigration board.

My one friend thought she loved this one creepy guy. She later found out he had spent 2 yrs in jail for drugs and assault and he sweet-talked her out of every pay check for 9 months. The whole while she kept covering up for him until he got some other girl pregnant and took off with the cash he stole and lots of her stuff.

You might be the last one to know your bf is shady because love is blind.

I thought you had to PROVE you were a full time student each year with the college in order for the govt to pay you. They just don't take people's word for things.

Should my mom claim my deceased father’s Social Security payments?

Here’s more information from me (the person asking the question):My father recently passed. He earned about $100,000 for over two decades. He is eligible for his maximum SS payments. He was 64 at time of death. He had not started taking his payments. He was still fully employed. My mom earned far less. My father owned a business, which my mother now runs and owns. She is now earning her old salary and his. She plans to run the business for the next 10 years and then sell it and retire. What is the best strategy for her?Should she give me the salary, retire and start taking his SS payments, and I gift her money if she needs it each month? Of should she continue to earn his and her salary for the next 10 years and then decide whether she takes her SS or his (whichever will be higher)?
