If You Have 2 Middle Names How Do You Put Spaces In Between The Middle Initials

How to write 2 middle initials?

Mary K. P. Smith would be the correct form.

However, it's not unknown (with a name like Smith) for a person to join the last two names together to make something approximating a double barrelled surname.

Mary K. Patrice Smith (known formally as Miss M.K. Patrice Smith)

How can I remove a middle initial from a name in Excel?

Assuming all of the cells are in the format 'First M Last' with one and only one middle name you could use a formula such as this to return 'First Last' from cell A1:=LEFT(A1,SEARCH(" ",A1)) & RIGHT(A1,LEN(A1)-SEARCH(" ",A1,SEARCH(" ",A1)+1))If the input cells are in different formats (e.g. to cope with any number of middle initials including zero) then you'd need more complex logic which would become unwieldy and most likely require a custom function to be written in VBA like this one for example:Function FirstAndLast(FullName As String) As StringDim i As Integer, Spaces() As Integer, CountSpaces As IntegerDim First As String, Last As StringFor i = 1 To Len(FullName)    If Mid(FullName, i, 1) = " " Then        CountSpaces = CountSpaces + 1        ReDim Preserve Spaces(CountSpaces - 1)        Spaces(CountSpaces - 1) = i    End IfNext iFirst = Left(FullName, Spaces(LBound(Spaces)) - 1)Last = Mid(FullName, Spaces(UBound(Spaces)))FirstAndLast = First & LastEnd FunctionThis would work for varying numbers of middle initials e.g.Stephen King would return Stephen KingRaymond E Feist would return Raymond FeistGeorge R R Martin would return George MartinT S Eliot would return T Eliot.

Having two middle names after marriage?

I did this and honestly, I would not do it that way again. It's a pain in the rear. American systems are not set up to accomodate two middle names. Yes, I put both in the middle name box for the SS card. That was fine. But when I got to the DMV they gave me a hard time and said I had to hypenate my maiden name and new last name (which I was not going to do). They finally made it the way I want it but my four names are so long that they don't fit on one line on my drivers license.

The bank, my credit cards, etc, they don't know what to do with two middle initials. If you do the four name thing, choose just one middle initial. If I had it to do over, I would have dropped my middle name entirely. I considered changing it again three months after I changed it the first time but I felt like a fool so I didn't.

Don't mean to be a downer - it is your name so do what you like!

Edited to add:
lunchbox, my middle name is the same as my favorite grandmother's and she's no longer alive so I wanted to preserve it as well. My middle name is also really nice with my first (my parents did a good job!). I think what bugs me most about the four names is the way I went about changing it. I was insistent that I had two middle names and thus two middle initials. But as I said, places and computer systems are not really set up for that so the way my name appears on my accounts is not consistent at all. Some places have my middle name as 'Es' because my two middle initials are E and S. Just my $.02, I hope this helps you in some way.

Is using middle initials pretentious?

It depends on the country, as it’s less common outside the US. In the UK, it is considered unusual, if not pretentious, and even if you’ve got a name like ‘John Smith’, which is less than unique, it’s rare to include initials. This is a rare example of a middle initial being used in the UK, which can be considered distinct or pretentious depending on your point of view. As ‘Nigel’ is an unusual name in the US, it’s unlikely that he’s an American.Taunton, Somerset, not Taunton, MassachusettsFrom 1989 to 1992, there were two Members of Parliament in the UK named John Smith, but as they don’t address each other by their names in the House of Commons, there was no confusion.John Smith, who had no middle names, was referred to as ‘the Right Honourable Member for Monklands East’.John William Patrick Smith was referred to as ‘the Honourable Member for the Vale of Glamorgan’.Despite this rule not applying outside Parliament, I think people would have just written letters addressed to ‘John Smith, MP’ rather than ‘John W P Smith’, maybe adding ‘Member for Vale and Glamorgan’, although the first one would be addressed in correspondence as ‘Rt. Hon. John Smith, MP’.

Is there a space between two abbreviated initials?

Whyever would anyone ask me to answer this?  Anyway, as others have said, it's a stylebook thing.   Others have covered some of these; I'll just add that APA format (the most-used style for academic papers) and every other academic style I've seen does call for the space, at least in practice:(Page on psu.edu) Back when typography was done by hand, it was possible to skirt the question by adding a half-space or less.   Not so much today as the text and the presentation tend to be decoupled.   Stylebooks also only go so far.  Those of us who learned how to type on typewriters learned to put two spaces between sentences and still can't type any other way; I imagine if you learned a specific style for initials as well, it would be hard to change.

My name is P.N. Pavithran. I have 2 initials, how should I enter that while applying for a passport online in the first name and last name section?

your name P.N.Pavithranfor example let it be your full name as below(by expanding initials)full name= PANDI NARESH PAVITHRANType 1first name/give name = PANDImiddle name/second name = NARESHlast name/surname = PAVITHRANType 2first name/give name = PANDI NARESHmiddle name/second name= Blank( no middle name)last name/surname = PAVITHRANType 3first name/give name = PANDImiddle name/second name = Nlast name/surname = PAVITHRANType 4first name/give name = PANDI NARESH PAVITHRANmiddle name/second name = Blank(no middle name)last name/surname = Blank(no last name)the above mentioned types are only up to my knowledge. you may further enquiry to the passport office regarding this. they can give you a clear idea.my suggestionpeople those who are having first name and last name (or) first name, middle name and last name. then life is so simple. they will never face any problem at any time.but peoples those who are having initials with there name are facing problems like this. the only way to rectify this go for a name change process or expansion of initials. after that stick with one name in all ids.

How can I resolve a middle name issue in the GRE account registration?

Confirm with the ETS customer care, they're very responsive and helpful. I had the same problem myself and this is what's important:The name you use when you register — and the spelling of that name — must exactly match (excluding accents, apostrophes and spaces) the name printed on the identification (ID) documents that you will present on the day of the test...Be sure to provide your entire first (given) name (excluding accents, apostrophes and spaces). My identification document was my passport where there's no middle name column either. There the first (given) name has "VEDANT DAS".Another thing mentioned by ETS is:If you have a two-part last name, be sure to supply your complete last name as it appears on the ID documents (excluding accents, apostrophes and spaces) that you will present on the day of the test. For example, a last name of Fernandez de Córdova would be entered as FernandezdeCordova. The same rationale applied to the first name as well (at least for me). So on ETS and my GRE etc, my first name was "VedantDas" and my last name was "Swain".Therefore depending on where your middle name goes in your identification documents you'll have to do the needful. Make sure you confirm with the ETS customer care.
