Is Cursing A Sin I Keep Hearing Different Opinions

Is cussing/cursing/swearing a sin?

I personally believe it's not a sin to (as long as it's not used against someone) cuss/curse and I'll explain why.

First off, lets say for example that the people who created the english language made the word for sex f**k and that sex was considered the cuss word among society. Do you believe it would be a sin for someone who is discussing sex (or in this society; f**k) with their spouse it would be a sin? And then if the person happens to use the word sex (which is considered profane in this society) then *gasp* it's a sin! Or what if the common word for poop was s**t then it would be a sin to say that you have to go #2? And then suddenly a sin when they say they poop say they have to go? Or what if society the bad word for A** was something totally random like "Oka Buka" or something. Do you honestly believe God would considered me a sinner because i talk about my "Oka Buka"?

Then also con cider the wide diversity of language all over the world. There are (just looked it up) about 6700 languages on the planet. And I'm sure that at least in one of those there is a common word that means something different (let's bowl) say that sounds a lot like an english curse word. Do you think their sinning every time they talk about a bowl?

Now I don't deny the fact that it is a sin to curse AGAINST someone such as "D**n you." But it's just as much so the same type of sin to tell someone they're just worthless or to insult them.
Or if you call someone a butt it's not a sin and then if you an a** then it suddenly is? I believe both are.
The words that are considered curse words among society are just words. If it was a sin to use curse words (as long as their not against someone) then it would just as much so to butt or sex or any of the other words.

What do you think? Leave your opinion on this. I'm curious to hear it.

Cursing: A Sin or Just hurts your testimony...?

I think it depends on where God has placed you in ministry to others and the opportunities He brings. Working with those in prisons and jail... well, I believe God can use certain people who have accepted Him to bring ministry to those who might never be reached otherwise. The guys that go into jails in suit and ties, preaching Fundamentalistic viewpoints... yikes!

"In your anger do not sin." Does that apply to cursing? I can't answer that for anyone but myself. I know that God knows my heart. This is simply what I believe, although, I know others will disagree.

It's actually quite an interesting discussion and a good question. Star for you!

Is cursing considered a sin in christianity?

Thanks for the ATA, Joshua Borland.Answer: They are just words. The foulness, harshness, dirtiness, unlovingness, etc. are all culturally defined. When I was a kid, "that sucks" was a pretty graphic phrase. Partially because I was a kid, partially because it was still not quite mainstream. Now, my mother-in-law says it like it's nothing. If I were to reply, "sucks what?" there would be shades of embarrassment  all over our faces. This is because we know that it means "suck dick," something quite crass, yet by the miracle of human speech and semantic prepackaging we are able to gloss right over this. Another example is "circle jerk." Incredibly crude at this point, but maybe 10-20 years from now it will be just a phrase that gets the message across without us ever batting an eye from thinking about the graphic imagery that is at the root of the expression. So there's some general communicative ideas to start off with. This is precisely why Jesus can say in Matthew 5.22 the word he is talking about—Raca—instead of doing our silly, modern dance-around: "the 'R' word." Imagine a pastor today, from the pulpit on a Sunday morning, saying something like: "If you say to your brother, 'Fuck you!' then you're liable to the council." Wouldn't go over well, would it? They'd probably get half flogged in most churches for even saying "the 'F' word." This, as Al Klein points out in the beginning of his post, is not Christianity in any biblical sense. It's cultural Christianity, plain and simple.Sowing discord, defaming someone's character, speaking hurtfully or hatefully without any words we consider crass or a curse. These are all things we're quite capable of using our tongues for. This is the fire from hell that sets the world ablaze James says (James 2).TL;DR: there are plenty of ways our mouths can fuck up without uttering a curse word.

Is swearing a sin?

It is definitely a sin to swear (curse, cuss, etc.). The Bible makes this abundantly clear. Ephesians 4:29 tells us, "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen." First Peter 3:10 declares, "For, whoever would love life and see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from deceitful speech." James 3:9-12 summarizes the issue: "With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God's likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be. Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring? My brothers, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water."Jesus explained that what comes out of our mouths is that which fills our hearts. Sooner or later, the evil in the heart comes out through the mouth in curses and swearing. But when our hearts are filled with the goodness of God, praise for Him and love for others will pour forth. Our speech will always indicate what is in our hearts. "The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks"

What are your opinions on sloths?

totally agree!

What are your views on swearing (using cuss words)?

I view cussing as completely offensive. It gets under my skin when I am out with my kids and someone feels free to let the garbage shoot open clearly in earshot of the kids. It is inexcusable.

I think for a lot of people it gives them a sense of power, especially if they are not mature adults yet.

For others I think it is a very bad habit. Worse than smoking or biting your nails, it is in a class all itself.

I don't care how much I like someone otherwise, I will not spend time with them if they are habitual "garbage shooters".

Ya think I have strong feelings on this one? Your right!

AND I once again point straight to the parents for being the example on this one.( Even if it is simply allowing their kids to be friends with who ever they want). It isn't just about being an example, it is also monitoring who your children spend their time with.

Whew!
P.S. I don't voice my opinion to others in person. No point. I don't like it but I deal with it in my own way.

What is a "generational curse"?

Starts in Exodus 20:4-6

4 "You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 but showing love to a thousand {generations} of those who love me and keep my commandments.

These can be broken very easily.
Verse 6 tells you that if you Love God and keep his commandments, you will be blessed for a thousand generations.

Turn to God and break the curse. Turn the curse into a blessing.

Is it a sin for me as a Christian to listen to music that curses or is talking about sin? It doesn’t weaken my faith at all, but I just want to know the answer. I love A7X, Gojira, and Avatar. Nothing satanic.

There is no sin, necessarily, in what you “consume;” the sin is whatever might come of it.Jesus said:“And when he had called all the people unto him, he said unto them, Hearken unto me every one of you, and understand: There is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him: but the things which come out of him, those are they that defile the man. If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.”- Mark 7: 14–16The key word here is “defile,” which should essentially be taken to mean “make unclean or unholy.”So listening to the music or the profanity is not necessarily the sin. The sin comes when what you consume begins to influence your thoughts, your words, or your actions. THAT is what defiles you.Elsewhere, the scriptures teach that you will reap what you sow; so if you’re constantly surrounding yourself with profanity and unholiness, you will probably eventually begin to think and say profane and unholy things. If you truly “hunger and thirst after righteousness,” then you will eventually lose your taste for unrighteous things such as profanity and unholy music. But don’t fret - your heart is in the right place in even asking the question. Just make this a matter of prayer and take your question to God in prayer, and listen for the answer in your heart, which will come through that “still, small voice” that will teach you wisdom. Only God knows your heart, so only God can give you the correct answer for you, based on the true desires of your heart and the Lord’s plan and desires for YOU.May God bless you in your choices!

Is cussing or saying bad words a sin even though it is man made and in what context it is said?

Yes, using foul language/cursing is considered sin.Romans 12:1414Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not.Ephesians 4:2929 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.Words contain energy. The context is important because when certain words are used in a negative context to humiliate or disrespect a person/thing, it’s considered a curse word. Curse words possess a negative energy. Life and death are in the power of the tongue and Jesus said, “My words are spirit and they are life.” Curse words represent death.Example- ass means a long-eared, slow, patient, sure-footed domesticated mammal,Equus asinus, related to the horse, used chiefly as a beast of burden.Ass also means a stupid, foolish, or stubborn person. In the second example it would be considered a bad/curse word. It does not edify a person to be called this term.
