If I have a PayPal business account do I have to claim taxes as though I actually have a business?
I sell through ebay (clothes, things laying around my house, etc.) just silly things... I want to upgrade to a business account b/c I had an issue with someone stalking me when they saw my name (my first and last name show up when they pay me) I want the business account only so I can type in a "business" name and not my personal name... but if I sign up for the business account does that mean I will have to claim what little money I make throughout the year, on my taxes? You can't really get diapers in "bulk" unless you are willing to purchase from a distributor - and place a minimum order of $10,000. You can, however, get a large case of Pampers Swaddlers (216 count) for around $35 at Babies R Us, and some grocery stores (Publix.) You can get a case of generic diapers for much less, but many people are turned off when they find out you've used a generic to build the diaper cake. I would use a name brand (Pampers, Huggies, Luvs.) Make sure you get a business license, then go get a State Reseller Tax Exempt Number, which will allow you to purchase your supplies without paying sales tax (saving you lots of $$.) Your best bet for baby items other than diapers, is to go to a local retailer (like a Target or a grocery store) present your business card to the store manager, and explain that you would like to make arrangements to buy all your supplies from their store. Yes you should file a Schedule C to report the income and expenses from the operation of the business, if you make $400 or more. Anything less than $400 can be reported on the "other income" line on the 1040. Since you have to report the income you should report the expenses as well. ALL income must be reported; there is no "it's a hobby" limit of $5,000. If it is declared a hobby by the IRS you are allowed to deduct expenses up to the income you receive from the activity.

Why do all the poor countries make clothes?
Their pay scale and tax base is a lot lower than anywhere in the U.S.. For us, if we were offered $2 per hour for the job, we would tell them "take this job and shove it". For the poor countries, $2/hour is a very good wage. Also those third world countries might offer tax incentives to locate their factories there where as the U.S. might not offer any incentives. The profit margin is much greater in those countries than here in the states. Another example: It is cheaper to send raw steel making material to Japan to make and ship it back to the U.S. than to have it made here. Doesn't make sense.
