Is Ballet Good Exercise

Good ballet warm-up exercises?

You mean stretches? I know some tips that may help!

~When we start stretching in class, our teachers always tell us to start with a stretch that as bbent knees. Usually, a good one would be butterfly: this is where you are sitting with your feet together and hips rotated, knees to the side. You can stretch forward to the floor in this pose.

~You could also do a stretch where you are sitting and have both legs out, and you bring in ONE leg with knee rotated outward. You could do this on both sides. Also, this stretch has more of an affect if you bend forward to the floor. (Both sides)

~If you also want to work on splits, you could do a stretch were you would have less a chance of pulling a muscle or tendom in your hamstring. This is where you are in a lunge, but instead of your back knee off the ground, you lower it, bent, on the ground. In this position, you can bend your front knee getting a good stretch for your splits. (Both sides)

~You could also do some things like plie's in parallel just to warm up the muscles. I find this helps me, but may not help others.

~You can also do some things standing up. Like:
-the torso twist
-Bending forward and touching your knees trying to get your head as close to your knees as possible, and bending to your different knees.

I hope this was in the least bit helpful ;)

Ballet exercises! HELP!?

It's great that you're so excited about ballet! In your classes, you should be doing stretches and other warmup exercises at the beginning of class. Continuing these at home is a good idea. You might also want to work on exercises that build core strength. Stomach crunches, squats, climbing stairs are all good. Try lying on your back, lifting both legs a foot off the floor, and holding them as long as you can.

Be careful not to do anything too strenuous, and if anything hurts, stop right away.

Happy dancing!

Exercises for pointe shoes/ballet?

Hi. I would like to know some exercises that help with pointe in ballet. I've been on pointe only for a month, but I'm really working on getting better at it. Any good exercises? Thanks.

Ballet bunheads exercise band, exercises?

depends what your looking to strengthen. I'll just assume your focusing on your feet & ankles.

1) sit with legs straight, take the band and put your toes on it (in the center of the band) in demi pointe. Pull the band tight (toward you). Point and flex.

2) same thing but with your legs bent to begin. Then pointe and flex using plie, bringing your knee toward you, then straighten and point.

3) Take the band and wrap it around your toes & ball of the foot. Pull the band toward the inside of your leg. You should have it so that the outside of your foot is in the center of the band (lengthwise) and both ends are being pulled in the opposite direction. Now bend your foot toward you other leg then back away from your body (against the pull of the band). This strengthens the muscle on the outside of your calf.

I know thats really confusing, but it's hard to explain. If you have a dance teacher or know someone who has used them before, you should ask them to show you. If you need further clarification just send me an email and I'll try to help. sad_panda000@yahoo.com

and as for band strength, I suggest getting medium. If you use a band thats really strong and you have weak feet, it can mess you up - you might subconciusly start using it wrong. If the medium band turns out to be weaker than you expected you can always just pull it tighter.

Good luck!

Is Ballet a Good Sport?

Of course dance is a sport. It is tons of fun and is very rigorous. many classify it as an art form, but it can be both. in dance you are required to strengthen and use every muscle in your body. you will work up to different levels and eventually go en pointe. i absolutely love it and it is a great way to spend you free time and stay in shape. there are places where you can go for beginners with people your age so you dont feel awkward in a class with kids a lot younger than you.

Will exercising (ballet barre & Pilates) twice a day for an hour each time create good muscle tone?

Yes, barre and Pilates are an awesome way to create a lean, strong physique. If you look at the body of a Ballet dancer you can see beautiful definition without any bulk. They don't use weights, it's just their own body weight and plenty of cardio that gets them their graceful bodies. I have been a consistent exerciser for over 20 years and discovered barre/pilates style training approximately 3 years ago. I can honestly say that I have had better results from this type of training than I did from heavy weights, circuit training, gym machines and boot camps. I think the secret is using all the smaller supporting muscle groups as well as the large ones so it is a very efficient way of exercising. If you are working out twice a day you have to be careful not to over-train. If you are only doing 30 mins morning and night then that is fine, but don't over-do it because you need to give your body time to recover. And of course all this goes along with a good diet. No amount of exercise will reveal your muscle definition if it is covered by too much fat! Hope that helps.
