Is Gackt Still Popular In Japan

Is gackt popular in japan?

He's really famous in Japan and is on TV all the time (including various commercials). Plenty of girls think he's hot, although some consider him too weird. I remember one of my friends saying that she disliked Gackt because "he is always going on TV and talking about his underwear."

Gackt may actually be more popular as an actor and TV personality than as a musician. When I lived in Japan a few years ago, everyone knew who he was but no one I knew listened to his music much. I had a few friends who thought Gackt was really sexy, but they didn't care about his songs. However, he seems to have become more successful since then, and had a #1 hit single this past summer.

Oh, you may know this already, but if you ever want to ask a Japanese person about Gackt in conversation then his name is pronounced "Gackto". When I first said "Gackt" no one knew what I was talking about!

Why is Japan so popular?

I don't necessarily hate the japanese or anything, but I just don't understand why so many people in America see it as the oh-so wonderful asian paradise.
Is it because of the anime?
Being asian, I've said "I'm from Asia" and have gotten the responses "Oh, you mean Japan?" or "You must be Japanese! (Random japanese words from animes such as Kawaii Desu or Neko etc)" once or twice.
A lot of the people I know have "Going to Japan" as the #1 goal in their life, and it's pretty annoying since they think Japan is the only asian country out there.
I'm actually quite surprised the Japanese aren't seen negatively, despite all the damage they've done in WWII.
Why is Japan so popular?

Is Gackt Camui popular in Japan?

very popular not only as a musician but also an actor.

Two years ago he played Uesugi Kenshin in the NHK drama Fuurin Kazan. For the last two years he has gone to a festival in Niigata to replay the role at a samurai festival. Alot of people especially girls came out just to see him.

you can see him as Uesugi at the festival in the intro to these two vids:

What's popular in Japan?

I can tell you what isn't popular in Japan... the XBox 360.

Japan does rock tho. So humble. I love it.

Is Gackt popular in japan???(he a Japanese singer )?

He is popular, but a lot of Japanese people think he is strange. He's mainstream, but maybe he's comparable to someone like Marilyn Manson in America. What I mean is, although he is very well known and populary, there is a specific group of people that like him, and a lot of other people that know who he is, but they think he's weird.

Believe me, if you go to Japan and talk about Japanese music and you say your favorite Japanese singer is Gackt, people will often give you strange looks, because they think he is strange.

It's pervasive but I wouldn't call it "popular".  Here's how it worksAnime (but mostly the written form, "Manga") is everywhere and not just in the form of comic books. It's used to explain how to sort your garbage, it's used to tell you not to harass people in trains, it's used to make a product more cute (kawaii). WHY?I could argue that the Japanese are masters of design and have learned that images convey meaning faster than text.I could take an art-historical perspective and say that it goes back to ukyo-e  wood block prints that became popular in the 16th century.  I could go logical and say people spend a LOT of times on trains and comics are an easy form of entertainmentI could go anthropological and say that it's because japanese think it's always been that way and are pretty in to the whole "I do this because everyone does this" mentality. That being said, let's talk about "popular". It's not, and you're not if you're really into it.I think this is the biggest shock for foreigners who go to Japan.  Anime is not cool.  Being an "otaku" is not cool, not even in the ironic sense.  Most people I knew in the US who were in to anime weren't exactly the popular kids (myself included) and assumed that going to japan everything would change.  Like, magically, you'd be in this world where everyone had the same interests and you'd have all these people to talk to who totally get you and think you're cool. That's. Not. How.  It. Works. The reality is that being into anime in Japan is just as frowned upon as being into anime anywhere else.  The major difference is that it IS everywhere so, if you want to get lost in anime, you totally can and a lot of people do (so maybe this is the popular part?) but, doing so is not something to aspire to, and not something that's well viewed by the majority of native Japanese, or foreign ex-pats.

I still watch it, but not as much - so -its really a subjective question. If you watch alot of it - its popular for you. 10 years ago you had some really interesting anime coming out - Naruto, one piece, bleach - yet they ran for hundreds and hundreds of episodes - 10 years later and Naruto is still big - so where are all the new really great anime - its hard to count them even on one hand. AND WEIRD - have you seen the one were its a guy without his skin TITAN something - holy crap how did that even get approved it's super gross!! (i recently gave titans a chance - turns out its a really well done story, and high quality animation not what i was expecting the initial skinless people turned me off to it, but its again one of those really really really crazy japanese anime that works. Now it has a big following!! so who can tell these things!!) Dont get me wrong there is plenty of good anime out there, but where are the greats for the current era? Akira was one of the best anime I'd had ever seen many years ago - and it sets the bar for what could be the top anime. Anime would be more popular if it didn't have such weird concepts in so many anime. I've met less and less people who are into anime - but on the same token i live in L.A. and you have these conventions that say anime is bigger than ever. So locally its not, but if you look at conventions its still huge and very popular. Cos play is bigger than ever now too, So that aspect of it is alive and well. I'd just like to see more interesting and less weird anime come out from japan. Its been awhile since i answered this question - 2017 was good year for anime, lots of good stuff has come out, so today i’d say anime is probably more popular because it has gone MAINSTREAM. The anime fan is here to stay, and growing around the world. GO japan.

How does "Spades"get popular in Japan?

Spades, everyone must knows it here though, is quite unknown in Japan. There are usually just around 30 or 40 people in the game site of Spadeds in Yahoo!Japan.
when I played the game for the first time 7 years ago, I really felt exciting. Then, I've enjoyed it almost every week in Yahoo! of both Japan and US.
So, I'd love to tell more Japanese the interest of it nowadays. How can I do that?
Could you give me some pieces of advice, please? Thanks.

Probably not nearly as popular as K-pop has become since Gangnam Style.
