If I Have Internet Service At My House With Wifi Do I Have To Get A Data Plan For A Cell Phone If

Can a mobile phone hotspot replace my usual WiFi internet service?

You have MetroPCS. If you have their unlimited data plan at $60 a month, you get 8 GB of hotspot. Each additional GB is $5. If you are going to be using your hotspot as your home internet source, then streaming on a device (like your smart tv) or playing video games or computer games is gonna eat up your data real quick; especially if more than one person that will be using that as a source of internet.By the way it's gonna be much slower than internet provided by the cable provider. Example: Comcast’s 50 Mbps compared to your hopeful 6 Mbps; so games are gonna be laggy, and streaming on your TV might have to be reduced to shit resolution to conserve data and not be constantly buffering. With MetroPCS on their $60 unlimited plan you actually get 28 Gbs of 4G LTE and 8 Gbs hotspot and that's only when the network isn't congested because T-Mobile customers take priority over MetroPCS customers. When the network is congested you go down to their EDGE network which is below 3G speeds. This is all assuming you have their most expensive plan. If not you get much less 4G LTE speeds on your phone for a month and much less data for hotspot use.I don't know your financial situation but if you are low income or have food stamps many internet companies provide low cost internet. They don't advertise much, so you have to really look for it on Google, if you call the internet provider the sales rep probably will not know of the program (as many of the ‘customer service’ numbers you call are sales reps from third party companies, these reps don't make commission on these sales so they often don't know of the program)I know AT&T if available in your area will provide internet for $5 or $10 a month if you qualify for even one dollar worth of food stamps. I use thisfor my home. The number to speak to a representative that is trained about the program is 1-855-220-5211.Hope this helped.

Do I need an internet provider to use wifi?

Your internet and your network are two separate things. Your internet must be provided by an ISP (Internet Service Provider,) which is usually a monthly fee, otherwise the network you create will only allow you to connect to other devices connected to your network via either ethernet cable or wifi. (An ethernet cable being that thing that kinda looks like a bigger version of an old phone line cable. It carries the connections between computers and such inside your home, and is basically the wired version of wifi.) To my knowledge, there is no way to legally get permanent internet from a provider, and no way to get internet at all without one.Once you have your internet connection from your ISP, make sure you get either a modem/router/wifi access point combo, or any form of those three. The modem part is needed to get the internet into your network (as it will likely be brought into your space of living through a coaxial cable and not an ethernet cable at first.) The router is needed to control what information goes to which devices that are connected to the network, so that you don’t send the information for your download to the wrong device. The wifi access point is needed to actually send and receive the wifi signal to and from your devices. A lot of devices advertised as routers are all three combined, but it is generally a good idea to make sure what you get is everything you need because it is still possible to get them all as separate devices and it would really suck to think you’re getting everything you need only to get home and find out that you only bought a router. Also check what comes with your internet package as some ISP’s do provide modem/router/access point combos with their internet.

How can i get wifi without having an internet service provider?

Not legally. You must have internet service through a provider unless you steal your neighbors connection.

How can you get WiFi without internet?

You buy a wireless router and power it up. By default, most home wireless routers are manufactured with WiFi enabled. The WiFi network name (SSID) and pass phrase should either be on the router’s label or in the user guide. There should also be a password that will allow you to log on to the router’s settings and change them, including changing the WiFi name and encryption details. Changing WiFi settings is best done from a PC connected by Ethernet. If you change WiFi settings over a WiFi connection and make a mistake, you may not be able to use the WiFi until the error is corrected. The ports on the router that normally provide the connection to the Internet are left unused.

Does letting a computer use my phone's mobile hotspot wifi internet use data from my data plan?

If your phone is connected through local wifi, then you won't be charged (unless you don't have unlimited internet). If it's connected through Edge (2G), 3G, or 4G, then it will use your phone's data plan.

Do phones need service to connect to wifi?

So my girlfriend gave me a new phone without service and I have been trying to connect to the internet. No matter what wifi I try it always says "Saved, secured." It will show it says connecting for a split second and stop. I don't want service, I just want to use wifi. Does anybody know a fix?

Do I need wifi on my phone if I have an unlimited data plan?

"Do I need wifi on my phone if I have an unlimited data plan?" No, but you may want it at a later time.

You may want it though, as WiFi data is generally much faster than over-cell-tower data, which would be a helpful thing if you have large items that you are downloading to the phone.

On top of that, not every location will have adequate signal to get a high speed data connection, which means that without WiFi, you may not have data access on your phone.

By the way, what plan do you plan on going with?

Some prepaid carriers that advertise unlimited data, such as Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile, and certain Straight Talk/Net10 models have limited coverage across the USA, and without WiFi ability, the phone is useless when roaming. Some prepaid carriers that offer "unlimited" data, such as Straight Talk and Net10 (both owned by the same Mexican company, America Movil) have harsh limits on data and what you can use the data with. For example, Straight Talk forbids tethering, streaming of video, and extended data sessions, routinely disconnecting phones and accounts for violation their vague Terms of Service (ToS).

Can you use Roku without the internet?

Yes. The only device that needs to be connected to the internet is the Roku, itself. If you have a Roku Stick model, it will connect via your WiFi and get power from either an available USB port on your tv, or connected to a power adapter. If your Roku isn’t a Stick model, it may have an Ethernet port. If it does, it’s always preferable to wire it to your router. If not, all Roku models can connect wirelessly.
