Is It Safe To Use Front Line On My Dog Now Since I Used Another Brand 2 Weeks Ago And He Still Has

Frontline wont work!?

There are two types of Frontline products - Frontline and Frontline Plus. Frontline Plus is better and more effective as many times regular Frontline does not kill all of the fleas, perhaps due to resistance. Frontline Plus has additional active ingredients in it so you should use Frontline Plus, if you aren't already. This should be enough even for a severe infestation as it disrupts the life cycle of fleas so they all eventually die off unless new fleas are introduced from outside.

Also, make sure you keep your home vacuumed (carpets, baseboards, couches, chairs, etc.) and get rid of the vacuum bags and trash right away - remove them from the home. If you don't, then the fleas will reproduce in your vacuum cleaner and infest your pet. Vacuuming helps keep the number of fleas down.

You should also treat your cat because even though you may not see any fleas on your cat, they are probably still biting it. Those fleas that bite your cat and are not treated will continue to reproduce in your home.

If you think your pet may be bringing lots of fleas inside from outside due to alot of other dogs and cats in your apartment complex, then you might ask the landlord about treating the lawn with a pesticide or spraying the area where you usually take him to relieve himself. I lived in a apartment with lots of pets and had trouble getting rid of fleas too and so I also sprayed my section of the yard (with something not harmful to animals) and that seemed to help.

Here is a site that gives a great overview of all types of flea, tick and heartworm products on the market, if you'd like to know more...

Can you use frontline and a flea collar at the same time?

Never, ever use a flea collar. They can kill your pet without even adding the frontline to the equation. The poison on them is deadly.

Why does she have such a flea problem? Is she living inside the house or outside? If she is living inside the house, the problem isn't just her. When you frontline her, you have to steam your carpets and your furniture the same day to kill any fleas and eggs that are lurking in them. You will need to wash his bedding as well.

I buy a product called Neem Protect Spray by Ark Naturals and that is all I ever have to use on the dogs now. I have hardwood floors, though. I steam the furniture every three months because I cover them with throw blankets that are easy to wash in the meantime.

Are you sure that it's fleas and not allergies? One of our dogs has very, very bad allergies so she scratches like crazy in the spring and summer. Are you actually seeing the fleas?

If you google flea collars, you will find a lot of information out there. They are literally soaked in chemical pesticides. Plus, the fleas just have to leave the neck area and they are safe.

Does Frontline Plus for dogs expire??

Fronline and Advantix both have an expiration date. The dates on the box as with most products err on the safe side. If your just talking about flea and tick control then it will either work or not work. If it fails you can reapply in 3 weeks. Sometimes it is not the age that is the reason it fails. Some areas build up resistance to certain products. If you are counting on your Frontline to prevent tick bites and lymes disease then you should not, not even with unexpired Frontline. Always give heartworm preventative. This is the safest. One more note of caution....you can order many products such as Frontline online and have it delivered to your door. It is cheaper this way but no vet really recommends it. Why? It comes from other countries where the product age and manufacture are unregulated. You may be purchashing out of date or a sub quality product. For best results always buy from a veterinarian and check dates. Also in the case of heartwork medicine, you get a guarantee from the manufacture if you purchase from a vet. If you buy it online and your dog contracts heartworm disease you will not be refunded nor will your pets care be paid for by the manufacturer. I have worked in this business for years and have seen it all. Good luck and hope this helps.

Used Frontline Plus and my cat still has fleas. Can I use more?

I used Frontline recently and it didn't work. I asked various local animal experts for advice and some said that I obviously hadn't used it correctly, whereas others said that some fleas are becoming resistant to it - funnily enough the ones who said I hadn't used it correctly were all people who sell Frontline...

I've been a cat owner for many years and have used Frontline and many other spot treatments successfully, so I just didn't buy that ' I had used it incorrectly'. I did a search and found that a lot of other people seem to be having the same problem and are saying that Frontline no longer works.

I consulted a local vet (one who doesn't sell Frontline) who sold me some Advantage. A few hours later we had less fleas, 3 days later we had no fleas.

Of course, what everyone is saying about treating the carpets, soft furnishings and bedding is true, whichever treatment you use - you have to get rid of the eggs and larvae to break the cycle, otherwise you're only going to kill the adults and will have a whole new infestation before long

Why would one dog have fleas but not the other three dogs ?

WE have a professional yard spray regularly, use Front-line, and every week or so, also use a dog bath for fleas. WE have 3 Miniature Pinschers inside the house mostly and one 6 month old pug/chihuahua mixed living inside mostly exactly the same. The Pinschers almost never have fleas, only on rare occasion one or two, but the little pug/chihuahua is always just full of fleas. WE pick them off him all the time because we can't bath him every day or two with a flea shampoo nor can we use Frontline more than once a month or those strong medications will make him sick. We have never had this experience with any of out other dogs - not ever - and we are mystified about how and why he is the only one to always have fleas. We also have a Cocker Spaniel, another Pinscher, another mixed dog ? Miniature Husky ?, and a Chihuahua who mostly live outside during the day. They are free of fleas for the most part all the time with the exception of the Chihuahua. Is there something we don't know about this kind of dog ? We have had pets for all our lives, decades, and never experienced anything like this.
All our dogs go out to play in the same yard and sleep in the same baskets with pillows in them and swap beds when they feel like it also. We launder the pillows and blankets used for beds often and use a disinfectent. If you do know anything about such a situation, I'd appreciate very much knowing. This is frustrating for us and our best efforts to keep fleas off the 6 month old pug/chi just haven't been working. Oh, and we have just put a flea collar on him also but I'm not comfortable with our dogs wearing them. I have visions of them chewing on the collars or on each other's collars and I just think maybe that 's too much constant medication.
We do live in the south so fleas and ticks populations are never controlled by a winer freeze because we never have them but as I said, we have a yard spray and that has worked for our other dogs and in the past.
I hope somebody knows something that can help us with this one.

Is it bad to apply frontline plus twice within one month?

No, it won't harm him, but it wasn't necessary. Just because you found a flea it doesn't mean he isn't protected. When you first apply Frontline, it immediately starts killing the adults and prevents eggs and larvae from maturing. The pupae, however, are resistant to the drug, so when they start hatching (usually takes 3-5 days) the new adults will hop right back onto your dog. That is probably what you were seeing. Still, he would have fallen off dead soon enough. If you want to be sure your dog is protected, apply another dose in a month.

One thing I want to caution you on is flea baths. The chemicals used in flea shampoos kills fleas, but there is an increased risk of toxicity. Just stick with Frontline and things should be fine.

**In response to kelkel8813: The chemicals used in Hartz and other "Walmart" brands as I call them ARE toxic (Pyrethrin and Permethrin). Stay away from those because even recommended doses of the drug can have deadly effects. So in that respect, you are correct. Fipronil however, which is used in Frontline and Frontline Plus, is one of the safest drugs out there and HAS been proven safe in large quantities. Also, foggers and bombs are the worst way to go. Not only is it toxic to you and your pet, but why treat the environment when the flea wants to be on your dog? They don't want to be on your couch. I've answered too many phone calls from clients calling in because they overdid it.

Like my dear friend Cyndi Perlman Fink, I would never let my dog relieve herself without bagging it out. This happened with irresponsible pet owners on my front yard and I wanted to figure out a way to make it stop.I used a two-prong approach: one for the dogs and one for the humans. For the dogs it was cayenne and white pepper, finely ground (photos from Cayenne Pepper - The Healthy Life Company and 25 Amazing Benefits Of White Pepper (Safed Mirch) Powder For Skin, Hair, And Health):For the humans it was diatomaceous earth (photo from diatomaceous.org):Used sparingly, dogs would usually avoid the sections where these organic options were sprinkled. Owners that watched their pets saw that there was some kind of powder on the ground and plants and usually pulled their pets away.If I see a dog using the front yard, I check out the owner and give a friendly nod. I want to make sure they pick up after their pet. Sometimes I’m still left with a gift, though. If your neighbors aren’t open to reason, all you can do is address the problem on your end. Sometimes you need to draw your line in the sand without being taken advantage of, or having the poor dogs put in a fight they don’t know about.

Stopping ticks on dogs?

i want to use a repellent because the tick problem on my dog keeps getting worse. i found 3 deer tick on him last week and today i found 5 ticks on the ceiling. i think they laid eggs in the ceiling light. my dogs get the vectra-3d tick medicine each month which kills off ticks in 6-8 hours. but they're still getting all over the house..so is there something more i can do? like if i immediately put him in the tub and just use plain water (since you can't shampoo a dog every day) would that help any?? or is there any kind of special tick brush or safe repellent? he has long hair and double coat so these ticks might not even be biting his skin but just traveling and that's why his tick medicine isn't killing them.thank you!!(i really hate ticks)
