What is your favorite TV show about high schoolers?

My So-Called Life. Just an overall excellent show. Ridiculous that it got cancelled so quickly. Here’s an excellent review:5. My So-Called Life Original Run:1994-1995Surprisingly mature, critically adored, and canceled immediately, My So-Called Life was like a refutation of all the school shows that had come before it, both comedies and dramas. It seemed to have special disdain for the “very special episode” format, and instead took those social issues and wrapped them into the entire ongoing storyline. The problems faced by 15-year-old Angela Chase (Claire Danes) didn’t arise and get wrapped up at the end of the episode, they festered and spurred personal growth. The nervous hair-flip, semi-requited love and existential confusion of Angela made the world less lonely for the sort of artsy, grunge-era high school kids who would go on to rule the world—or at least work at indie magazines. We leave you with this quote that epitomizes the way the show so beautifully captured the high school age: “I’m in love. His name is Jordan Catalano. He was left back—twice. Once I almost touched his shoulder in the middle of a pop quiz. He’s always closing his eyes, like it hurts to look at things.”—Josh Jackson

Why do most of the characters in the TV shows use flip phones?

Directors prefer to use outdated phones on TV  shows because they want to avoid the hassles of obtaining permissions from modern smartphone manufacturers to use them in the show. Also if they use a recent phone it will be free advertising for the phone, and directors certainly don't want that. This is also the reason why you will see characters using fake search engines while surfing on the net.PS: Although this seems pretty legit, it is pretty strange that Macs are shown in many movies and TV shows. Perhaps someone can answer why this rule doesn't apply to Macs.

Why are British TV series so short?

For some reason, (which I don’t understand) UK-based television production never really embraced the idea of the writers-room.A writers-room allows the the main writer to outsource the writing of individual episodes to trusted co-writers, all the while maintaining a consistent story and flavour.UK TV just does not do this. Perhaps someone will explain why. I am not sure whether it is a lack of quality writers, control freakery on behalf of the main creatives. An unwillingness to work on other peoples stuff, or just the methodology required for sharing the writing process not ever being properly developed. The upshot is the most important and unique shows tend to be written by either a single individual or (at most) a writing partnership. (I think the only exception are soaps and sketch-based comedy shows, where the individual sketches are written by the performers.)That’s just not enough people to write one episode per week. So in the UK we get no 22 episode seasons, and we often see short runs. And we often see these odd, 3 or 6 episodes runs.

In Skins, when Cassie goes to see Chris after seeing Chris' mom, why is Chris crying?

When she says "I couldn't stand it" I am pretty sure she is talking about handling the death of Chris's older brother and Chris, who has always been rebellious. Plus, his father left his family to start a new one which only added on to more of her stress.

Chris is crying because he overheard his mother outside saying she didn't want to see him.

Cassie dropped the milk because it hit her that Chris wasn't going to be alright. Remember Cassie feeds off love and approval from others, so without Chris, she'd be "alone."

Which was the best generation of the TV series 'Skins'?

I thought the first season was amazing in the first season, yet I thought the second season that still focused on the original generation just got kind of sad. I think for the first and second generation watching their first season as a cast and as they learn new things and go on adventures is an amazing experience. But I think as we are watching then in their second seasons it’s, of course entertaining, but a little sad because all the characters even the most together ones begin to go down hill and their lives fall apart all together. So to answer your question generation one.

What season should I start watching Degrassi?

I would suggest starting with the 8th season. This is the season where the main characters to date are introduced as freshman at Degrassi. There will probably be some things that you don't understand at first because you haven't seen all of the old episodes, but it should be fairly easy to catch on.

Is 'Skins' UK a realistic representation of what teenage life is like in England?

I never felt it was a good representation of my young life and I was in the “Skins group” in college and it’s about my generation, I spent way more time at the pub, as in basically every outing with friends from college was to the pub, we lived in the pub, we were the pub and the pub was us.They never go to the pub in Skins, hardly ever and it’s always some empty shit pub.I don’t remember the scene in the white lines pub were they got offered coke in the loo, that was pretty much it, go to the Churchill in Debden because they didn’t give a fuck, Lock ins, people getting spiked on new years, paying for Pizza with 5 Euro Notes etc, didn’t see much of that. It’s all just an attempt at ultimate trendiness.Really, it’s quite a vacuous and pretentious show that just got more ridiculous as the seasons progressed. The first season was the one we all thought was good, good writing, good dialogue, the kind of thing they would put on in AS media and dissect with the class. After that, it’s just……..awfulRemember the ones with the ginger kid and they’re running around talking about how much “Spliff” they smoke? So cringe.Or when one of the characters seems to join some…violence…snooker...drug..gang?of……..poolhall bandits?Or that metalhead guy, who was supposed to unironically present a Metalhead but ironically presented the metalhead stereotype wanker that, instead of representing the sub-culture, was just another example of lack of true knowledge about youth Culture. There is a scene where, in some kind of, metal bar, that a character stands on the table and sings (shouts) along to Killing in the name of by RATM, in a serious way, as it wasn’t supposed to be humour, it was real.plus it’s set in Bristol, for whatever reason, but it should have been London, Youth culture (as in actual Culture) is really really rich (or was) and would have made for a show more could connect with. It’s just about dumb teenagers who think they’re deep as fuckwritten by Dumb teenagers who think they’re deep as fuck.

Does anyone know any monologues from the UK tv show Skins?

Especially a monologue from Effy! Not the long one about lemonade and her brother but ones from the actual show. But any character is fine male and/or female. Preferably female. Thank you! xx
