How do I learn english by watching english news channels?

Watch TV Online and Read the Newspaper at your Learning Level. If you know a lot of English, you may be ready to read the The Wall Street Journal or to watch videos from CBS News. If you are a beginner, no problem: you can watch and read the news online at a level that works for you, then go to more difficult stories at your own speed. The New York Times has a weekly column on its Learning Network just for American English language learners. The stories are written in a way you can understand. After you read, take the quizzes on punctuation and word choices. BBC offers a daily program Words in the News for British English fans. Commentators (the people who read the news) list important words then read a story that includes those words. The words can be tough (difficult), though. Don’t be surprised if you need to review the words in the quiz that comes with the program. Voice of America creates two levels of news for English learners on its web site. You can listen to English podcasts or videos and read along with the text. The VOA Learning English Channel includes subtitles (the words at the bottom of the screen) and the commentators speak slowly and clearly, at about a third slower than regular broadcast. That gives beginning learners a chance to keep up. Plus, listening online means you can hit the pause button and read the subtitles at your own rate.

Can I improve my communication skills through reading novels?

There are two points in your question, what I understood.1. Whether reading a novel is effective in improving your English and 2. How much effective it is to read a novel to improve your English?Dear friend, I agreed to what others had said, i.e. that it definitely helps you in improving your English (I, myself have read so many novels and the count is more then 200), but reading a novel to improve your English has its limitations. Reading a novel definitely improves your vocabulary, sentence formation, using different phrases and idioms etc but the novel is limited to a particular story/ theme and the Author's imagination (a single person, in most of the cases). So, the scope of your improvement is, also, limited to that particular story/ theme and to that particular Author's imagination, vocabulary, thinking, style and interests.Whereas, if you read an English newspaper, watch a TV program in English, interact with others in English, then there are stories, themes, news, topics etc. by so many Authors, who would not share same imagination, vocabulary, thinking, style and interests. So, it widens your ambit of learning. Moreover, watching a TV program in English improves your pronunciation, vocabulary, sentence formation, using different phrases idioms and general knowledge.Regarding the most important aspect, thinking in English (and not translating from your mother tongue to English), it is a scientifically proven and commonly practiced method to learn a language or improve one's grasp over a language.I hope this satisfy your query, otherwise it means that I have not understood your question properlyWhen you talk, you are only repeating what you already know. But if you listen, you may learn something new!

Need to improve my communication skills fluently (both english and filipino)?

Speech power, john robert powers, toast masters - these can help improve your grammar, your confidence, your sentence construction.

Read a lot. Be it a magazine of your choice or a book category you enjoy, even news. You can do the same with filipino - listen to AM radio, watch Filipino tv series, read Filipino books on topics that interest you.

It won't hurt to revisit you grammar books too. If you took for granted your filipino teacher and english teacher back in school, now is a good time to self impose some remedial review and self study.

If reading makes you fall asleep, download language podcasts and plug in your favorite earphones wherever you go.

Do not rely on social media as many misspell their words, abbreviate incorrectly, commit bloody grammatical errors, and even coin their own words.

Get a friend who speaks eloquently. Practice what you learn and let your friend give correction and constructive criticism to help you improve.

When there's a will, there are many ways!

Is reading newspapers good for improving English?

Yes and no.I can share my own experience with you.I was learning English myself long time ago. There was no YouTube or podcasts at that time. But there was plenty to read online. So, I started to read NY Times, LA Times, British newspapers almost daily.Yes, it did help me to some extent to improve my vocabulary. But there are two reasons to keep reading in moderation:(1) You need to start speaking, understanding and writing English. Reading does not help you. In fact, it drives you into belief that you will never start speaking. If you only read, and don't communicate.(2) They use a lot of slang and specific terminology in newspaper articles. If you focus on translating every single word, it is not the time well-spent, because you won't see these words in daily conversations or e-mails.So, again, yes and no. Read a lot to improve your vocabulary. But don't focus on reading only, because it is not the same as communication.
