Is It Possible To Replace The Fans In A Laptop

Is it possible to replace CPU fan?

Yes! Very possible and 100% encouraged. The new fan will come with paste, spatula and everything you need.Make sure you buy the correct fan. Look at your CPU socket type. An Intel socket 2011 will have different fittings to an AMD. I personally think Intels are easier to replace.Take off the old fan and clean off the old paste from the bottom2. Do the same with the old CPU - clean off all old paste (if CPU is new don’t worry about this)3. Add a drop of the paste to the base of the fan and spread very thinly4. Do the same for the CPU - spread very thinly5. Click the new fan into place and that should even out any paste gaps6. Off you go!

Do i need to replace my laptop fan?

I have a Acer Aspire 5749 laptop and the fan is making very loud grinding noises. I've already thoroughly cleaned the fan, there was alot of dust in the way (the air flow is much greater now and the laptop runs cooler) but the fan continues to make this very loud grinding sound. Is it time to replace it?
If so how much am i looking at for a replacement?

How much will it cost to replace the fan in my laptop?

It's a Gateway, I've had it about a year and a half. I turn it on and an error message comes up, so I HAVE to replace it ASAP.

I cant hear the fan running on my laptop, is that possible?

Ok, your first and probably best step would be to contact Dell Support for your laptop. There is always the chance that it could still be under warranty. If not, they my still be willing to give you what they call "Out of Warranty" support (They will help, but will not be sending our parts or a technician with out you paying for it).
What it sounds like to me is that your fan has indeed stopped running, and that is what is shutting down your laptop. It is over heating. The good news is that even if you cannot get help from Dell, this is an easy fix. Go online (a different computer preferably) and find the tear down for your laptop. Then open it up and reseat the connection for the fan. If the fan doesn't work after that, then replace it. It will cost a few bucks, but you will save the $600 that it would cost to have someone open it up and look at it. Most of the times on laptops, the connection just came loose.

How much does it cost to replace a cooling fan for a Windows laptop? Should I buy an external cooling pad instead of replacing an internal fan?

If your lap top is overheating the solution is to clean the air ways and fan blades thoroughly before your make any decision regarding replacing any part. If they are clogged with dirt and animal hair (the usual culprit) no new parts are needed and an external fan will do no good at all.The work needed can be complicated. Google the model of your lap top to find out just what has to be done. There are detailed guides on the web.Take care to keep track of all the screws that are removed. Use something like an ice cube mold to group them. Write notes as you proceed and observe and record the diffrent lengths of screw that at used at specific locations.Be prepared to disconnect ribbon cables. If you have not done this before use a magnifier to look at the latch and understand how it works before applying any force.I have done this work on a family lap top (Dell) that would hardly boot before shutting down. It has a copper heat pipe and the exit window for the cooling air had become completely blocked with a felt of dog hair. The CPU survived but the hard drive was virtually destroyed, readable, but otherwise useless.

Can Best Buy Geek Squad replace my laptop fan in one day?

All I need help with is getting my laptop fan replaced, because it's being kind of faulty.

Before going "Save the money and do it yourself", we can't. It's way too risky to open the laptop that much to go inside.

If we give the laptop to the Geek Squad (we're near a Best Buy), can they fix it really quickly? It doesn't seem like it'd take a long time to replace a laptop fan.
