Is It Possible To Work 20 Hrs A Week For $20/hr And Support Myself In My Own Place In Portland Or

I was a software engineer at Amazon for 18 months. I wouldn't say it was an unpleasant place to work by any means. For the most part, my coworkers were very smart and easy to get along with. The offices were in a good location and I had a nice view of Lake Union from my desk. My work included a number of interesting technical challenges, I learned a lot of things while I was there, and I felt my compensation was more than fair. That said, Amazon does have a lot of employee turnover. The reason is not so much that Amazon is an unpleasant place, but rather because other employers can be more pleasant in ways that do matter. One aspect of Amazon culture that turns many people off is the constant emphasis on frugality. Amazon doesn't tend to buy lunches for its employees, offer outstanding fully-paid health coverage, match charitable contributions, invest in top-of-the-line workstations for developers to use, or other expensive things that other top employers are known to do. This focus on frugality has helped keep prices low, which in turn has allowed Amazon to grow to the impressive size it is today.  The downside is that it's hard for any company to hire and retain top employees when other companies are willing to offer a bunch of attractive fringe benefits in addition to being competitive salary-wise.I eventually left mainly because I came to realize that I had very little passion for e-commerce. That, and the pager duty got on my nerves. Even though I was only on call one week out of five, and even though getting paged wasn't an everyday occurrence while on call, I grew tired of needing to schedule my life in such a way that I would always be available to respond to a high-priority event if necessary. When my current employer offered me a job in a subject matter area that interested me more, where I would not be required to carry a pager, I didn't really hesitate to make the switch.I'll certainly consider Amazon the next time I look for a job. Like I said, it wasn't an unpleasant place to work overall. Certain divisions (such as Amazon Web Services) are working on things that would interest me much more than maintaining a retail website proved to be. However, it might not be the first place I decide to apply.

TLDR: Sure it is.Long story: Background first, I'm a 23 year old single female.A few months ago, two of my best friends, a guy (A) and a girl (B) came over to my place. We were casually chilling around, when another friend (C) , who is B's boyfriend, calls up, asking to go out for a couple of drinks. We were too lazy to leave the place, so we asked him to get some booze and we could drink at my place itself. We all had a few drinks. We were all tipsy, but not completely drunk. I soon started to feel sleepy, as the alcohol started to hit. I would frequently get up and walk to the kitchen to get snacks/ice/Coke etc. My friends would ask me to not do so, as by this time I was loosing my balance and they were worried I'd fall down and hurt myself. After the 6th or 7th drink, I got up to go to my room and lie down/sleep.I walked up to the room, went near the bed, and crashed right onto it. I was too damn drowsy and just wanted to lie down. My friend A, thought I had fallen down (as crashing on the bed made a loud noise) and hurt myself, so he came in to check on me. He asked me if I was fine. I said I was. He hugged me and gave me kiss on my cheek, asking me to be careful. I kept lying on the bed.He gave me a little peck on my lips. Then paused. Then asked, “Does this feel okay?”. I said yes. He kissed me again. I kissed him back. We hugged. He then asked, “Do I have your consent?”. I said yes. We proceeded to make out. Both of us had drinks, but both were completely aware of what we were doing. We soon fell asleep. When we woke up, we made out again. This time completely in our senses. We never had sex. We later decided it was just something we both need as we were looking for a non-emotionally-taxing relationship. We are still the best friends and still talk and hang out like we always did. It doesn't feel wrong or awkward in any way.

"At age 5 his Father died," begins the story. "At age 16 he quit school. At age 17 he had already lost four jobs. At age 18 he got married. He joined the army and washed out there. At age 20 his wife left him and took their baby. He became a cook in a small cafe and convinced his wife to return home. At age 65 he retired. He felt like a failure & decided to commit suicide. He sat writing his will, but instead, he wrote what he would have accomplished with his life & thought about how good of a cook he was. So he borrowed $87 fried up some chicken using his recipe, went door to door to sell. At age 88 Colonel Sanders, founder of Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) Empire was a billionaire."Ok, very few of us are going to become a Fried Chicken Empire Billionaire.People your age are going back to school all the time, whether it be trade school, community college or college. If you’ve had huge periods of unemployment, it will be difficult to get into a professional career, those big gaps look bad in a resume. Not impossible, but you’re probably gonna have to start at entry level and likely as likely as to be hired as a younger guy.But learning a skilled trade or community college trade, may be an easier path to get a good enough job and career to live comfortably on your own.

I was assigned to a business trip that I did not feel excited about. You know, one of the long hours of meetings with moderated brainstorming sessions. Nonetheless, I packed my bags and went with realistic expectations. The journey to the capital of Finland itself was taxing. Matilda sat beside me along with her mother. The eight month young lady was my company during the flight. Indeed, sitting next to a bubbly baby was physically and mentally demanding! I did not sleep throughout the 13 hours night flight to Amsterdam (layover) and ended up babysitting the toddler-sized alarm clock. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯Memories of what happened during the layover in Amsterdam was hazy but I got onto the next plane safely (no weeds involved, I promise!). Although I was so dazed, I do remember one thing clearly; the taste of the flight’s bleh pasta! Arriving in the Scandinavian country, my zombie-being was greeted by swoofing cold winds which kept me awake until I arrived at the place I’ve rented for the week. Frankly, I did not expect it to be that cold! This is going to be an awfully challenging week! I thought to myself. I chose to stay in an apartment to experience it like a local. To my amazement, Helsinki has surprised me in many good ways! I loved it! I loved everything about the stay and enjoyed the week very much! Finnish are friendly people (except you, the girl at the market who sells souvenirs). The weather was relatively nice especially when the sun was out and I enjoyed walking around, exploring the city (without getting drenched in sweat). Great atmosphere, beautiful art galleries, building designs and structures, amenities…and of course, the Stockmann.…also, Karl Fazer! Not forgetting, the fruitful discussion and knowledge sharing session we have had during the conference :D (enlivened by a series of entertainment, Finnish style). It was not so bad after all! However, every good thing has to come to an end and I flew home with a heavy heart.I will have to admit it; I think I have developed a crush on Helsinki.Back to answering the question:I have had an awesome week, thank you for asking! I hope you have enjoyed yours as much as I have enjoyed mine :)

How can i prepare myself to move out of my parent's house?

RE:
how can i prepare myself to move out of my parent's house?
well, i am 21 now and i think it'd be a little easier if i didn't live at home. i pay for everything myself anyway, just not rent and my cellphone. well i don't make much.. $10.50/hour, working no less than 36 hours a week. i did just buy a new car for my bday a few months ago. i'm paying $300/month. basically, i spend about $550-600 a month paying for my credit card, my car, and just doing things with friends on the weekends. i live in NEBRASKA right now. apparently the cost of living here isn't as high as many other states, but i know i'll probably struggle. just wondering if this is the right decision. i haven't quite looked into moving out yet because i had so many questions. can anybody give me a little bit of advice before i make a decision? i don't plan on going back to school, and i probably won't work at my current job for the rest of my life, considering i'm a hostess. i'll more than likely get a roommate since living on my OWN right now will probably be impossible. i don't want to end up running back home to mommy and daddy in the next year. anyway, my detailing was probably a bit vague, but if you could just give me a slight bit of advice and what you did and how much you had saved up before moving out, that would be great. oh and about how much you spend a month on bills. i'm sure i'll be throwing away over $1000 a month once i move out....

My girlfriend is SOOOOO LAZY! What do I do? I obviously cannot fix her.?

I'm getting married to her in less than a month, but I don't know why other than I love her and that we've been together for almost a decade and have a 7 month old and a 5 year old together.

She barely works - like 20 hours a week right now and it just so happens to be on the weekends when I'm off so I'm stuck with the kids! She says it's so we don't have to pay for child until September. She seriously used up ALL of her vacation time just so that we don't have to pay for childcare. Then she expects me to take off during the week if I want to hang out as a family which just blows my mind? She's the one who chose to user her vacation during the week in the first place.

Anyway, she's really lazy. The house is often cluttered. I admit she's gotten better about cleaning over the years, but I always see work that needs to be done that she is NOT doing!! She goes and hangs out with her mom twice a week with the kids during the week to make some extra money driving her to doctors appointments. Her mom has a traumatic brain injury so she can't drive but she could pay someone ELSE! Her mom lives 45 minutes away!!!

I get that she's in college, too, but she seriously needs to make sure the house is taken care of inside by all means possible. I do the yard work, I fix up my cars, and I work 40 hours a week unlike her.

Did I mention that she is in softball on wednesday nights and works on monday, tuesday and friday nights too? I get no time to myself ever. She is off m-f this summer
