Is It Okay If I Wear A Hammer And Sickle Badge On My Hat

Would it be bad to wear a soviet Ushanka (hammer and sickle and all) in Berlin?

Actually NO, especially not in Berlin.
Because the hammer and sickle symbol is often seen by the vast majority of turkish people and is quite common nowadays.
Like in the south of berlin in the districts Kreuzberg and Neukölln, which is locally called Little Turkey.

As long as you dont wear the Swastika openly in public, just go for your emblem.

Would it Be offensive to wear a ushunka with a hammer and sickle on it?

No, Americans won't be offended. Those you encounter will just think you're a dork with that big fluffy Russian hat on, really nerd-like.

Wearing a hat with hammer and sickle in Russia, Latvia or Estonia?

In Latvia and Estonia if I'm not mistaken it is a crime. They consider symbols of USSR on the same level as Nazis symbols.
In Russia you will look very silly because NOBODY EVER weared "hammer a sickle" except those who served in police and army of USSR (it was part of uniform). And yes, you will look as "complete moron" and people will laugh at you.
Stereotype about all the Russians wearing hats with hammer a sickle doesn't have anything with reality.

What does the hammer and sickle represent?

The symbol had been created in USSR in 20th when the majority of people were farmers. According to communist ideology, the moving force of history are workers. But the working class was relatively small in Russia at the beginning of the 20th century, therefore communists tried to bring farmers to support the communist ideology. The symbol represents the union between workers and farmers.

Can I wear a ushanka with a Soviet red star badge to school in the United States?

Probably not. Most schools in the US do not allow hats of any kind, and the ushanka would be no exception to the rule, although it wouldn’t be much worse as something like a baseball cap, or something of the sort.If your school does allow hats, I personally think that just an ushanka is fine, and the red star stretches it a bit, but the one above probably would not be allowed, as it features the communist symbol. If the ushanka just has a red star, I’d think it’s fine, since red stars can be related to the soviet union, but not always, just like how swastikas were used in many cultures before the germans adopted it as their symbol. Another thing is you should only wear it during winter or late fall, maybe even early spring, but if it isn’t cold, the school would see it as just for the “shock factor”, not keeping warm, since ushankas are very warm. I hope this answered your question, if you do wear a ushanka, make sure to send a pic. Cheers!

If I was to wear communist insignia in America, what would the reactions be?

Well, I have many items of Soviet memorabilia and publicly display my support for a communist regime (more as a joke but I don’t tell them that). My computer background is Soviet propaganda and I have many coins and pins depicting Soviet symbols.I live in California which is a pretty liberal state so many people support the idea of socialism, so I don’t get many negative reactions, but that’s because I don’t flaunt my support. However, you might get a more negative response in more republican states that despise communism. You may also get some strange looks from people if you are more vocal or explicit with your support. For example is wore the really badass and beautifully made uniform above, you might look to obsessed with communism or if you start plastering your walls with communist propaganda, you might get a similar reaction. But, if you’re subtle about it, you can get away with it most of the time.

Why would someone get a Russian hammer and sickle tattoo?

The whole tattoo craze escapes me. Your question made me ask myself, “why would thousands of people get tattoos of Asian characters whose meanings they couldn’t understand? Who decorates themselves using a language they can neither speak nor write? Do illiterate people get tattoos of English words they can’t read? What about folks with severe aphasia, who can’t even identify written letters? How trusting do you need to be to have something permanently written on your skin when you have to take a near-stranger’s word on the meaning? It makes me wonder how many times these poor people have been scammed in other aspects of their lives. Sort of makes falling for the Nigerian Prince email thing look reasonable, doesn’t it?

Would it be offensive to wear a russian hat (ushanka) which has a hammer and sickle pin badge?

I currently live in Holland (Europe) and I bought a russian hat. Would it be okay to wear it in public or would it be considered offensive or a crime? It has a hammer and sickle pin badge on it but I wear it just because I like the way it looks.
