In Christian Lore What Are The Weaknesses Of Common Demons

In Christian lore, what are the weaknesses of common demons?

Well.....it's not hard-and-fast.

Christianity itself - what we might call "universal Christian doctrine" or "mainstream Christian doctrine" or even "official Christian doctrine" - only teaches that demons are susceptible to exorcism. Prayer and fasting done in preparation by the person doing the exorcising makes the exorcism more powerful.

However: Christianity in different cultures has many cultural-specific "legends" or "myths" attached to it. So - for example - in Mexico (and probably in several other cultures), certain "saints cards" - cards with a picture of a saint on one side and (often) a prayer on the reverse side - are considered effective wards against demonic influences.

Doubtless in some cultures iron is considered an effective ward (I seem to remember reading that somewhere long ago). I've only ever seen salt used on the TV show "Supernatural", so I don't know if that is a genuine cultural-specific ward or not.

Assuming that you're looking for ideas and not real religious beliefs:

For real religious beliefs regarding what is effective against demons, you'll have to examine in some detail the religious beliefs of various specific cultures. I'd like to add that in many cultures specific forms of dancing (usually, noisy varieties, like clogging) are considered effective wards against demonic mischief!

Most movies adopt a Catholic concept (see second link) because Catholicism has so many physical objects that are considered "holy" and - so - can be used by the movie writers or directors as wards against demonic mischief.

What are some common vampiric weaknesses in myth and fiction, other than obvious ones like sunlight, holy water/wafers, and crucifixes?

crossing vast amounts of water is impossible without a vessel and without attracting storms and other bad weather (*)Sleeping was required to happen during day and on non sanctified land, sometimes the same specific land of the place of birth of the vampire (*)SilverReligious or hallowed items (*)can’t come into a dwelling without being invitedcan’t walk in hallowed ground or buildingsGarlicwooden stakesTaking the heart allows another person to control the vampire (although I only have a faint recollection of this in one low budget movie, so…)UV lightingSpecific starlight from a specific star (this is from the TMNT, so…)blood domination (a vampire can dominate or be dominated by another, depending on how much blood it consumes from the target to dominate).soulless / damned (this is not an everyday disadvantage, but it would be a huge one when dead)little to no emotional / psychical evolution (when you are an immortal, having an impediment to evolve with the times does not serve you well. This varies, though, some people emphasize it, some people ignore it.)werewolf venom / blood (depending on the fiction, it can cause delirium or death)diseased or drugged blood acts as poisonControl, anger and hunger issues, particularly in the presence of blood (*)wild roses can imprison them in their tombs (*)Spark in daylightHave no reflection on mirrors or reflective surfacesThese are all variable depending on the work of fiction or lore consulted. These are all I have come accross personally in books, games, movies, series and comics. I’m sure there are many more, since vampires are extremely versatile. These are only directly applicable to Western lore vampires. Chinese or Hindu vampires have a different set of rules. For example, the Hindu “Tales of the Vampire” has a “vampire” that is imprisoned by the spiritual powers of a king inside a dead body, and which is bound by his word (since in Hindu myth even the evil spirits are pious. Love that stuff). The Chinese vampires have calcified joints so it can only move by jumping, and I’m sure there are other variants.* these ones can be tracked to lore or the original “Dracula” from Bram Stoker, in addition to the holy water, crucifixes and sunlight ones.

Does the Old Testament of the Bible speak of demons and angels, and does the New Testament refute the old?

Yes, the Old Testament makes numerous references to such. The trouble comes in the use of language. The OT is written both in Greek and Hebrew. Words must be translated from those to our own. While a character may be translated exactly as angel, for example, it might appear differently, but by the description it is clearly a divine messenger or agent. Christ himself appears as such a figure in the OT, foreshadowing his future arrival. The New Testament does not refute the OT. Jesus made this clear, as do many of the other epistles. It does however make clear and reveal the meanings of the OT. In other words, the NT revealed what the OT concealed.God is the same. He never changes. The God in the OT is the same God of the NT. Jesus made it clear that the OT was written about him. And he taught that nothing in the law will pass away. He fulfilled the law, not negated it.Jesus bought in a new covenant between God and man. Indeed, “Testament” is a problematic word that comes form the lack of like words as the ancient languages were translated into Latin and then to English. The Old Covenant and the New Covenant would be more accurate. The New Covenant however does not negate the Old Covenant. It does however bring to us a much better covenant that will actually save the one who believes in it.

A demon or entity is attacking me in my sleep paralysis. What does it want from me?

Before answering, may I exend my upmost sympathy to you for what you are going through. It truly sucks to have a demon invade your life, they seek to cause nothing but pain. What happened to your friend is truly awful, and one has to wonder why any sentient creature would want to put any other being through that. :(

Don't give up hope though, there are ways to protect yourself. From what I gather, it seems to be a primarilly nocturnal attacker, so protecting yourslef should be easy, as it is a static point.

1. Cast a Pentacle or trace a circle of salt around your bed BUT MAKE SURE THE DEMON IS NOT INSIDE THIS AREA. Evil entities cannot enter UNBROKEN pentacles or salt circles, but extremely strong ones can find a way.

2. Douse yourself/sheets in holy water. Whether you are christian or not is irrelevant (I'm not) but it is the fact that people believe and are given hope by these things repels demons.

3. Learn to sense the demon's presence. Most entities, particularly ones as strong as this, are obvious to most people once they are recognised. When you sense it, say with upmost confidence something along the lines of "You are not welcome, Leave, I do not fear you." Make sure you mean it od it will only piss it off more.

4. Keep you dogs with you. Canines are very perceptive to spirits, so they will be like an early warning system, also, some deomns are scared off by dogs.

5. If you can, have people keep watch while you sleep. Just having someone wait for you to pass out isn't enough. Nocturnal predators attack when you're asleep or falling asleep, when you are most vulnerable. Remove that vulnerability by having people looking after you.

Good luck, and I hope that your future struggles with this creature lead to your victory. If all else fails, get someone from a pagan religion (Particularly Wikka) to lend a hand. They'll know what to do. Remember, EVERY entity has a weakness. For more specific instructions, try and find out exactly what kind of demon it is. If you need more help, feel free to email me.

One last piece of advice: You cannot and shouldn't try to get revenge on this thing.

Who is best warrior from Hindu mythology?

The Best Warrior in the Hindu Epics is -not RAMA,not HANUMAN,not BHISHMA,not ARJUNA,not KARNA,not BARBARIKAIt is the Very infamous ‘Indrajith’ , aka ‘Meghanath’, whose wrath had to be borne even by Rama, an Avatar of Vishnu and undoubtedly, he is the most powerful warrior in the Epics of Indian MythologyAccording to the Warrior Classes in Hindu Mythology, the below 4 are the topmost classes in increasing order.AthirathisMaharathisAthimaharathisMahamaharathisTo put it in a perspective,a Maharathi can fight 12 Athirathis simultaneouslya Athimaharathi can fight 12 Maharathis simultaneouslya Mahamaharathi can fight 24 Atimaharathis simultaneouslyMost of the famous personalities of Ramayana and Mahabharatha were Maharathis- Rama, Lakhmana, Hanuman, Bhishma, Parashurama, Arjuna, Karna, Krishna … were all only MaharathisIndrajit is the only mortal to be in the list of Mahamaharathis while the others in the list are only the Supreme GODS- Vishnu,Shiva,Brahma, Shakthi …Thus Indrajith can fight Rama, Lakshamana, Hanuman, Krishna, Bhishma, Parashurama, Arjuna, Karna simultaneously and can effortlessly overpower all of them …Indrajith was the only warrior in possession of all the three supreme celestial weapons of Brahmanda Astra , Vaishnava Astra and Pashupatha Astra ….Maharathi (warrior)Edit: People who think I'm wrong or propose there are other greater warriors are welcomed to believe and say so but their version should be backed by some authentic and verifiable sources. And the answer is not my opinion or perception. It is what is stated as per some reliable texts. So please comment your counter point with a proper verifiable source. Thanks .

Did dinosaurs and humans ever exist at the same time?

That depends on which definition of dinosaurs you apply. If you mean the generic definition of large reptiles found in the fossil record in and about the Jurassic period, there are dinosaurs around today (Crocs and Gators, monitor lizards)

If you mean a strict paleontological definition - not sure. There are some references to such creatures living in Pliny the Elder's, "The Natural History" as well as dragon lore on four continents suggesting it is possible. The European tales talk of these 'dragons' (dinosaurs) being hunted to extinction, which would explain why there are none today. But there are those who question the validity of those tales.

One side of the argument if they were just tall tales they would be localized, but they are found on multiple continents among cultures that had no contact with each other, but who have very similar descriptions of the creatures - to similar to be coincidental.

The other side says those tales were based on fossils which is why you have those similarities. The weakness to the fossil hypothesis is several of those cultures are in areas where no dinosaur fossils have been found.

We do know with more than 9 out of 10 species living today having no representation in the fossil record that the record is very incomplete, so it is entirely possible that dinosaurs did survive even to the common era but simply did not end up in the fossil record. So this is a question where we really cannot make a definitive claim either way.

I must admit I am mildly amused by those saying there are descendents (birds) given those same people argue the dinosaurs became extinct 65 million years ago.. How do extinct species evolve into birds? If they didn't all become extinct then why couldn't some of the reptilian versions have survived into more recent times and the accounts by Pliny and others be correct? Other reptiles (not officially called dinosaurs by paleontologists) survived from that period to modern times, why not some dinosaurs, what is inherently different about them that they could not have survived? The dogmatic assertion that all dinosaurs (except those that evolved into birds and several non-dinosaur reptiles) became extinct 65 million years ago sounds kind of silly. Seriously are natural disaster really that selective in what they kill?
