Is Bluetooth 5.1 Sound Transmission Possible

I am trying to get my PS4 to stream sound through a Bluetooth speaker, but I get a message saying the profile is not supported. What should I do?

There are now multiple ways for you to stream your local DRM-free media files to your PS4 by using the “Media Player” app. Your PS4 can even play unprotected local music files in MP3 or AAC (M4A) formats in the background while you play a game. I find this is the quickest and easiest way to stream music to PS4, i even figure out how to stream my apple music tracks to PS4 by following the steps in the tutorial below. Hope it helps.3 ways to stream Apple Music on iPhone to PS4

Can I wirelessly transfer 5.1 channel sound over bluetooth to my soundbar?

Bluetooth is very old technology and it was developed when stereo was the cutting edge sound so dont expect any miracles. As stated by others bluetooth will give you 2 channel sound with a very ordinary bitrate. You can forget FLAC and all the other lossless formats, once they pass through the Bluetooth system they will end up about the same as an MP3.I have a pair of fairly good dual circuit head phones (Bluetooth and Cable) these have obviously had a fair bit of tweaking at the factory because the Bluetooth doesn't sound too bad but when they are connected by cable the difference is amazing.Don't get me wrong, Bluetooth has its place, I use Bluetooth phones while working, exercising, even while mowing the grass, in situations where orchestral quality isn't required the portability is a winner. The $64,000 question is, how long will Bluetooth last. Probably a long time especially where a lower quality sound is acceptable. But for HIFI audio situations I suspect the writing is on the wall. WIFI may well replace Bluetooth, better bandwidth, much greater range and most of us already have WIFI in our homes and businesses. If you want cutting edge there is a new technology thats been under development for 3 or 4 years, The new VIRTUS chipset can transfer data at 2 gigabits/s with only low power requirements making it a contender for Bluetooth replacement in smart connected devices such as tablets and smartphones. Watch this space.

Does Bluetooth home theatre speakers like Sony RT3 soundbar plays "true" 5.1 via Bluetooth?

Yes definitely it will offer true 5.1 surround sound experience. Sony has great reputation in the sound system market and the products they deliver are high in quality and long lasting. Therefore you can surely try Sony sound systems for experiencing ultimate sound experience.

Does Bluetooth have enough bandwidth to support 5.1 audio?

The tougher issue with 5.1 sound over Bluetooth is synchronization for the sounds from each speaker as well as with the image on the screen. (Lip sync.) The sound source would send sound information to each speaker in turn, one after the other, like dealing cards. If the speaker immediately plays sounds received, there will be slight differences between each speaker. If each speaker buffers the sound until all the sound has been delivered such that they all play the sound for a given time, additional latency is introduced. (Buffering and timing requirements are also introduced with this solution.) This latency can grow such that a voice is heard well after you see their lips move on the display which is very awkward to watch. The video can be delayed to allow for the latency, but the timing issue continues to grow as more things are delayed and timed to occur together. There are issues to create such a solution, but companies have spent the effort to do so. I don’t know the quality of these solutions as I haven’t personally tried them.

Will it ever be possible to simulate a surround sound using only one speaker?

HAHA!It takes approximately 20,000 speakers to simulate real surround sound. Those funny shaped, skin-covered cartilage acoustic devices on the side of your head are directional phase encoders. They transmit real 3D vector information to the inner ear. Combined with frequency, amplitude and time difference information between the pair of ears, this gives us about 1 degree resolution for sound waves, and a half sphere has about 20,000 one degree segments.2 channel, 5.1 channel and 32 channel audio are fake stereo which we learn to hear as real after hundreds of hours listening. In fact, 99.9% of audio is overlaying (mixing) monophonic signals into two or more speakers (panning), which by Shannon’s Law is only a few dozen more bytes information per song and speaker than mono. On a three minute stereo WAV file, that is less than .0003% additional information.
