In 300 Is The Final Battle Scene Told Truthfully

What's the most truthful statement you said that was quite inappropriate?

I was in grade 5 (immigrated middle of grade 3), and just starting to get off of ESL classes and take english/language arts with the rest of the class. I was asked by the teacher as one of the six kids to go on the white board, and make a sentence on the spot with a particular word she’s written down for each kid.I think she tried to give me the easy one, “but”, given I was the only ESL student in class and have only been in the country for less than two years. So I went up and wrote the first thing that came to my mind. After it was done and people were focusing on what I wrote, I could feel the class becoming silent, no one talked, or even whispered, everyone just looked in horror, including my teacher, and then she said to the class, go ahead and read your book, I’ll be back. She then walked over to me and asked me to join her in leaving the classroom, she then took me down to the Principal's office and made me wait in the reception area while she went in. A hour or so later my parents were at the school with a friend who acted as the translator. I was very afraid and realized that I had caused all sorts of trouble for the school, my parents and others. What I had written was “my mom hits me but I still love her”. After that I did realize that this was something normal where I came from(China) but illegal in Canada, so I never mentioned it again to anyone till I was an adult.

How historically accurate is the movie "300"?

There really is a place called Thermopylae. There really was a battle there between Greeks (including 300 Spartans) and soldiers from the Persian Empire.Yup, that’s about it for historical accuracy. Spartans weren’t interested in Freedom, either for their slaves or themselves. In fact, they adopted their military lifestyle in the wake of a slave revolt, to make sure that no other would occur. The Persian elite guard, the Immortals, did not wear utterly useless and, indeed, counterproductive silver masks, but looked like this:Xerxes I was not a massive but effeminate Chippendale dancer with fashionable body piercings and delusions of godhood, but this guy,He proved a competent war leader in Egypt and Mesopotamia, was a builder, is mentioned approvingly in The Book of Esther in the Bible. He was probably a Zoroastrian. What Frank Miller did in the graphic novel 300, which was reproduced almost scene by scene in the movie, is show a fear of the cultures of the East. It is Islamophobia set in a time before Islam. I’m not throwing the “Islamophobia” word around lightly…he really does fear and loathe Middle Eastern cultures (Frank Miller’s Holy Terror Is Fodder for Anti-Islam Set) and is self-admittedly ignorant about them (Parting Shot: ‘Holy Terror’ Creator Frank Miller Admits He Knows ‘Squat’ About Islam).I know Persians whom I admire, and others I like and trust. The lies of 300 made me angry, but Frank Miller will hardly be concerned about that. He thinks that the Western World is facing an “existential threat” from the Middle East and that people like myself are dangerously naive. But listen to the man himself.

Can I change my 4 month old daughters last name?

My friend told me the first year you can change a child's last name for free. I would like to know how to go about doing that. My daughter has two possible fathers. The one that i was living with came to the hospital when she was born. He knew she might not be his but he said she would be his anyway he practically threatened me to give her his last name. I wanted to give her my last name till we found out who the father was. He signed the papers to be put on the birth certificate but they didn't put his name on cause i am still legally married. He refuses to get a dna test and the other guy doesn't care. But i think we should know in case she is the other guys in case of any medical problems arise. I live in pennsylvania. I was wondering if since he is not on the birth certificate I can change her last name without his signature? How do I go about doing this? I want to give her my maiden last name and hopefully this will make him get a dna test.

What is one incident in your life when you feel proud, sad and disgusted because of that incident?

I’ve stayed in boarding for 10 years now, currently doing my post graduation. Fortunate enough to have received education from the reputed institutes. My parents have always directed me to the thought that education is wealth. So one fine day, I come home after giving my final exam. Happy and joyful as ever. My maternal aunt comes to visit me, asking me about my well being. I answer to all her questions with zest. My parents join our conversation.Aunt : So what are your future plans?Me : Planning to take a year break. I want to experience the corporate world and then go ahead with my management course.Aunt : You still want to study? Don’t you feel you should get married now?Dad(intervening the conversation) : She wants to study ahead. We are more than happy on what she’s chosen.Aunt : You should get her married. She’s a girl. It’s obvious that you have to take a lot of debts for her upbringing. Education will not yield you any returns. You will take your entire life to repay your girl child’s loan.Me and my dad looked at each other astonished. We didn’t even take efforts to explain it to her. We realised that some things in life are better left unsaid. This one incident is stuck to my mind. The words she uttered that day has made me more clear in life. That very day I was proud that my parents were wise enough to trust me and let me choose my aim in life. I was proud that my aunt’s words were not a barrier in life.I was extremely sad on how a girl is treated as a misfortune and burden despite being successful in all the fields. It obviously felt disgusting as to how a woman could tell this to other woman who wanted nothing but to prosper in life. All such people with degrading minds, all I want to tell you is that, “we are given a life to grab the opportunity, not to seek your choices.”

What enabled the 300 Spartans to fend off a million man army of the Persians, in the Legendary battle of Thermopylae?

Because they did not. Their were probably around 3 to 4 thousand Greeks from Corinth, Athens, and other city-states. However, they did choose wisely a defensive place. Have better weapons for close combat, compared to Persians, a willingness to defend homeland compared to the Persians who were mostly from Egypt, Syria, Asia Minor, etc.The 300 spartan stayed behind after the Persians found a passage around the mountain. This opened the flank of the army destroying the 300 ability to defend. Athens was then burned and Sparta ready to surrender upper Greece. Only the Athens admiral rallied his troops for the battle of Salamis.
