How do I pursue filmmaking after studying engineering in India?

Thank you for A2A Kartik SrinivasNeither will I dissuade you from pursuing your dreams neither will I encourage you to pursue it without first knowing why you want to be a filmmaker. That said let me warn you, if you are into filmmaking for any of the below listed reasons, take it as a guarantee that your life will end up as a miserable failure & push you into despondency.Primary Reason for Failure:Into Filmmaking because of Glamor/FameInto Filmmaking because of MoneyInto Filmmaking because of easy SexInto Filmmaking because thats your last resort (join politics instead)Now that we have identified the most obvious reasons for failure. Let us shortlist virtues or qualities that will not only guarantee a successful career as a filmmaker but also make life more fulfilling. You have inherent desire and ability for story-telling You are madly & blindly wedded to a cause which you feel can be ably highlighted via Film/ Television Medium (then you are suited for Documentaries)You have an eye of an artist (painter) or are an amateur photographer. Do people leave engineering after first year?

Absolutely, even I would say that the post-first year is the best time when one makes his or her mind to leave the engineering. If you are finding it difficult to cope up with, then you have to leave it straight away because once this opportunity is lost then there is nothing left except regret. The most general thing a student presumes is that what the society or relatives or XYZ anyone will think or say if I leave the Engineering, then I must clear it that it’s all bullshit. No one cares. It is not a battlefield that you cannot leave. It is your life. The best part is that there are many other career options which one can opt and be much more successful in life. But first, it is better to know yourself, what you really like because such decisions are not taken in haste. Give yourself time and just go for it. No one decides better for you better than you.

How can I pursue a career in acting in India after doing my B.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering?

Very easy. First your degree which u hold hardly matters. So take that and throw it in the nearest dust bin u find. With that u also threw away a considerable amount of money which u spent on earning that engineering degree. More than money u clearly spent your good 4 years doing nothing. Now are u a star son or daughter? If yes. Welcome to bollywood. U don't have to do anything at all. But if you are not then get ready. What qualities do u have to be an actor? The ones where you think you are superbly insanely good looking? Of yes welcome to bollywood again. If no brace yourself. The tide is against you. What you can do is try registering yourself for some film school. Learn the art. Waste more money. And then make contacts. Get into the theathre. Move to Mumbai. Get prepared to lose your dignity. But in the end what matters is, is your heart really into this? If yes no one can stop u. Don't worry your engineering will just help u stand out in making good life decisions. So it's not a complete waste my friend. Follow your dreams maybe I can see you as an actor somewhere.

I am an Indian & I want to pursue acting but I want to completing engineering graduation first as acting career is risky. What do you think about it?

Yes. It is risky but havent heard the quote " If you are not sitting on the edge you are occupying a lot of space" and No pain no gain.I would suggest you to initially participate in competitions relating to acting  or join local theatre clubs as of now. You can take up any responsibility they offer you for ex : Managing logistics or clothes etc. Participate in acting workshops. Be active on social media.Take up Dancing , Grooming lesson. Join gym. Fitness matters. Make a portfolio with different looks. You can make a you tube channel and upload clips relating to acting. Social media is of no cost use it to your advantage.Later, You can join National school of Drama for courses specific to acting. One of my friend took up 2 weeks acting workshop by Anupam kher in Mumbai but before this he had gone through grooming, dance classes, he is fit and got his portfolio ready. He has a huge fan following through instagram and dubsmash. I must mention he is very social. He stayed in Mumbai and within a week he got through an assignment in MTV while he was busy dancing at a club.It is a matter of luck too.

What is best career plan after completing graduation in b.tech (mechanical engineering)?

Well, after completing B.Tech in ME there are hell a lot of options for government jobs. The only thing you have to do is to have sound knowledge of mechanical engineering, i mean basic concepts and their application along with sound numerical solving capability which will come only by practice. Here i’m listing some of the options.Through GATEGet a decent rank in GATE (<500) and you surely will get an interview call from some of prestigious psu’s like BPCL, OIL, IOCL, NTPC, NHPC, OIL, GAIL, BHEL, MECL, MDL, NLC, NFL…….there are many more. All have a nice starting package (above 10 lac) and there is a provision for incentives and increments. For ranks around 500–900 you will get call from some of the companies, mostly oil companies.P.S : Cutoffs are different for different companies and tend to vary year to year.If your GATE rank is less than 600 then you can get IIT’S . Pursue you M.tech and you can go for lectureship in polytechnic colleges. Get a phd and you can apply for the post of assistant professor in engineering colleges. If GATE rank is around 100–200, then go for M.tech from IISC. After your course completion you can go for placement in government research labs or for higher studies.ESE (Engineering services exam)This is an exam conducted by UPSC. People clearing this exam are the topmost technocrats of the country. Competition is very rigorous so you have to work very hard for clearing this examination.State engineering servicesSome of the states also conduct their own examination for the recruitment of Graduate engineer trainees. These exams are quite similar to ESE and are a bit less hectic comparatively. I can remember Telangana state recruited around 200 engineers through exam last year (maybe more).Without GATEThere are many other psu’s which conduct their own examination for recruitment. Some of them are SAIL, VIZAG STEEL, ISRO, BARC, NPCIL etc.Look out for their vacancies and prepare for exam.So all the best for your endeavors.

Should I drop out of college to pursue an acting career?

I'm a guy who is studying engineering at a top engineering school and have been growing dissatisfied with my career choice. I worked as an intern at a tech giant this past summer and was surprised with some of the remarks I received from the other adults there. I was told that I 'should go major in girls' and was called 'pretty boy' often. Growing up, I never thought anything of my looks and was just a normal kid. Yet, after going off to college and working this summer, I'm starting to wonder whether I should drop out and pursue a career as an actor. I felt uncomfortable at the work place because of these verbal remarks and don't want to deal with that same feeling in the future, and I've already been hired back for this upcoming summer. One of my relatives is a creative director for some magazines in NYC. Should I try and get some headshots done and use my connections to make it in acting? Or should I deal with it and just get my degree? Other ideas?

Thanks for your time. I appreciate your honesty.

Is it possible to become a celebrity engineer?

yes with the right contacts

Should I become an Actor or a Software Engineer?

I LOVE everything related softwares, Android, iOS, Windows, Macintosh,,, etc... I also have good knowledge in softwares, computers (eg:How to create Win XP/ Win 7 bootable discs), mobiles,,, and many more things.... I have still not found anyone (OF MY AGE) who has knowledge more than me in PCs, etc..
***BUT***
I also love to act... AND I WANT TO BECOME AN ACTOR.... at least if not on the Big Screens... on the TV sets!
I'm TOTALLY confused what should I choose... I love softwares and acting both... not even a difference of 19-20 between them...
Now I've passed my SSC.. and I'm off seeking a good college for me..
IF I choose to do software engineering and take up science as my career, I don't think I could ever go into Acting...
WHAT should I do in order to 'not break' my dream of Acting?? Is it necessary for me to take up Science in 11th std. and do software engineering even if I want to become an Actor?
note: I also searched for Acting classes in my area. I couldn't find one.... I don't know if I really act good... and even if I act bad,, I assure that I'll be the best one if someone teaches me... 'cause the love for acting is immense!!

I'M GOING M.A.D. Tell me what to do?

Is it possible or stupid to major in aerospace engineering but minor in acting?

Im almost to the age where i have to start looking at colleges and what i want to do with my life. I cant cope with thinking super into things due to my anxiety. I would love to work at nasa or something with space, but then again i think it would be awesome to be someone that would have a an base and have fans wanting autographs and everything. but the problem with both is that i cant fly, i have really bad social anxiety, and my family doesnt believe that i can do anything (so its hard to get motivated).
I would like to work with space because, well, its space. How could someone not like working in exploring it?
I would like to be in the entertainment field because i like to dress up and role play and stuff. Whenever i cosply or anything my anxiety isnt as bad. However, once again, i cant fly. i have my reasons. and i also cant say my R's, so i dont know if i could ever do anything that involves speaking. Im really self conscious about it but i cant help it even with speech therapy.

first off, are either of these reasonable? and could i major and minor in these at once?
