Is Detroit As Dangerous As They Say It Is

Is Detroit as dangerous as people say it is?

My brother and his wife live in Windsor, Ontario and my girlfriend and I go down to visit every so often (we are from Toronto), and we usually go down to the waterfront to see the Detroit skyline, but we have never actually gone across to Detroit. We are going down this weekend, and we were thinking of going over to Detroit but my brother and his wife insist that it's dangerous there. I have heard all the stereotypes of Detroit, but are they actually true? If we went downtown, to the park or Belle Isle, would it really be dangerous?

Is Detroit dangerous during the day?

Giving that I've lived in Detroit for 10 years in a row , I'll be the first to tell you the simple answer is No.I even have videos of me walking around Detroit for hours in the residential areas.Nothing is gonna simply happen.People aren't just going to simply attack you , it isn't like Afghanistan or somewhere that's war stricken , hundreds of thousands of people live in Detroit and many of them are normal people living their lives. You can go to the grocery store , store , church practically anywhere.Of course something can happen but the frequency of something actually happening to you is low especially if you don't have any problems with anyone , i for one have been all over the west side of Detroit top to bottom and nothing has ever happened to me.There's no boogeyman waiting to get you dude.If you go pretty much anywhere in Detroit night and day it's going to be quiet 99% of the time ,Whenever things do happen in Detroit it's likely personal affairs and even then it doesn't happen to the vast majority very few actually when comparing the population as a whole , the media will make Detroit seem like world War 3 on steroids when in fact , Detroit for the most part is regularly peaceful when it's not , incidents do happen like in any big city maybe even a few more times per person , but it happens to few and that happens mainly because issues that's been hurting Detroit for for years directly and indirectly , but Detroit has been actually progressing quite quickly and for the better.

How dangerous is Detroit?

For the most part, Detroit is only as dangerous as you are stupid. Are you able to comfortably talk to black people and are you are not an awkward suburban/country type nor a racist?Do you know how to mind your own business? Can you control your temper? Can you avoid going places you don’t belong?Do you not snitch? Can you avoid attempts to buy drugs from people you don’t know well and are not being introduced to?Can you drive safely through the neighborhoods?Do you understand that you’re a guest in this city? And finally, can you walk through a city like you belong there and not look like a target? If you answered ‘Yes’ to all of the above questions, you’re probably going to be okay. When bad things happen to out of town people, its generally failing at one of the above things. Being racist, trespassing, hitting a child with a car, knocking on the door of a guy you heard sells drugs, getting in someone else’s affairs. People do and will continue to be killed or beaten for these things in Detroit. The biggest risk factor for random acts of violence is acting like you don’t belong there. Being overly cautious in appearance, looking nervous, etc.Do things still happen if you follow the above? Sometimes, yeah. But, most things that happen are attributable to failing at one of the above questions.

What is the most dangerous corner in Detroit?

in your opinion what is the most dangerous corner in Detroit?

or maybe in your country?

Is chicago more dangerous than detroit?

"More Dangerous?"

Slipping in your shower can be dangerous... any place you go for that matter is dangerous if you are naive enough...

This is an impossible question to answer, saying that one place would be deemed 'safe' while the other 'dangerous' is a reckless assumption....

Skydiving and bull fighting can be perfectly safe if you know what you are doing, the same applies when traveling in a large city... you have to be mature and carry yourself with caution and diligence and you'll have the best chances of never encountering a dangerous situation in the first place...

Is Detroit Really As Dangerous As People Say?

Detroit is the most dangerous city in the United States of America and in the State of Michigan. Flint, Michigan is ranked in the top five most dangerous city in America as well.

Is living in Detroit Dangerous?

I can't believe some of the responses. Dearborn and Southfield are the nicest suburbs? Please. There are nice areas like Flint? Flint isnt a Detroit suburb and its in worse shape. Some people clearly have zero idea of what they speak about.
Detroit is a very dangerous area for a police officer. But what city is not dangerous for the PD. Detroit has a large amount of homicide. The good news is that Detroit ranks about 15th in the nation in gang activity. You will not get hurt in Detroit because of the color of your skin, only because of the ignorance of your mind.
From what I understand Detroit SWAT is the best in the nation, Detroit will get you a ton more action if thats what you are into. Plus working in Detroit as a Police Officer is a serious resume builder.

Once you become DPD every other law enforcement job is a walk in the park. Until you go to Washington DC, NYPD, or the LAPD(gang central).

Good Luck and welcome to our wonderful city.

Is Clark Park Detroit dangerous?

I just found out from my boss today that he plans on sending me to a job in SW Detroit. It is a new school being built near Clark Park. The address is 1200 Scotten St. I have map quested it and it seems close to the freeway, at least I would not have to roam through many different streets and neighborhoods. I also looked at a google map street view of the area and it looks like it is a pretty kept up area. However I talked to a coworker today who grew up in the Clark Park area and also worked there. He told me that the area is very bad. He had many things stolen from him while working there and also had someone rob him at knife point. Unfortunately I will probably be laid off if I do not take this job. But I would rather be broke than have to worry about my safety everyday. If anyone is very familiar with this area, then please let me know how things really are there. Thank you.
