Is Being In Boarding School Fun

Is boarding school fun?

I don't think there would be a benefit for going only a semester. Most classes last for the entire year, so there would most likely be a problem with your academics.
There are many boarding schools that offer summer classes. You could try this. It would give you a taste of the boarding life without the commitment of full-time enrollment. Here are some boarding schools that offer summer programs http://www.boardingschoolreview.com/summ...
You could also try going to boarding school next year, but be certain that your parents purchase tuition insurance. This way, if you decide that boarding school is not for you, they can receive part of the tuition back. You should give boarding school at least half a year before quitting. It takes time to adjust to a new life and make new friends.
For the right person at a school with a good fit, boarding school can be a very positive and life-changing experience. Have you visited any schools? If you start to visit schools I think you will not be as worried.
And yes, for the right student boarding school is fun. A typical boarding school has many activities over the weekend, including dances, trips to malls, nearby cities, local restaurants, etc.
Good luck!

How fun is it to go to boarding school?

Most fun boarding schools on the east coast?

My suggestion is that your sister visit some boarding schools in late April/early May. Many, but not all, boarding schools will allow a 7th grader to visit without having an interview. This way she can understand what her life would be like there.

Other than military schools, I am not aware of any boarding schools with uniforms. Most have dress codes, some more strict than others. She should research dress codes.

If a strong social life is important to her, most boarding schools offer multiple activities. In general, the boarding schools with a large boarding population will probably have a rich social life during the weekends. She should also search for schools in which her grades and SSAT scores put her around the top 25% of a typical class, and she should avoid the most competitive schools. That way, she should have time for a good social life.

Not knowing your sister and what her definition of "uptight" is, I am reluctant to suggest any schools. All the schools have rules, and most will expel a student caught with drugs or alcohol.

She can research boarding schools at www.boardingschoolreview.com, www.schools.com and www.petersons.com. There is a wealth or information and misinformation on this discussion board http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/prep...

Good luck to your sister!

Is Boarding school good or bad?

Great & congratulations on being accepted to one of the Prestigious boarding school. Although, you miss your home and your loving dog. But you'll get use to it in couple of days during the time at boarding school. Besides, there are number of other benefits being at boarding school, so don't worry...It's altogether a great & fun time. I would like to quote here benefits of most of the boarding school from a source site, http://www.myboardingschool.com/ProsNconsboardingschool.html ,
that relates, 1) Benefits of most boarding schools:
2) Daily coexistence leads to friendships, not just among students, but also with faculty members.
3) Low student-teacher ratio. The median class size is 12 students per teacher, with a student-to-teacher ratio of 6 to 1.
4) Boarding school reduces compartmentalization, because academic studies are blended with other activities, such as sports. This natural juxtaposition increases the appeal of both pursuits.
5) Provides stability not available in families where one or both parents travel or are virtually never home due to work schedules.
6) Safety of individuals residing in boarding school is typically higher than non boarding school age students in general.
7) Special help programs are often available.
8) Students enjoy more challenge and face fewer harmful distractions. If the student's public school options are rife with bad influences or lack diversity, boarding school may be the answer.
9) Students learn to govern their own behavior. And parents no longer have to seem like ogres or nags. In many cases students appreciation for parents greatly increases.
10) Where earlier generations have attended the institution, a family tradition is sustained -- becoming an additional source of motivation
11) Some schools have summer sessions, possibly also open to students of other schools. These sessions often feature special concentrations such as academic or computer instruction and/or the fine arts. Some offer sports and/or rigorous outdoor training during the summer.
12) Some Boarding schools offer a post-high school graduation development program, which can provide additional opportunity to mature, perfect academic polish and further develop themselves becoming better prepared to be an adult in today’s world.

What are some boarding school stories?

Outside food was a dream… until some students devised this hack.Prologue:We were not allowed to bring eatables from home. With no other choice left, hostel food was our last resort. We had a doctor visiting our campus regularly. But he was a general practitioner. So, for any severe medical condition, he always referred the case to a specialist doctor outside the campus. This implied that the warden would take the student to the doctor’s clinic or hospital. The Story:An idea struck a student. Two students, S1 & S2, would go to the doctor pretending to have some serious problem. Both of them pretended to have different problems. As expected, the doctor would refer their cases to two different specialist doctors, D1 and D2.STUDENTS: S1, S2DOCTORS: D1, D2The warden takes both the students on a medical outing to the doctors in the evening. While warden takes S1 to D1, S2 is supposed to stay in the Ambulance. Now, S2 easily convinces the driver (which was easy), rushes to the nearby food stall and returns back quickly before the warden comes back. S1 does the same when warden takes S2 to another doctor.Epilogue:This hack spread like wild fire. Outside food no more remained a dream for the hostellers ;)Ref: The TWO medical rules of my hostel:Image Source: (SRMPS: Modern Public School in Lucknow India)Edit:The fun just doubled when my school Principal read this answer. Here's her reply. And all you guys gave us sleepless nights. Now we realise we had given many sleepless nights. Ma’am, were you aware of this fact before this answer?Another friend shares his memory of how he faked a sprain to get a medical outing and ends up getting his legs plastered for a month for no good reason. Pity.

What if I am being forced to go to a boarding school?

In my opinion, you should definitely go to Boarding schools. I’ve seen hundreds of students flourish in the rich culture of learning, friendship, arts, athletics and intellectual discourse. Why? Because boarding schools are twenty-four hour, intentional communities created with the student’s growth and development at the centre.Education from International Schools plays an important role in moulding a child. It has their own set of advantages, for a child to enrol in a boarding school as opposed to day school education.
