Is a salary of 100k good enough to live in california and be able to lead a good life or is it average?

its actually not easy with 2500 until and unless u r provided with a company's accommodation. if u r not then its going to be lil tuff. and if u r earning for urself the also its kinda fine and if u have to send some amount to home then definitely its going to b pretty tuff. and if u r renting the home on sharing basis (with 2-3 boys and location) max 1000 dhms u need to have. then ur food, conveyance (bus service sucks out here especially for males) taxis are expensive. traffic is the biggest issue u need to start up quiet early from home it depends where is ur residence and where is ur employer. (150 dhms for conveyance) ur food if u r going to eat out so minimum one meal will cost you 10-12 dhms n maximum dont ask. so take it atleast 400 dhms per month ur food will cost if u r having outside, grocery items are also not much expensive but still its DUBAI. then u have to send some amount at home then save for urself not for GFs but yes Driving License (if ur company is providing u with a car) cos if u have ur own conveyance u r very much at ease and mobile but that ways also Salik's will kill ur pocket. and DL is not that easy to get its the hardest nut to break being in Dubai so u better b prepared for hard days. and incase still u try to give it a shot give it but ask ur company to give an accomodation. but this is actually DUBAI is all about. u wont find much difference then India. and do come with lots of sunscreen lotion and a good shade also an umbrella the summer is like......... no words to describe. But theses are the days u can cherish. I am also struggling I have been in Dubai from past 4 months so the things are pretty tough especially for boys but still manageable. ANd if its 3,500 its going to be fine. and this is what the experience is. I have to walk for half an hour to get the bus through sand and evrythng then in the evening get off by 7 then walk for 15 minutes to bus station. then where the bus drops me then again 15-20 minutes and m enjoyng it. anywys what is the post they are taking u for? and how much is ur experience? Last but not the least. U CANT TRUST ANYONE HERE. ppl are here for money and they will betray u at any moment. but still they are practical in their approach so u dont get hurt.

Is $80,000 a year good enough for a single person in San Francisco?

yes, but keep in mind that your paycheck will only be about 65% of your salary. the rest goes to taxes/govt.

80K a year should be enough, provided that you don't spend too much. my advice: live like you only make $50K and you'll be fine.

also, jobs here are like a revolving door. do NOT rely on keeping your job, even if you're great at it. a new CEO pops in, and all heads roll. so, always keep that in mind

Is $70,000 enough for a single person to live on in San Francisco or San Jose?

I myself have lived in San Fran and DC and have relatives who live in San Jose. I love San Fran and am currently living there, having grown up in DC (though the economy is better I have gone back to visit my folks) the living cost there and San Fran is about the same. Your dollar might stretch more in San Francisco, though DC is a smaller city, its a much more touristy city. San Jose is probably about the same as San Fran

Is 150000 a good salary for a San Jose resident?

It depends what the expenses are and your definition of "good".

If the expectation is to afford to buy a Bentley, then no.
If the expectation is to afford to buy a $1 million+ home, no.

If you are living within your means, and either have income from elsewhere, living with someone contributing to living expenses or have savings to help with expenses, then it may be "good"... and no credit card or educational debt - and hopefully no car payments...

Yes you can manage:75K/12 = $6.25K pm. 2.5K rent - single bed or studio depending on area0.5K utilities - includes phone1.0k transportation (car + gas + insurance)1.0K Food ($30 per day provides decent food)1.0K entertainment (assuming you are not partying every night)0.25K medical expense (assuming you are healthy)

Rental properties, including newer apartments, are very costly. Figure up to $4000 per month to rent a nice 2 bedroom/2bath apartment in the San Mateo area. Prices will be less for older apartments. The job market is hot so your partner will have little trouble finding a job as a SW engineer, but being car-less will have to change. You can't get to most jobs without a car and since your partner's job could be outside of San Mateo, a car will be necessary unless you live near one of the bus stops for the major companies in the Valley.  Housing costs are high, but your salary is good as long as your partner's salary is somewhat the same.  It's crazy but this is the reality of San Mateo County.

What's life like in California?

California is awesome man.....this state is so huge, if u like snow we got mountains and skiing and snowboarding....if u like trees and forest with even temperature then Northen Cali is great..... of course if your intrested in beaches and high temperatures then SoCal is where its at.

People are much more social out here then on the east coast.....its much integrated not as much bias which might explain why there are more openly gays and interracial relationships......its an easier enviorment to be yourself in.

Food is great if your into Mexican....I used to live on the east coast i know theres a pizza parlor on every corner......here its burritos and tacos.....both are good.

Wherever u decide to go be prepared for one thing.....
TRAFFIC
if u cant stand being in traffic u better get used to it out here or live somewhere with better public transportation like the larger cities like LA, SanDiego or SanFrancisco which i think probably has the best public transportation system next to NYC but much cleaner.

How much can my landlord raise the rent in california?

As others have stated, he can raise it however much he wants, unless you are in a rent-controlled area. He must provide proper notice (30 or 60 days, depending on where you are).

Your choices are to accept or move. This isn't about retaliation; your landlord's costs go up every year, which means your do, too. If this is the first time your rent has increased in 3 years, I would be thanking the landlord. You have probably been costing him money for the last 2 years instead of bringing in a profit. It is ridiculous to think the landlord would need your permission to move into HIS house.

EDIT: Oh, I'm sorry, is your name on the deed? Do you pay the homeowner's insurance? Do you pay the mortgage? No? It is NOT your house just because you pay rent. You are in no way responsible for the place, other than keeping it in the same condition as when you rented it in the first place. You have NO liability, NO responsibility, other than paying rent in full and on time. If you truly think it is "your" house, you should look into buying yourself and stop causing your landlord trouble. He can store whatever he wants on HIS property, and 100% sockets and outlets are not required. If you think you're so responsible, you should fix these yourself.

If you attempt to call the police to have him removed from HIS property, you will not only give the cops a good laugh, but might even be cited for wasting their time. He has every right to be there if he so chooses. You don't.
