Is It Wrong To Sell A Rabbit To A Pet Store

What pet store do they sell rabbits?

Try finding a local pet store (PET CO, Pet Smart are good) they usually have them there, ask them to let you see a list of rabbits up for adoption. If this is out of your budget try finding a shelter for rabbits in need of a home, they usually have them already spayed / neutered for you, you don't want to end up taking care of 10 rabbits when you were only looking to buy 1. Another thing, buy one that's at least 8 weeks old, even if younger ones look cuter, they are easier to become sick due to intestinal problems because of the lack of mother's milk as they were developing their antibodies. Hope to be at help and good luck! If you get one I would like to see a picture of it to share with my bunny wunny, Thumper 3 months old = D.

Selling Rabbits to Pet Store?

What type of Rabbits are they? If they are not anything extraordinary the Pet Store probably won't want them

Here is what I would do:

Take one or two of the prettiest bunnies to any good pet store in the area and show the bunnies to the owner and say:

Would you be interested in buying 2 bunnies?

Then if he says yes you say I have 6 others.

HERE IS THE KEY:

When you Breed Rabbits you always want to get a Breed of Rabbits with excellent markings such as "Black Dutch; Blue Dutch; Grey Dutch or Brown Dutch.

These Rabbits are great looking; a special breed and will sell faster than the others.

If worse comes to worse and you do not know what to do with them...(do not ever bring rabbits to an animals sheleter) instead

Take the rabbits (not yours; I mean anyone who has rabbits they cannot care for)

take them to a rural area with a field and some woods and

Let them go.

Never bring animals to animal shelters tho'.

So if you Breed The Dutch family of Rabbits you will sell them quicker. good luck

How do i sell my rabbit to a pet store or other place where it can be taken care of?

For the best answers, search on this site https://shorturl.im/aw2xg

Why are you selling these rabbits? Did you breed them? If so, you should take it upon yourself to fine a responsible home for each of them. Pet stores do not take good care of rabbits. Put some ads in the newspaper and different places. Ask the people questions about rabbits. I do not understand. You breed rabbits and then send them to pet stores???? That is very irresponsible. Stop breeding and find proper homes for those rabbits. They don't deserve that. If you can't find good homes for them, take them to a no-kill animal shelter. The people at the shelter will find a good home for them. Never release rabbits into the wild. Would you do this with puppies? Rabbits are domesticated (unless they are wild.) They depend on people to care for them. Same with dogs. If you wouldn't do this to a puppy, don't do it to your rabbits. Sorry if that seemed harsh. That wasn't my intention. I just want good homes to be found for those bunnies! :)

Can i sell my pet rabbit?

There may be ways to solve this problem without selling your rabbit. After all, he is your responsibility as you decided to bring him home.

Is s/he litterbox trained? Both of my rabbits are litterbox trained and I change their litter every 2-3 days, so they almost never smell. you can read more about how to litterbox train your rabbit here: http://www.rabbit.org/faq/sections/litter.html

Is your rabbit fixed? A rabbit who isn't fixed may be harder to litterbox train, but can still learn. I definitely recommend looking into getting your rabbit spayed or neutered, as it will reduce his/her chances of developing cancer, and will tone town a lot of the undesirable behaviors in rabbits, such as marking, chewing, digging, and aggression.

Besides vet bills, rabbits aren't *that* expensive to maintain. Timothy pellets may honestly be the next most expensive thing, but you aren't supposed to feed too much at a time anyway... if you're not rationing the pellets properly (1/8-1/4 cup pellets per 5lbs of body weight) you may be going through a bag too fast, which is why the price is wracking up. Rabbits are supposed to be fed unlimited amounts of timothy hay, which you can get in bales for cheap at feed stores. Leafy greens and veggies should also be fed daily (1 cup per 5lbs) and produce can be very inexpensive to acquire as well, look for farmer's markets or grow your own.

Toy can cost almost nothing because rabbits will gratefully play with cardboard tubes, cardboard boxes, old phone books, $0.99 plastic cat toys, ect.

I'm sure with some of the suggestions above you can make things work out for you and your rabbit. With the crazy amount of homeless rabbits we have, it's really important that rabbit owners stick to their commitments to their rabbit. Don't dump your problems, try to solve them. I'm sure things will work out. Good luck!

Buying a rabbit at a pet store?

You should stay away from pet stores. Go to a breeder or a rescue centre where you care more likely to get a healthier rabbit.
with experience in this area, rabbits are more stressed in stores than from rescues or breeders and in alot of stores are not fed the right or a good quality diet (with exception of the store i use to work in as a consultant where the rabbits had the best, at the stores cost) Stress along with a bad diet low in fibre, means they are more likely to get Mucoid Enteritis which can be fatal, which is probalby what the rabbit you bought died of.
Another factor is pet shop rabbits a re to often bought intothe shop too young. I would not buy a rabbit under 10 weeks of age as they do have more problems adjusting to the different enviroments when carted around from breeder to shop then from shop to home/Also ex breeder rabbits that have been reject by the breeder for their looks come into some stores and end up with mallocolusion of the teeth because they have been produced by messing around with genetics.
With breeders you can see the qualilty of the stock and with rescues all rabbits have vetrinary checks and are more likely to be spayed./neutered if mature

Buying a rabbit from the pet store???

Petstores do not for the most part sell rabbits with pedigrees. That is because a reputable breeder will not sell their stock to a petstore. Even if it does come with a pedigree you have no proof that is is a true pedigree. it could be completely false and made up.

If you want a specific breed then your best bet is to find a breeder. If you just want a pet then buy one from a petstore. But be prepared for health and attitude problems.

You can also find a lionhead breeder on the internet and find out if they will ship a rabbit to you. Many breeders do this, it costs more, but if you really want this breed you may be willing to pay it.

You could also contact the local animal shelter and ask them to keep your name on file if a rabbit comes in that fits the description of what you want.

Some things are worth waiting for. It may take awhile to find a lionhead, but if that is what you want it will be worth it in the end.

**EDIT**--To Polorqueen- All breeds of rabbits were from different breeds being crossbred. The lionhead breed is a breed that started in Britian. Some of that stock has been imported to the US. Breeders in the US are trying to improve the breed and get it recognized by ARBA. Some of the original stock has been bred to other breeds to improve the quality of the rabbit.

i wouldnt get a rabbit from a pet store as they have stupid prices i would get mine from a breeder and make sure there eyes are clear no discharge or there not sneesing or anythink like that and make shure u see the both peronts and that there all in good condition and healthy

First problem, you are buying from a pet store. Not a great idea go with a reputable breeder if you are looking for a show cat complete with pedigree etc. or go to the shelter and rescue a homeless cat if you are just getting a pet.Second, you can't tell the difference between a male and a female? Sounds like you didn't examine your purchase too closely.Third, (already mentioned) Seeing that as a responsible pet owner you were going to spay the two sisters anyway you are actually saving money. Are you going to return that saving to the pet store? No? I thought not.Good luck to the kitties in their new home.

Is it wrong to sell pet rabbits as food? i need advise!?

maybe one rescue will take a few, then another will take a few. You dont have to give them ALL to ONE rescue. Try several. Put a few in a box and leave them at a vet's doorstep (like 30 minutes before they open). But go somewhere where you can see/know that they were found. Put an ad in the newspaper for free PET rabbits. As soon as the babies are weaned, you need to separate the males from the females so they dont breed. You can find homes for them, you just have to be determined and it may be alot of work, but its your responsibility and your duty. To sell them for reptile food is cruel. They feed them alive to the reptile. Yes, I know reptiles have to eat too, but I refuse to ever be a part of it. I could never eat a rabbit I had as a pet, nor could I sell them for food. This is not their fault, it is your fault. They didnt ask for this, its their nature to breed, its your responsibility to prevent it. It takes maturity and responsibility to raise rabbits and you obviously dont know enough about it to do it. Please find them a home and stop now. you have created a problem, now the innocent animals have to pay the price, which is sad. I dont mean to sound mean, but if you dont know what you are doing then you shouldnt have a pet that you dont have the knowledge to take care of. Now, place an ad in the newspaper, cage them up and go sit in front of walmart or another large-chain store with a sign that reads "free pet rabbits to good home", call around and do whatever you have to do to find them a home. Dont make them pay for your mistake. If you are a child/teenager, then its also your parents' fault this has happened because they should have been supervising... so they need to help you find them a home. If you already "accidently" placed a male in with females, how are you going to KNOW that the 5 you get to keep are in fact all girls. This may end up happening again if you make sure all are the same gender.

Is it safe to buy a rabbit from a pet store?

Safe? Well, chances are no one's going to maul you coming out of the store...

But unless you really know what you're looking for, there could be a lot of issues. A lot of pet stores like to sell rabbits very young-around four or five weeks-when they should still be with their mothers and littermates. Sometimes it is okay to wean them at that age, but weaning them young then stressing them by moving them to a store where they are housed with other rabbits from who-knows-where, switching their food, then moving them again to a new home is a lot of stress on a rabbit that young. And when they get stressed, they are more prone to get ill, and when a five week old rabbit gets sick, it's chances of survival are a fairly slim.

A better option would be to find a local breeder. If you want to start the search you can go here: http://www.arba.net/Breeds.htm and see which breeds you like. Clicking on the picture will take you to that breed club's website if they have one, where you can learn more and hopefully find a breeder in your area.

Adopting from a shelter or rescue is another option, but other posters have covered that.
