Is A Tortoise Legal In South Africa

Do african spurred tortoises live in florida?

i found an african spurred tortoise in my garage and i fed it lettuce and water. i live in tallahassee florida. i have no idea if they live here or not but i know that people will pay a lot of money to own one as a pet and i have never seen one before. also it was really eager to eat the lettuce and kept coming back for more as if it was used to eating lettuce from a person. and its not very afraid of me. im thinking of keeping it as a pet since its so smart and nice.

Found a Hermann's Tortoise?

I found a small tortoise on the side of the road in a residential area of Northern California. It looks to be a Hermann's Tortoise. I have it in a box with grass/turf, some cantalope and honeydew melon and shredded carrots. Until I can find a home for it what else do I do with it? It is outdoors in the shade as it is about 100 here today. Should I just leave it where it is for the evening? Gets down to about 65 at night. As the tortoise appears to be very afraid of people I hate to stress it out but it was going to be a speed bump if we left it there.

I own 4 huge Sulcata tortoises and 2 hatchlings when I talked to the people at the Fish and Wildlife center I was told since it is a non native species I have no need for a permit.

But since I have so many turtles from rescuing I do have all my proper permits and license.

All you have to do is call and they will give you all the details you need.

Can I put a turtle in a lake in my local park?

Bad idea for lots of reasons. If you cannot identify it, then it could be a land turtle, a pond turtle, or one from somewhere else in the world with a very different climate. Without knowing the above, it’s essentially a death sentence for the turtle. If it’s a land tortoise, placing it in water is an especially bad idea. They live on land, not in water! The reverse is true for aquatic turtles. Most need to be underwater just to eat. Many turtles sold in “pet shops” come from tropical and semi tropical areas. Let one go in an area where there are real winters (snow, ice, temperatures below freezing), and the turtle will die. It’s also illegal in most areas. For example, in Pennsylvania, you can release a turtle into the wild, same place as you found it, as long as you don’t keep it for more than 24 hours. If the turtle is not native to PA, you cannot legally release it. Now it’s not like there are Turtle Police out and about, watching for lawbreakers, but Conservation officers are indeed out there, and if you do something illegal, the penalty can be expensive.Even releasing home raised turtles into the wild in areas where the same species exists is risky for the wild turtles. Your turtle may have a contagious disease that could kill off a whole pond or lake full of happy turtles.Best course of action: find out exactly what kind of turtle it is. Take a picture. Ask someone to identify it for you, based on the picture. Adopt it, and if you don’t wish to keep it, find a reptile rescue who can take care of it better than you can.

Why these tow leopard tortoises are different ?

They are different. The small one is Stigmochelys pardalis babcocki, the Western Leopard Tortoise. The big ones are S. p. somalica, from Ethiopia and Somali-land, which are a lot bigger, less colorful, and not considered a true subspecies by Herpetologists, but a different color morph. The babies get paler as they grow up making them harder to tell apart except by size.

The Eastern Leopard Tortoise, Pardalis pardalis, only lives in South Africa and has more color variation than the two above.

Can I bring my pet tortoise to Ireland from India?

The Irish Association of Tortoise KeepersPet Travel and EU Pet PassportTortoises are not specifically mentioned, which makes me think there is no problem and no quarantine. However just to be on the safe side have a letter from the vet dated within a week of travel stating the tortoise is healthy and free of disease. If it can fit in a small carrier that will fit under the seat in front of you, apply for a “pet in cabin” and pay the additional fee to bring it onboard in order to ensure it does not get put into cargo and suffer from the cold.

I know California has strict pet restrictions but is it illegal to own a monkey, rabbit, or turtle?

Monkeys and Chimps are illegal as pets.  By special permit, I believe that performing animals may be exempt if properly licensed.  But, as everyday pets, no.  Some turtles are legal to own.  The desert tortoises are protected species and are illegal to own.  Fort Irwin, California is smack-dab in the middle of tortoise country.  If one is spotted in the training area--called the box--all training must cease, and the person(s) sighting the turtle must report its location and track it until a state approved tortoise expert arrives so that the tortoise may be properly relocated to a tortoise refugee area; it can take a long time for the expert to respond to the call.  No one other than the expert may touch or otherwise molest the tortoise. If you want a turtle, often pet stores which sell pet fish also sell the variety of turtle that thrives in water.  Not an expert in this area, but I have seen turtles for sale in pet stores in CA.Rabbits are cute when they are bunnies, and are quite legal in CA.For more information go to the California Fish and Wildlife website.

Would it be legal to keep a pet Axolotl (Mexican Water Monster)?

Yes, I dont know of any state that they're not legal in but just to be sure check your laws, legality of species varies from state to state, for example Im not allowed to own African Clawed Frogs. No they're not limited to mexico, lol, thats just where they're from, like Lake Malawi cichlids are from lake malwai but they're found in almost every petstore

What is the price of a pet turtle in India?

Dont have a turtle as a pet - leave alone the price - there are many places you can get them even for free.Keeping a turtle is a big responsibility - they love very long ( 50–60 years.)and captive turtles cannot survive in wild. Since you would fed them, they loose their instinct to hunt and eat.Remember, as you pass through various ages in your life, your preferences, choices would change along with responsibilities. Unless you have a large farm or a pond, I strongly suggest that think of any other pet or still better, plant. This is out of my personal experience.
