Is It Possible To Turn On My Computer Remotely

Is it possible to remotely turn on your computer while being away from home?

Indeed it is. Meet the Wake on LAN Protocol. What Is Wake-on-LAN, and How Do I Enable It?

Is it possible for a hacker to turn on my computer remotely?

It's tempting to say "impossible" but I'll settle for "unlikely".As Stephen Punwasi says, Wake-on-LAN  can be used to turn on a computer. According to the Wikipedia article, this feature is on by default in some Macs, and implemented in some routers. It's a LAN protocol, which would imply access to another device on your local network or a misconfigured router. Some server-grade computers have a "lights-out" interface - effectively a separate computer with its own network connection specifically tasked with turning a computer on and off remotely. This often uses Intelligent Platform Management Interface protocol, which has seen security advisories warning sites not to connect this service directly to the internet. It's unlikely that a home PC implements IPMI, though, or that it's on the internet.

Is there a way to remotely turn-on a computer?

For machines that are truly off, then one solution is to look into network-aware interruptible power units.  Many of these have ways to turn connected systems on and off via a variety of means. Many computers and operating systems also support wake-on-LAN functionality.  This basically allows one to wake a computer up from sleep by sending a specialized network packet that the OS will recognize.

Is it possible to remotely shutdown a ps3 from a pc?

How can someone remotely access my computer?

Its not happening. Don't worry. There are two typical facilities which can be used. One is inbuilt into Windows for remote maintenance. You have to authorise this. You see everything the remote user is doing on the screen. You would know if somebody was doing this.Or they may try and log on through a VPN. You have to go through some hoops to make this happen, they still need a password. You couldn't possibly enable this by accident. And almost all home versions of Windows can have only one logged on user, if somebody else logs on your screen goes black and your mouse and keyboard won't work. And I am sure you would notice that.It just doesn't happen that much in practice, and you would have to be wilfully stupid to go to the trouble of disabling all the security protocols which prevent unauthorized people from logging on to your computer.

Can hackers really "blow up" computers remotely like they do on TV?

If you mean like in Mr Robot, those where anti tampering devices attached to the usb and HD.They are designed to explode in case someone does something unexpected like connect an external usb device or press the fake power button. Not something you can buy from your local IT shop but fairly simple from a hardware perspective. If you just mean remotely destroy some random PC then not so much.As one of the other dudes mentioned you could remotely overclock or turn of the fans and that may damage the ram or processor but its going to do little to the hd or network stored data. But the mb would need to be capable of such functions.

Is there a way to remotely turn on and off WiFi at home from another location?

I'd like to be able to turn WIFI either on or off at home via iPhone App or some other method at work. When my kids finish homework, I'll turn on the WIFI. Until then, it remains off.

My only thought is to use a IP controlled switch to physically cut the power to a WIFI router.

Any suggestions on how I may be able to control the router remotely? Thanks.
