Is Cardio Training Enough To Lose Weight

Is cardio alone enough to lose weight?

I'm a 19 year old male and I'm 6'1ft and around 210-215 lbs. So yea I'm a little overweight. I lose and gain weight pretty fast so I was wondering if I can just do cardio to lose about 30 pounds.

My goal is 180-190 and last summer I was about the same weight I am now and lost about 30 pounds and got to 180 pounds. Long story short, I got lazy over the winter and didn't work out and ate a lot of crap. Back then, I mostly did 45 min of cardio after a good weight lifting session. But now that I'm out of shape from being lazy and smoking butts, I feel like I can only do cardio and that it takes every fiber in my body to lift.

So what I'm asking is if I can lose 30 pounds by just doing 30-45 min on an elliptical trainer 3-4 times a week until I get in better shape. Last year when I lost the weight I just did cardio in the beginning and gradually transitioned into weight lifting. So what do you think?

30 minutes cardio & 30 minutes weight training?

You sound really motivated! I think you should do 45 minutes cardio and 30 minutes weight training, but only do it 6 days a week so your body can get some rest; that actually helps muscles develop faster. On the day you don't exercise, though, eat about 1200 calories, and don't eat any sugar or junk, b/c if you're not exercising it will go straight to fat.
Try mixing up your routine also. So if you normally jog on the treadmill for cardio, swim the next day, and take a 5-mile-walk the day after that. The swimming will tone muscles that walking and jogging can't reach. But walking/jogging are great for your legs.

One last thing: for your strength training, be sure to do weights, lunges, squats, situps, and pushups--those are the most important exercises. Also stationary bicycle helps flatten your tummy: try http://exercise.about.com/od/abs/ss/abex... for how to do it.

Good luck! =)

Is cardio enough to lose weight?

One correction before we get into this. I think what you and your trainer are both trying to talk about is fat loss. Weight loss does not need cardio or weight training. You just have to consume less calories than your body burns. It’s that simple.Exercise is just a way to burn of some extra calories. However, with weight loss, it can be anything from muscle to fat and even just water weight. Hence we try to trick our body into burning fat instead of muscle. The principle is still the same - consume less calories than you would burn. But the way you do it is different. Now, coming to the question,Is cardio enough to lose weight? For fat loss, I would say no. But then again, you could give HIIT a try and see for yourself. The ideal answer is there is no set of golden rules that would work for everybody. A lot of this would ultimately come by personal preference alone. Which is why I might favor weight training above steady state or HIIT cardio. It’s not because they are bad or less effective. It is simply because I prefer to work with weights. But that doesn’t mean you can’t look ripped with the help of HIIT cardio and some decent body weight workouts. But if you are going to the gym to do all that; you might as well just do it back home. So, you could give weight training a go. Compared to cardio, weight training have shown to cause a slight increase in the amount of calories your body burns while at rest. This effect could last for up to 24–36 hours depending on the intensity. The same applies to HIIT if you are doing it the right way.Of course, when I say weight training am not counting on you to bicep curls alone. Take up compounded lifts like squats and deadlifts. Do them with the correct form and with ample intensity at least once a week. Spare some time for cardio. Above all, watch what you eat. Remember, veggies first, include a lot of protein, and drink a lot of water.

Is 20 minutes of cardio enough for me to lose weight?

I'm 16 years old I weigh about 250 I'm 5"6 and I wanted to know Is 20 mins of cardio enough to lose weight? I'm going to start to eat 1,000-1,200 calories a day and since I'm younger and heavier am I going to start losing fast? How many pounds will I lose a week? I heard this over weight girl lost 50lb in 2 months without diet or that much exercise. I was going to do 20 minutes of cardio twice a day is that enough?

Is doing cardio enough to lose fat?

It is if you want to be trapped doing cardio for the rest of your life to keep the lost weight off.A better route is to add muscle to your body.  While "cardio" burns calories (maybe fat, maybe not) while you are engaging in it, so say 30 minutes 5X a week, added muscle burns calories 24/7, even when you are sleeping.I did t gain muscle to use it to get lean, but I've learned from my 35 years of experience that when I added that 50 pounds of muscle in the mid-1980s (I graduated HS weighing 160 pounds and built up to 210 over 4 years while in the military) I've NEVER had any problem with excess dad again.  And even when I was 160, I had a lot of fat compared to muscle. Now that I am carrying more muscle, I'm virtually impervious to gaining much fat.  I might fluctuate 10-15 pounds.  When my belt gets tight, I just cut out about 3/4 of the  bread, milk, and junk food I normally eat and off comes the little fat I gained.Putting on muscle is the best LIFETIME weigh/fat management plan there is, bar none.

Is 30 minutes of cardio a day good enough to lose weight?

I have to lose fat to be healthier, and so I've begun spinning 30 minutes a day. I tried an hour every day but that takes up so much of my time and I get extremely bored.

But I was just wondering - is 30 minutes a day of this cardio enough for weight loss, if I drink excess amounts of water and make a huge effort to eat well?

And how many months do you think it would take for me to see results?

Please let me know how sure you are with your answers!

1 hour cardio, 30 minutes strength training. will i lose weight?

Today was my first day back to the gym after having my babies (twins). I was previously 130 pounds before getting pregnant and now I am a little over 150. I ran for 30 minutes, did circuit training for 30 minutes, then ran again for 30 minutes. This is no where near how much I used to work out, but is it enough to lose weight? I am a social worker and I sit in an office all day, so I really do no other exercise besides what happens at the gym.
My diet is good- lots of fruits, veggies, and protein.
I'm going to the gym once daily... thinking about making it twice a day though- gotta get bikini ready for hawaii in 2 months.
