Imcome Taxes For A Job

How does income tax work in the U.S.?

Presuming you are a person subject to US taxation (which is, in itself, a complex question), here’s how it works:ALL income you make, from any source, in any country, must be reported. Many times, taxes are automatically withheld by the payer and given to the government. This is particularly true of labor (i.e. work) income, but certain other types also require this automatic tax withholding. You are allowed to exclude certain money from taxation (‘deductions’) based on a byzantine (and ever-changing) set of requirements.Certain types of income (i.e. from different sources) are subject to different rates of taxation. This primarily treats “investment” income as different than “ordinary” (i.e. everything non-investment) income.Certain actions entitle you to a Tax Credit (which translates into “money we count as you already having paid as taxes”)You can deduct taxes paid to any other country. You must file a tax form with our IRS, detailing all of the above. You sum up all your income, reduce the total by your deductions, and then pay a percentage of the remainder as income tax. This is not a flat percentage, but rather a graduated “step” system. For instance, regardless of total income you make, the first $10,000 is taxed at 10%. Every dollar from $10,001 to $25,000 is taxed at 15%. Every dollar from $25,001 to $50,000 is taxed at 25%, etc. Just because you made $40,000 doesn’t mean you pay 25% tax.If your total tax owed is less than the amount you already paid, PLUS any amount of Tax Credits you qualify for, you receive a refund of the difference. Otherwise, you owe Uncle Sam.

Do I have to claim both jobs on my taxes?

I have a full time job with a salary of $50k and a part time job as a server making $600-$800 a month. Do I absolutely HAVE to claim my server job? Or, if I make under $10k/yr as a server, do I not need to claim this on my taxes?

How do I get income tax jobs?

How do I get income tax jobs? You need to demonstrate a knowledge of income tax laws. H&R Block offers courses starting in early September every year. If you do well (a passing grade was 80% when I did this), then you can apply for jobs at H&R Block offices. Every fall they offer more training in increasingly more complex subjects. There are other routes, but that is the one I am familiar with.BTW, many people confuse accountants with income tax specialists. An accountant doesn’t necessarily know anything about income taxes.

Shawn lost his job. He draws unemployment. Why might Shawn still have to pay income taxes?

Shawn is still receiving an income, it doesn't matter if it is from an employer or from unemployment insurance. He is still required to pay income taxes on it.

Do 16 Year Olds Have To File Income Tax?

Your age has nothing to do with the requirement to file a tax return. If you earn more than the filing requirement amount for your filing status then you must file. For a 16 year old who is being claimed as a dependent, the filing requirement amount for wages from a job subject to withholding is $5,450 in 2008. You must also file if you have unearned income greater that $850 or self-employment income greater than $400 or if you have unearned income of more than $300 and earned income of $5,150 or more.

If you have a regular job, they will withhold taxes from your pay. You must file if your income exceeds the amounts above. You must also file if your income is less but you want the taxes withheld from your pay refunded to you.

Will having 2 jobs affect my income tax?

Yes it will increase your gross earning for the year and also probably increase your taxable income amount.
All W-2 and some other types of income from all worldwide sources are combined and enter on the Line 7 of the 1040 tax form for the tax year.
And if you filled the W-4 for both jobs claiming the single and 1 or whatever you did this could cause you to have a shortage of withheld income taxes when your 1040 income tax return is completed correctly after the end of the tax year 2010 in the year 2011.
Just make sure and check with Kmart about this possible W-2 for the year 2010 before you complete your 1040 tax form.
