If My Hair Is Usually Dry Can I Go Without Shampooing It As Often

How often should I shampoo and condition my hair?

Hi, One should shampoo their hair every alternative day if they have an oily scalp that is prone to oily dandruff and once every two days if the scalp isn't too oily. The function of a shampoo is to clean your scalp and also hair of any dirt or grease that accumulates in the scalp eventually. If You Use a shampoo that has the ingredient Sodium Laureth Sulfate i.e SLS or SLES then you should never skip Conditioner. SLES makes the hair squeaky clean and also strips off its own natural oils that are important for nourishing the hair and making it softer, so then when this oil is stripped, conditioning the hair is very important. A lot of people use mild shampoos or Ayurvedic recipes to shampoo their hair that do not have SLES that strips off the natural oil, in that case one may condition their hair whenever it feels dry to touch. Conditioners basically help in returning some of the moisture that the SLES took away in the shampooing process so that the hair do not become immensely dry and coarse. To Impart that " soft and smooth " feeling to the hair conditioners usually contain silicones as their ingredients.  That is however, an entirely different topic. If you still wish to know more about Silicones in conditioners you may check the following link. Silicones Decoded: What are Silicones? Hope it helps,Regards.

How often should I shampoo my hair?

I'm a 16 year old male athlete and I have practice everyday. I workout in morning and practice during school. I have been washing my hair with shampoo every morning. I don't use a conditioner. A hour or so after I use shampoo I can hit my hair or rub it and flakes fall out and it's really embarrassing. I have dry scalp. Any advice? Should I just wash it with water and only shampoo a few times a week? If I don't shampoo will it hurt to get a conditioner? And if I only use water how do I make my hair smell good? My friend recommend using tea tree shampoo and conditioner. Is that a good one to use for my situation? If it matters I have curly hair but it's not that long. Thanks!

Can I shampoo my oily hair everyday?

Yes. the build up of oil and grease is unhealthy for your scalp. And at the root of healthy hair is a healthy scalp. and oily scalp is what makes hair oily. A build up of oil can lead to skin irritation, dandruff and other fungal infections, falling hair, thinning strands and more. A clean scalp is a healthy scalp. A healthy scalp is a happy scalp and a happy health scalp grows healthy, happy hair.

An oily scalp is far unhealthier for the hair than washing every day. Oil will hold dirt, dead skin flakes, sweat and more close to your scalp. You don't clear up oily greasy skin on the face by not washing it for a week and allowing your face to "acclimatize" to an oily build up -you know that after a week you would have clogged pores, blackheads, break outs and a very dirty greasy face. The same oil that clogs the pores on your face is being produced by your scalp. It's just as bad on your scalp as it is on your face. one of my BFF"s is a doctor (dermatologist) and since this whole fad of less hair washing started up she's seeing more scalp skin problems than ever before. She had one "no-poo" girl come in with the worst acne she's ever seen all over her face and her scalp.

Use a dandruff shampoo that is made for oily hair. My son has an extremely oily scalp and uses Head and Shoulder Citrus Breeze because he found it's the only thing that really works. Use the dandruff shampoo close to the roots and scalp, where the oil is. Don't use on the middle or ends of the hair. Use a conditioner on the ends to protects them and keep them from drying out but don't use conditioner near the scalp. You absolutely can use two different products on the different areas of your hair. You can also use leave in conditioners or oil-based styling products on the ends to keep them moisturized without the need to using oils near the scalp. It's best if you keep all oils and other styling products away from the scalp while you have an oil problem.

Is it bad to wet your hair without washing it?

Water if its clean and not overly chlorinated will do no harm to your hair.Standing under the shower with water running through your hair will take off dust and soluble salt secretions. It will not take out what got trapped by oily secretions from the sebaceous glands. It will also remove dead skin and dandruff to a limited extent. It is recommended to shampoo your hair occasionally. Excessive usage of chemical products can actually damage your hair and scalp. In conclusion: No harm in regularly standing under the showerand getting your hair wet. Don't forget to shampoo at least once a week.I don't think the likes of Proctor & Gamble and Unilever will like my advice. They'd rather you shampoo twice a day or it will affect their health (financial health that is ).

Will my hair smell with dry shampoo?

If I have oily hair, can I shampoo daily?

Even I experienced the same problem when I was using shampoo, the very next day of shampooing the hair, it becomes greasy, I changed many shampoos but there was no result. I came to know that if you wash your hair everyday with shampoo it strips off the natural oils and makes the scalp feel dry, and it leads to more oil production on scalp and makes your hair greasy.I gave natural ingredients a chance and they are working great. All I do is I soak a few reetha and shikaki pods in water in the night and take off the seeds and grind it in mixer and wash my hair with it. Even after 3 or 4 days my hair is not greasy. This is not a new, this has been used for ages in India and people had long, thick and dark hair.SOAPNUTS OR REETHASHIKAKAI2 Home Remedies To Get Rid Of OILY And GREASY HAIRI am also following one of these home remedies.I boil tea leaves and strain water and after it becomes warm I apply it on scalp and wash it off with home made shampoo. This has also helped me a lot in getting rid of oily hair.If you are using this home made shampoo you can shampoo your hair everyday, I also apply oil before day so that it conditions my hair.
