Im Self Conscious To A Point Of Ridiculousness

Why am I so self-conscious?

Because you think your value and worth as a person comes from what other people think of you. You may be doing this indirectly by tying your self-worth to intangible objects or goals, or your incorrect ideas what such things are or imply; things like money, grades, beauty, popularity, a girl/boyfriend. For example you may believe by observing rich people who are happy(or appear to be) by incorrect association that money brings happiness, or you cannot be happy without money. Feel free to replace money with any other item on my list or anything you would want to add. This idea, held by a lot of people, is wrong. Things, objects, and achievements don't bring happiness. If any, it will be temporary, after which life goes back to normal. Even having a girl/boyfriend (by my guess without any experience) does not bring happiness or satisfaction by itself. They would just be other human beings with their own different life and problems, which you can share. So the point I'm trying to drive home is this-Gaining this thing which you think you lack and others have, this thing which you feel is the reason people look down on you or don't appreciate you,   Will not change who you are, as a person. You will just be the same person holding this mysterious intangible thing you believe to be the key to everyone liking and accepting you. You will be the exact  same person, just with this thing you hold so dear, and there is no reason people should view you any differently than they already did. If anything, it is that thing that they will value not you.And if they did treat you completely differently because of this thing, they probably never understood or appreciated you for what you were in the first place, so you shouldn't care about their opinions. Why? Because the only thing that should make you feel confident about yourself is you.Not any superfluous, intangible or materialistic thing. Realise your own worth. Realise what parts of your personality are valuable. What you would do that those people whose opinion you hold so high wouldn't. And take what you value and work for it, gaining glories out of sweat and blood. Things which you would be proud of. Doing such things, and recognising your own worth truly is what leads to true confidence. Realise your worth truly and you would never care about others opinions and would wonder why you did in the first place.

What are the consequences of self awareness?

Q: What are the disadvantages of self-awareness?If you are talking about SELF-awareness, meaning one is awake to one’s own inner SELF — the source of one’s own creativity and intelligence — then the ‘disadvantages’ are several. One can never go back to the “ignorance is ‘bliss’” argument because SELF- ignorance will be gone for good. You discover that the SELF is the real source of bliss. The old argument was for the sake of solace in not having the bliss of the SELF.There are not so many in the world who can relate to what you are experiencing because most of the world will not have a clue what you are going through psychologically. The world may think YOU are deluded when the opposite is the reality. And if YOU don’t understand what is going on, it can be very confusing. It becomes more difficult to find others with knowledge about what you are going through psychologically because the “normal” has been left behind. One has entered the realm of the natural. Few live naturally whereas the norm is “normal.” You won’t seem so normal anymore. The more advanced one grows in higher states of consciousness, it can seem rather lonely without others also living higher states to relate. Much of the world is crazy people running around in fear over illusions that you come to recognize as such, but it’s hard to convince those caught up in their illusions and dreams that it’s such. You will come to think with your heart and feel with your mind. Conscience and humility meld with intellect and act as one. It becomes very painful to try to be mean, dishonest, greedy, crude, rude, arrogant, callous, criminal, small-minded, petty, and all other negative attitudes. This is because it will literally hurt the mind/heart relationship to do so whereas before you had less of a connection, even violated it freely. You will have to be more careful about what you tell others because people may recognize something special and begin to look up to you. One’s priorities change, becoming in tune with natural lawAs purity increases, it can attract more negativity. People have been crucified for not being careful.Magic tricks can be hilarious to watch. However, the disadvantages are far outweighed by the advantages of adaptability, stability, integration and 24 hour bliss. Certainly not deal-breakers.

Can one be too self-aware?

There is a possible confusion over the definition(s) of self awareness. Awareness itself is always a good thing, but to become overly conscious of all your little actions and behaviors can be debilitating. That sort of definition of self awareness is really "other awareness" in that we are self aware only in the sense of how we think we are perceived by others, or how acceptable our behavior is.  Self awareness in the sense of being aware of our feelings, motives, thoughts, fears, hopes, etc.... is in my opinion always a good thing. The real key is to allow that awareness to just be and not to constantly try  to consciously evaluate and examine it. When that happens we are not AWARE of the self, but rather neurotic or obsessive over the self. Awareness is good, conscious analysis on the other hands should be limited or you can find your self swimming up river in an attempt to understand the depths of who you are; an attempt that conscious thought is possibly not capable of understanding at an intellectual level, which can lead to neurosis.

How can I overcome my self-consciousness while writing?

Thanks for A2A.There's no real way to overcome pangs of self-consciousness if that comes from some kind of fear that your family members or friends might judge you on your writing. Everybody has those feelings to a greater or lesser degree. User explained this well. What you have to realise -- need to realise -- is that your writing is your own. You cannot live your efforts on the real or imagined judgments of others. How easy or hard you're able to do this is up to you, and largely a matter of your personality and temperament. In writing, as it is in life generally, somebody somewhere will always hate and detest your guts no matter what you do. As the saying goes, you can please some people some of the time, some people all of the time, all people some of the time, but never all people all of the time.Be pragmatic about this. Just write your stuff out. Write to please yourself first. If it pleases others, then that's a bonus. To hell with those who don't like it! "If you can do better, you write it then!" Get the point?

Are most girls insecure about the way they look?

I, for one, am super insecure about my looks. On the outside I don't seem to care, but I actually think about it everyday and feel self-conscious about my face, hair, body in every waking hour . I see guys rating girls who are ten times prettier than me as "average", and it makes me think I must look like a river troll. Do most girls feel like this, or do I have particularly low-self esteem?

Does a mentally ill or generally referred mad person self aware of his madness?

First of all, a mentally ill person is no more referred to as a mad person. You are talking about olden times where mad was used colloquially for a person with mental illness.I still see the word madness used in context of schizophrenia. I’m not favor of using this word for any mental illness. We may go around saying “This is madness!”, “You are mad for thinking Aretha Franklin is better than Nina Simone.” “Our civilization is going down a mad path.” Now, these are acceptable. However, madness isn’t an official diagnosis or symptom of a mental illness. So, let’s not equal the two.And while Wikipedia [1]may disagree with me or the mental health lobby, this is where I draw the line. I have gone through life being called wacko, weird, mad, crazy, insane etc but I wonder if they’d use those words if they knew, even remotely, of the kind of mental turmoil I live with.Still, to address our problem at hand. Madness, casually, without regard, might refer to intense psychosis, delusional thinking and paranoia. We all, mentally ill or not, have these episodes. The intensity, frequency and duration vary. A person with mental illness generally shows marked episodes of this so called madness. There is a definite lack of awareness when this madness acts through a person.I once recall, at the age of 12 years, pulling one of flowery thread gently off of my brother-in-law to-be’s headgear (sahera in Hindi) at his wedding (In Indian weddings, grooms wear this headgear). I still don’t know how it happened. It just did. No one understood. It was as if my mind was not in my control and my hand just pulled one of the threads. Was I mad? I had epilepsy in that age. I had had 2 or 3 seizures during this period (till today, I don’t know for sure). I reckon the emotional trauma I went through from 10–13 years of age had a role to play. I don’t remember falling off of my bed trembling with froth coming out of my mouth? I was told of its occurrence. Yes, perhaps that was madness. In medieval times, they would have taken me to witch hunter or magicians or something of that kind to rid me of spirits which people believed at the time to cause madness. Now, that I have been diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder, would I call myself mad? Nope! I have the level of self-awareness that would blow most neurotypical minds off their heads. But what do I know, I am mad after all according to wikipedia.Image: Google.
