Hi,Please see my answers in Any great learning apps like Mango? • r/Urduhigh level a few different ideas:Memrise - Unlock your language learning superpowers! ‘darvazah a door into urdu’http://taj.chass.ncsu.edu/urdu/i...http://taj.chass.ncsu.edu/urdu/m...C naim book contains many readers with a lot of vocab and grammar. You will need to learn how to read/write urduhttp://dsal.uchicago.edu/books/ word glossaries for the stores are at the end of volume 1urdu readers are at the end of volume2‘Teach yourself urdu’ https://www.amazon.com/Teach-You...I also take classes over skype at Zabaan Language Institute. For a cost per hour. Very helpful and I am currently going over the readers in c naim with Ali who is the owner of zabaan.com. He is a very cool guy as well as being very knowledgeable about urdu/hindi.I also leverage a website called Learn Urdu Online with Podcasts - UrduPod101 (free, but with paid options that are very helpful). They have good lessons with audio which is helpful for listening comprehension. Also you can sign up to have a teacher work with you. Hamza is my current teacher there and he has been also helpful answering questions and will provide a learning path if you are interested. I’m currently working through the provided modules there as well. I’d recommend liking the urdupod101 facebook page as they provide a TON of free useful learning material. They also have an amazon alexa app Amazon.com: Daily Dose by Innovative Language: Alexa Skills which will do daily beginner lessons.Lastly, I practice all the time with my wife who is a native urdu speaker, but she was never formally trained in urdu. This makes it a bit hard for her to teach me beyond some casual vocab (conversational) and basic grammar. She is also like your parents.. not a good teacher. You just need to start talking to them all the time in urdu if you can.Overall it is a lot of work, but since you grew up with it… it should help a lot.

Can I learn Urdu and Russian at the same time?

I think, I can answer this question, because I know both languages. Russian is my mother tongue and I have learnt Urdu via Hindi and Farsi. Learning Urdu and Russian together is, of course, possible, but you will have to consider a few things.Russian and Urdu are quite different from each other. The good thing about it is that you will not confuse words or grammar constructions while learning, but, at the same time you will have to memorize hell a lot for each language separately. Both Russian and Urdu have their own scripts, different from English. Learning both Cyrillic and Perso-Arabic scripts is not easy and will take time.Pronunciation. Here it must be a bit easier as many sounds are same. Luckily, Russian does not have nasal and aspirated sounds, which Urdu has. Compare to Urdu, Russian sound system is less complex.Vocabulary. Very different. Most of Russian words are of Slavic origin (plus Greek/Latin/English/French/German borrowings). Urdu is a mixture of local Indian words with Persian and Arabic. These fields barely overlap, so for each language you will have to study separately.Grammar. Russian is well-known for its very difficult grammar. 3 genders, 6 cases and many other lovely surprises will be waiting for you. In this case, Urdu grammar is more similar to the English one (Urdu, though, has different word order and postpositions).Russian and Urdu both are relatively difficult languages for a native English speaker. They both require a lot of time and effort. The best strategy would be to spend some time learning one language only and then to add another one. If you are willing to study both at the same time, be prepared to work hard, especially during first weeks when you learn the scripts and basic grammar.

What are some benefits of learning Urdu?

I want to make quite some points here:Urdu is more closely related to Haryanvi through Khari Boli than either Persian or Arabic. Most people get taken in by the script or the vocabulary which is Persian/ Arabic. But the script is not the language the syntax is.Thus Urdu is a living proof of the amalgamation of cultures. This will teach you to appreciate things that are profound and deep and not just get carried away by what things appear to be.The last time we knew when English werent ruling, Urdu was the language of royalty. For a better appreciation of the native Indian culture which wasnt polluted by colonialism knowing Urdu is a must. The last best version of Indian culture is preserved in Urdu.Urdu comes from the same root word as “Horde” . It developed in the market places where Turkish, Indian, Persian troops interacted. That is the power just meeting and chatting each other up.We get to know from reliable sources that ‘umra e dilli’ the Elite of Delhi used to send their children to Tawaifs to learn the subtle nuances of their culture through their pristine Urdu. The best aspects of Culture can be preserved at seemingly worst places. After learning Urdu you might be pleasantly surprised to know how much Indian Movies and thus Indian art/culture are indebted to it. It is another thing all songs , dialogues are mostly written in Urdu and transliterated for actors and singers to Hindi. One language’s symboitic relation with another helps both thrive. And much more: Tired typing. More for some other occassion.

Is Hindi/Urdu easier than Arabic to learn?

Ok, do not listen to the person above me. Urdu is ALSO written from right to left JUST like Arabic because Urdu is combination of Persian and Arabic (mostly Persian). Urdu has words from different langauges so it's easier than Arabic and grammar is also easier but Urdu, overall, is much harder to learn than Hindi.
