Yes I think so, but I've not tested this much, mostly just when people I follow are live tweeting an event I'm not so interested in. Muting just stops their 'broadcast' tweets (the ones they send to everyone) from appearing in your timeline (it may also stop the ones that they send to others that you follow, but I'm afraid I've not tested that). I don't know about favouriting / retweeting (I think this would show up though).Anything that account sends to you as an at-mention will appear in your mentions and they will be able to send you direct messages as normal.

How can you tell if you've been muted on Twitter?

So, my friends decided to test Twitter to see if there was a possible way to tell if a person had been muted.  There is, but you'll need a friend's help.  Here's what we did: A friend muted me and then posted a tweet.  I responded to the tweet.  *I* can see my response to his tweet on HIS timeline, but he cannot.  A friend of ours checked the responses to his tweet and can see HER response (she's not muted) but CANNOT see mine on HIS timeline.  She CAN see it on MY timeline.So, if you think you've been muted, tell a friend where your response is falling and see if they can see it.  If they cannot, odds are, whoever you responded to has muted you.
