The only thing you can do is to plug it into your computer and open up iTunes. You will have two options, to restore the device or try to update it. If you don't mind losing your data, just restore it. Hopefully you had an iCloud backup which you can install onto the device. If you don't want to lose your data and have not made an iCloud backup, try updating it first. I forgot my password so i decided to restore my iPod touch. Whenever I go to click restore it says extracting software and when its done it says "The iPod cannot be restored at this time because the iPod software update server could not be contacted or is temporary unavailable. I have the updated version of iTunes and I'm using windows. I've tried holding down the home and lock button but that does nothing.
