Would a potential President Trump suspend elections?

There is literally no mechanism by which a President Trump – or any President for that matter – could do this. The Constitution gives the President absolutely zero role in the electoral process. Now, Congress could do this; because while others have cited that the States have primacy over the electoral process, the Constitution does give Congress the ability to “at any time by Law make or alter such Regulations (Art. I, Sec 4).”A despotically inclined or controlled Congress might amend 2 U.S. Code § 7, the law which sets the national date for Federal elections, to have some language to the effect of:If there a national emergency as defined by 50 U.S. Code § 1622 that coincides with the time of election set forth in this chapter, then the time of election shall be postponed until either the national emergency no longer exists, or an Act of Congress shall proscribe a new time of election. At which point Despot Drumpf declares a national emergency in perpetuity, and that’s that…But not really. The Constitution is very clear about the lengths of terms for Representatives, Senators, and Presidents, and there’s no loophole in its text to allow for those terms to be extended by states of emergency. So that law, by permitting such term extensions, would get a very swift legal challenge and would almost certainly be struck down as unconstitutional. Like, “shortest 9-0 opinion ever” struck down.Unless in this alternate universe Hair Drumpf is also sitting on the Supreme Court and is able to bully his fellow Justices to uphold the law, in which case I hope y’all enjoy your dictatorship.

Consider the following: Donald Trump, for medical reasons, chooses not to run in 2020. Democrats, is there a Republican potential candidate for whom you would vote? Republicans, is there a Democratic candidate for whom you would vote?

I lean too far left to ever vote for a republican, even if its a ‘middle of the road’ republican (which are mostly extinct). So, if say for instance John Kasich became the nominee in your above scenario, I’m pretty sure the Dems would have a decent candidate to go against him. I pretty much like all the Dems that are currently in the field over a guy like Kasich, so no, I wouldn’t vote for a right winger under almost any hypothetical circumstance.Because, here’s the deal: once they reach office, the game has changed and now the lobbyist and all the moneyed interests take control. And I never trust Republicans to stand up against that shit.-

What does Donald Trump stand to gain by running for President and not winning?

He seems to have run out of steam and throwing in the towel. Was he ever serious? Why isn't he fighting until the end? I am not criticizing him, I just don't get it. Please, no name calling, just facts. thanks
