Don't listen to people who say that this won't make you lose weight, because you will. If your diet is bad now, and you switch to a good one, that alone WILL make you drop weight.
But still, try to exercise! Do the small things, run an errand, walk to a friends house, walk to/from school! Keep also in mind that if you do exercise, that generally means that your body will need more calories.
1200 calories is a good number, and will result in rapid weight loss, if you do it correctly.

Please check your Basal Metabolic Rate, which is basically what you burn in calories while at rest. Knowing that number, you have two ways to lose weight.
1. If the number is acceptable, you can eat healthy balanced meals, and try not to exceed it.

2. If not you need to try to increase it by adding a good choice of food. Exercise is not your thing? Not a problem, you may try for example to park your car a bit away from the places you want to reach and walk there.

My final advice, if you are not happy with your weight, you need to change your health lifestyle. Start to do things that are both fun and healthy to you. Things that you can keep on doing all your life. For example, I wouldn't spend 15 min exercising but I would gladly walk for an hour in nature.

As someone said, eating less tends to make you lose muscle mass aswell as fat. You could try eating a lot of protein, but still only 1200 calories, but it still isn't healthy, as your not eating a well rounded diet.

But eating less in the short term doesn't help to lose much without exercise.

So if your going for the figure look, it is best to get some exercise in there.

Although, it doesn't mean busting yourself at the gym. Walking to and from work could be an option. Around an hours walking a day should burn off the calories aswell as a reasonable diet (just cut out the junk food and things you know aren't healthy).

That should help you get in better shape, maybe few pounds a week.

Although, don't fret if you don't see the pounds falling off instantly. It can take a while for metabolism to speed up to help you lose weight.

Just make sure your eating decently, and cut out the things you don't need.

Yes, but you will also kill yourself. That's only 600 calories a day to live on, which isn't enough.

The average man needs about 2400 calories a day. The average woman needs about 2000 calories a day. That's the number of calories you need every day to live and not put on weight. For a real couch potato who doesn't do any exercise it's about 400 less than that!

Just dropping to 1200 calories a day would give you an 800 calorie a day deficit if you are a woman, or 1200 a day for a man. That's 5600 a week for a woman or 8400 for a man. As it takes a 3500 calorie deficit to burn 1 pound of fat, you would lose rate at about 1.5-2.0 pounds a week.

Adding in 600 calories exercise a day is just too much. The body can't survive with only 600 left.
If you are doing 600 a day exercise you should be eating at least 1500 calories a day. Trying to lose much more than 2 pounds a week isn't safe or sensible.

If I eat, let's say, 1000 calories a day will I still lose weight without exercise? I think it would be so much easier on me because of my busy day-to-day schedule. It's hard to fit in exercise.

1200 calorie is considered a low calorie diet and you will lose weight even if you don't do exercise with this diet. (Not that I would recommend any diet without exercise)
With a 1200 calorie diet, you are also able to cover most of your nutritional needs if you plan your meals well.
How much will you lose and how fast? This really depends on your age/height/activity level. Because this will determine your calorie needs.

As an example; If your calorie needs are 1700 calories per day and you reduce your diet to 1200 per day, you are consuming 500 calories less than your body uses.

This means you will lose 0.5kg per week as a result. (500 calories x 7 days = 3500 calories. 1kg=7000 calories.)

A good plan is recommended to be able to do this on a long term and to ensure you stay motivated and healthy.
