Is It Ever Too Late To Go To College

Is it ever too late to transfer colleges?

It depends on the school you want to transfer to. Most programs have restrictions where you have to finish a certain number of junior and senior level credit hours there in order to earn a diploma. For example, when I transferred to the University of Maryland CS program (years ago), I had to finish the last 30 credits of coursework there in order to graduate. Some places require more or less.

Credits transfer differently between different schools. You may be able to transfer all of them, or significantly less than that. If you're seriously considering a transfer, you should narrow down your choices to a few schools now and find out what coursework would transfer. That may help make up your mind.

As far as making new friends, the most solid friendships I had in undergrad started in my junior and senior years. Then again, I transferred to a large school. If you're looking at transferring to a teeny tiny private college, then yes, I would guess you'd have to deal with pre-established cliques.

Is it to late to go to college at 21?

So I just wondering is to late to go to college out of state at 21 I went from out of highschool to working, I never went to college is it to late for out of state college? Or do i have to start at Community College then transfer?

I'm 40. Is it too late to go back to college?

Absolutely not! I went back to college for my second time at 41 years old right after getting out of the army. I chose to take a few freshman level courses for refresher courses that I knew I would need (English 101, Math) before jumping into my degree plan. You will be surprised how much you forget over the years. Anyways my classmates were my son and nephew’s age 18–21 year olds and know the material very wells and they have always had technology on their side and know how to use it. . It can be a humbling experience to have a classmate your kids age tutoring you or explaining something you though you already knew but was wrong. Lol! It doesn’t bother me and even though I am single and love the ladies and there are some cuties in some of my classes I never go there. I don’t hang out with them outside of the classroom unless for study groups. I keep things on a professional academic level and always show respect.Mine more thing:My 72 year old retired uncle went back along with his two boys in their 45+ age and all three finished their Masters in Business . You are never too old to learn. Good luck and be humble!

Is it too late to go to college at 21?

Absolutely not ! :) When I was a teen, I had the pleasure of meeting a globally respected physician, within his area of course… and he went to medical school at 35, at that time him been 20 years older I thought, wow that was old to start med school, as the path we are expected to follow is graduate high school, go to tech school or college and start a job before we turn 23…Myself personally, have had some starts and stops as have other colleagues of mine, but that did not stop us from constantly reassessing ourselves, where we wanted to go, what we wanted to achieve and contribute and then plan a course of action to get there…the key is taking stock of where you are now and what you want to achieve in life…not where you see yourself at 30 or 35 but maybe in segments, next 5, the following 5–10 and then the rest of your years. Some folks pursue a degree and end up in a career that has nothing to do with that they studied at Uni. At 23 you’ve had some time to reflect, experience life a little, work, observe and probably see what can or cannot work for you, that you may not have had a perspective on at say 17 or 18…Today, people are living well into their 80’s, my great uncle a retired neurosurgeon is in his 80s and still actively engaged in his profession and his community outside of work…and he did not start his career as a neurosurgeon :)Hope this helps :)

Is 28 too late to start college?

When I graduated high school, I was so worn out with the everyday drag of ringing bells, lugging my books around from room to room, and listening to someone drone on and on about Shakespeare or politics that I told myself I didn't want to see the inside of a classroom as I lived.

I was able to land a job as a bank employee, and I remained with the same employer ever since then for the past 10 years--I was pretty satisfied with the work and the compensation. My dad pestered me constantly to get into college, but I always said, "What do I need that BS for? I got a 9 dollar an hour job I've had for the past 5 years where I'm best friends with just about everyone there, I just got promoted, I have plenty of money on the side, I can pay my rent and my bills--I got it made!"

Well, now after 10 years, a larger corporation bought out the bank and transferred their own employees....officially putting all of us out of work. That's when I've made the horrible discovery that just about every employer wants someone with a degree, and that nobody seems to give a damn that I held a bank job for 10 years. Now I've been reduced to stocking shelves in a supermarket.

Is it too late to go to college so I can do something respectable, or are people still going to pass me up and ask why did it take me into my 30s to get a degree? I honestly thought by working that I was doing something constructive with my life...but now I understand that I was wrong. Is it too late to correct my mistake?

Is 21 too late to start college?

I was going through family drama and gave up on highschool because of drama. I liked school but I was depressed. Now im back in school trying to get my diploma .. i will start college at 21... i regret this so bad.... :( i dont want to be the college joke being the same age as juniors....

Is it too late to back out of college?

I've been accepted and everything is in order. Most of the financial stuff is figured out, with the loans and everything. It's for video game art and design, but I don't know if that's a good option anymore. The degree is around $80,000 all together. I want to do this, but I'm not sure how this will play out in my future.

I don't know, I just think I might need to chose something more practical. This is so limited. If I show a future employer, outside of the video game realm, a degree for video game art and design, I would probably be laughed at.

My thoughts are everywhere. What else would I go to school for? I'm freaking out.

Anyway, to the point. Is it too late to back out now? They go by quarters, and I don't start until July. Is it even a good idea to back out.

Is it too late to get back to college at 26?

A lot of people have covered the practical aspects of getting back to college at a particular age. Please read all those useful responses first. Our priorities change drastically and it is worth looking at. Very realistic advice that is worth reflecting on.Still, I’d like to offer a different take: I think one should go back to university if they feel uninspired, unchallenged and flat in their lives. At some point, we all feel this way as we age. Like something is really missing. If we’re tired of doing things the same old way and want to take a new approach. Yes, finding better job opportunities or getting a promotion is absolutely vital for success. But often we fall into a cynical, mindless rut or settle for a dull, boring routine when it comes to our lives at this age. We can’t get out of it because we don’t have the “tools” to think differently. That’s when we become truly become ‘old’. I felt this way about my work for several years. A lot of people kept bringing up the aspect of how things are changing in the workplace too.But a good university course at UoPeople helped me look at it in a new, imaginative way. Gave me a new set of tools and ideas to work on too. I think age matters little if your mind remains active and nimble and you are open and positive-minded. If you are willing to try new things (opportunities that online learning offers) despite being “old”. If you are willing to take a few risks after considering the practicalities. If you are not afraid to fail. If you are willing to look like a fool just in case you fail again. Because people will laugh, mock and belittle you, given the chance. Most people think it’s a waste of time at this age too. Honestly, if you have this attitude, then you’re definitely not old. Neither is it too late either. You’ve just understood the importance of adapting to the changing times we live in. Instead of sitting back and doing nothing about it.Still, someone that I work with gave me the best advice that I’ve followed all these years: what does your ‘gut’ tell you? I would like to pass on that piece of advice to all of you today. Ignore everyone and just listen to your gut. As irrational and impulsive as that is, it will never lead you astray.

Is 30 years old too late to start college?

I asked the same question once. I wanted to go back to school but said to a friend, "I'm 37 now. If I go back to school now, by the time I graduate in 4 years, I'll be 41."
His reply was "If you don't go back to school, you'll still be 41 in 4 years."
Point being, yes, go. It's never to late to improve yourself, to follow a dream, to be who you are meant to be.

Is 21 too late to start college?

Of course not. It's never too late. I know tons of people who didn't go to college/university right away, or decided to go back for something different. It's better to go now than down the road when you may have kids and make thing more difficult. Good luck!
