If I Want To Change My Last Name Will My Dad Have To Sign

I would like to change my family name and take my dad's grandmother's name. Is this possible? If not, is it possible to take my mother's family name?

You can legally, if you live in America (if not check with your government and discern this suggestion), change your full name to whatever you want once you’re of age (18 years old). For instance, if your name was Joan Smith, you could change your name to something else through you local Embassy or City Hall.So I’m saying: you can change your last name to anything you want. It doesn’t matter as long as you have the legal rights :)Check with your local government if you don’t live in America.

Can i change my 4 month baby last name ?

If you are the custodial parent, you will not need your husband's/ex husband's/baby daddy's approval for any decisions regarding your child although I can see why you wouldn't want your child carry that jerk's name...however...you *may* need the father's permission to change the child's last name since now it is on there - unless you have him sign over parental rights beings it seems like he isn't likely to be concerned with helping you raise him anyway.

Is there an adult that you can speak with? Maybe your social worker at the welfare office or something?

I need my dad's ssn to change my last name but he will not give it to me?

I don't know why you need to provide your father's ssn to get a name change on your card. All you should need is your marriage license and an ID. Have you talked directly with your local Social Security Office about this matter?

If you need to change your name on your Social Security card, you must show us a recently issued document as proof of your legal name change. Documents Social Security may accept to prove a legal name change include:

* Marriage document;
* Divorce decree;
* Certificate of Naturalization showing a new name; or
* Court order for a name change. .

If the document you provide as evidence of a legal name change does not give us enough information to identify you in our records or if you legally changed your name more than two years ago, you must provide Social Security with additional documentation.

Marriage, divorce or annulment: In addition to showing us a legal document proving your marriage, divorce or annulment, you must provide an identity document. That document must show your old name, as well as other identifying information or a recent photograph. (We can accept an expired document as evidence of your old name.)

How does a 15 year old change her last name?

If you ask your Mom to get a petition with you and for her to sign it, and tell the judge WHY you are doing it (if you want to).

I am sure a judge will gladly change your name. I am sure your Mom will too.

How do i change my last name to my father's?

You have to go through your state to legally change your name. When it is changed, you have to notify the IRS, Social Security, DMV, school, work, bank, credit cards, friends and probably more.

This is a sample of one. Just search on your state and name change to find the right site.

How do we change my stepson's last name to mine?

Does she have visitation or any type of support in place? If so, she may have to get his permission to change it. That's where I'm stuck. Same situation but he will not agree to it. If that ends up being your case to, you can put your name as an alias with his school. You can request that he is called by your last name. I have a friend who did that and she was actually able to put her new last name on her driver's license when she turned 16 and they never legally changed it!! Also, you can file a request for minor name change with the court and for the reason, put down that you want his name changed in order to prevent confusion and embarassment for your son. They consider that a valid excuse. Chances are, they may set a court date and if his "dad" doesn't show up to protest it they will probably grant it. Good luck and thanks for asking this question. You reminded me that I need to get on it with my son's name!!

And no, you don't have to adopt him. I don't know what these other people are talking about. You are legally allowed to change a name to anything you want, as long as it's not for fraudulent purposes. Just file the change of name papers and it should be no problem.

Legally change last name to mother's maiden name?

I have an absentee father whom I have no relationship with and have not seen nor spoken to since I was a preteen (I'm not in my mid 20s). He chose to not be active in my life and I have had no contact and do not plan on any. I have his last name and my mother, who has never remarried, kept his name so that we would both share the same name. I always hated having his last name as to me I see no reason to carry it. I consider my grandfather my dad as he was the one who raised me like a daughter from the time I was a baby. My mom wanted to change my last name to her maiden name when I was a child but didn't want kids to ask questions about it though I went to school with a few kids who had their names changed to their step-dad's last name. She also did want to involve my father who would have to sign away his paternal rights but wouldn't to be spiteful. I will be getting married probably within the next few years so my name will change anyway but to me it is more then a name. I still wish to legally change my last name to my mom's maiden, also my grandpa's last name, as I had always wanted to do this plus I would like my children to say their mom's maiden name as my grandpa's and not my biological father's. My mother and boyfriend support me and she is going to go back to her maiden name as well. What do u all think?
